Facilities: The school offers a variety of libraries with different environments, so anyone can find the perfect place to study. Between different lectures, movie showings, and events from the hundreds of RSO's, there is something different to do every single day.

Campus Dining: I don't use the dining hall, but there are a ton of restaurants and fast food places on campus - there are places open until 3AM that are reasonably cheap. You won't go hungry here.

Weather: If you've lived in Illinois your whole life, you don't expect good weather.

Local Atmosphere: There isn't much to do except hit the bars - it's a college town.

Campus Housing: There are quite a few choices depending on whether you want to live in an apartment (cheapest), in a fraternity/sorority, in a dorm, or private certified housing (ranges between being like an apartment to more of a dorm).

Drug Safety: We have a drug and safety program that everyone goes through as a freshman that at least makes you aware.

Majors: One of the main reasons I decided to come down to Urbana-Champaign was because of their awesome business school. Their business curriculum is very demanding and also very challenging. It requires a lot of work and interactive thinking, but in the end, as a student you learn a whole lot and I am grateful for it. It is very interesting, and I am planning on graduating with a bachelor of science in acountancy. So far everything has gone great, I love all my classes and my professors are really nice people. It is practically 99% guaranteed for me to get a job with that degree coming from urbana champaign. The other 1% is for the people that do not want a job, that is the only way you won't get one honestly.

Overall Experience: If I was back in senior year and looking down at my 6 school options in which I was admitted to, I would no doubt hands-down choose Urbana Champaign over and over again. I love this school, and it all started in a senior college field trip. I fell in love with it as soon as I stepped foot onto its campus. I love how it far from home so it gave me the opportunity to be independent, and I also love the food and how it is so close to my dorm and how the gym isn't so far either! I love the girls here, and the party scene is just unbelievable. It is really a good time and there is always something to do. From dancing, to bowling, to concerts, to video gaming, to sports, I just love the whole atmosphere here. A city full of 20 year olds all having fun. It is truly a blast and I feel blessed and proud to be part of such a community.

Greek Life: Our greek life is top of the notch. I think that the greeks are very nice people and throw the best of parties. In the public opinion, everybody like a greek, but again it all depends on the person themselves and everyone should be careful into jumping into generalization. But generally, everybody gets along, even though there is a lot of greek influence, nobody really feels it is a must to join a fraternity or sorority. Most people join them for their social events and to live in their nice house honestly.

Campus Dining: We are upholded for our excellent dining services!! I am proud to be a student member of this wonderful experience that we deliver to our students! I love the job it is not too hard, but it is enjoyable and pays well. There are dining halls located throughout all of campus that each have amazing dining options for whatever your taste. Mexican, Italian, Greek, American, Chinese, whatever you like! We also offer a variety of options for our vegetarians and lactose-free or gluten-free products. Our menus are changed up every week and our meal plans have credits that we can use to our own free will to get snacks, sodas, sandwiches, ice cream, whatever you please. We also offer an App on your smartphone that lets you look up your meal credits and meals and where each location is located to go eat and the times they are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Transportation: Our transportation is included into our tuition cost, so it is as simple as hopping on a bus and going to wherever we need to go on campus. We have routes that go all over campus and even a bit far out from campus so we can go explore and not have to worry about not having a way back to campus. I love it and you don't really need a car to get around and enjoy what this campus has to offer.

Weather: Urbana weather is pretty random. If you're used to Chicago weather, then you fit right in. It is actually pretty cold and hot at random times. It could be 92 degrees one day, and 40 the next. It could rain, be windy, or a thunderstorm might roll in randomly. You never know with this weather. But overall, it is not so bad if you're prepared. Bring a sweater and a warm jacket. You're going to need it.

Scholarships: FInancial aid is pretty popular here. I applied and received a lot of helpful money i needed for books, supplies, and housing as well. I have not paid a cent out of pocket this semester, and my next semester is also paid for. On the contrary, I have received refunds that I am saving up for emergencies. I also applied to get a job in dining services and got one right away. In terms of my finances I am doing OK!

Computers: In terms of the computers and their accessibility, Urbana is pretty good at having them available to us students. I bought a brand new laptop in order to come to school and use it, but honestly, if you do not have the money to spend on one, you don't need one. Every residence hall has several available in their lounges and basements, and if not, there are several buildings across campus with computers available to the public. I'm within walking distance from a computer lab and printers available if i need them. A USB drive is vital though, the laptop, not so much.

Nightlife: The.Best.Party.Scene. By far! Almost every night there is always a party somewhere somehow. Most of the freshman residence halls are located right next to "Frat Park" as we call it down there, where most of the fraternities on campus are all conveniently clustered up. Just literally walk down the block and left and right you will see lines of people trying to get into some fraternity or sorority for a party. It is very decent and admission is only $5. The parties are pretty big in size and are so much fun. The bars are easy to get into, and it is a very good time as well. Drinks are fairly priced, and are a guarantee for a long night of fun. Being underaged does not definitely stop you from enjoying the full perks of the party scene down there. Transportation is also a plus because most parties are within walking distance or close to a bus stop available. LOVE IT!

Local Atmosphere: I love the local atmosphere my school provides! You don't need a car to truly get out of campus and into the city! All you need to do is take the bus within campus and it will take you all over the city outside. There is a variety of things you could do outside of campus. You can go to the mall and shop for clothes, shoes, games, appliances, dorm accessories, and a lot of wonderful food as well. You can go bowling, go dancing to the clubs, explore around the parks and enjoy a romantic walk with someone special. They have an apple orchard where you can go pick apples around the fall time and also a renovated cinema that has amazing screens with the top of the line digital imaging and surround sound experience! I highly recommend it!

Parking: In terms of parking, our university has a pretty decent system going on, but it can definitely be improved. A lot of people bring their cars to campus and are usually fighting for a spot. I don't personally have a car myself, not have yet dealt with any problems with parking, but I know of people who have and see the situation with my own eyes as well. I have seen people buying and selling a lot of parking spaces within campus, and the parking lots are always packed with cars.

Guys & Girls: My fellows students at the U of I are amazing people! I love the whole Illini spirit running through their veins! Honestly, I've met my fair share of people- both guys and girls - and they are fantastic to chill and talk with. I've met athletic people, fraternity/sorority people, nerdy/geeky people, party people, and hilarious people. There is an ultimate mix here since there is a wide variety of people on campus. They are all really nice and love to party that's for sure. At every party scene you're bound to meet at least 5 new people. My coworkers are very hard working and helpful. My residence hall neighbors are all hilarious and goof around all the time. I love the rich interactions i have had with my fellow students at Urbana I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Majors: I am in the college of business. It is an amazing school, and we have an awesome curriculum. It is very challenging and one of the very best in the world. We have plenty of speakers from big companies all over the world come in and talk to us about their experiences. I love it! The work load is not that bad though, it is thought-provoking, but not so extraneous. We have the very best buildings as well, we just got our business instructional facility renovated and it is truly a beautiful building full of resources for us and every other student on campus, regardless of your major. Our university offers a website to get internships and job offers called I-link. Through my experience, it is the best and I think it is very efficient and as soon as you log on you can view all of your offers and possible listings that could apply to you based on your major, grade, gpa, and preferences. It is helpful for scheduling job shadows or internships, or anything job related. It is really a sweet perk to being a business student here at the U of I.

Majors: I haven't had an internship yet as I am a freshmen, but I have already signed up for a job shadow. I have heard pretty good experiences from internships, and if you try, it is fairly easy to get one. I've heard that it is an awesome experience and a lot of people learn a lot through these experiences and I am excited to be offered one later on in my college career.

Diversity: The diversity here at Urbana-Champaign is wonderful! It has filled my everyday experiences with something new and exciting to look forward to. I have met many different people from all over the world with a wide array of majors and interests as well. Just in my resident hall, my neighbors include people from India, China, Canada, Mexico, and Norway! They are all pretty unique in their own ways and all have different religious affiliations, but they're all pretty chill people and hilarious as well. I love the diversity here!!

Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining of my University is pretty great. It's not perfect, but I think everybody enjoys it. They have a variety of food including chinese, mexican, italian, greek, and polish. They have a variety of student discounts as well, that we students receive in our mail in the beginning of the year. I feel that the diverse student population has led to the dining experience to be diverse as well.

College Freshman

Nightlife: I don't really go to parties. I guess I don't know the right people

2 College Freshman

Academics: It's not very easy. It's actually much harder than I thought. There is a major work load.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The advisers are helpful and available. They have walk-in hours and you can meet with them by appointment. The same is with the professors they have office hours and they are available to meet at times that agree with your schedule. The advisers make the registration process a breeze.

One might expect some tentative and even negative opinions about any school, but this is truly not the case here at U of I. Students are proud of U of I’s history, proud of is academic accomplishments, proud of the social opportunities it offers, and, most of all, they are proud to be alumni. For so many students to view their choice to come here as an unequivocally good one is a fantastic testament to the University’s strength.

Of course students here have plenty to complain about—the weather, the parking, the Greek social scene, the rural location. But all things considered, the positive points of the U of I experience tipped the scale—the University’s academic excellency, the safety, the social atmosphere, the athletic tradition, the city’s excellent transportation system. Some students admitted that they had a hard time adjusting, that they occasionally wished they had made another decision—but in the end, they were all happy to be here. The most encouraging fact was that so many people mentioned that they were leaving as better people, more knowledgeable, eclectic, and better equipped to navigate through life. University of Illinois students do not just leave with a piece of paper in their hands, they leave with a wealth of experience that is not easily rivaled—and, for in-staters, without enormous debt burdens to face when they graduate.
