College Freshman

Parking: I do not have a car on campus, so it I cannot speak to the procedures. The public transportation, on the other hand, is fantastic.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I have found many affordable and delicious off-campus dining options. There are a variety of options such as Mexican, Asian, Italian, fast food, etc.

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The people at my school are very diverse, so you can find anything there.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Again, I am currently living and will continue to live in university housing so I do not know much about the apartment searching process. I have seen many advertisements for apartments, though.

College Freshman

Greek Life: I do not know much about the Greek life on campus besides the fact that they're houses are prevalent and not looked down upon generally.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I have not experienced any major problems or instances where I needed these rules to be enforced, but the policies are fair and beneficial to maintaining a good campus environment

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: I received a large portion of my scholarship from the school which I appreciated because other schools did not recognize my need for aid. Also, I received loan opportunities from Illinois which was another thing I did not get offered from other colleges.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: I have not been to any campus parties, but I do know that our school ranks highly on the list of party schools. I find things to do at night that do not involve drinking or partying so the night life is good. Something unique I appreciate is that the bars allow 19-year-olds to enter and enjoy the musical performances and dance scenes.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: The nightlife scene is excellent, convenient, and cheap for students.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The university does offer a health center but it seems out of the way and not as convenient for students. Students prefer to walk in groups on campus.

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: My public housing offers great quality food but sometimes lacks variety and late night options. This is frustrating for students that live in the public housing because we are unable to spend our meal packages at the public housing dining halls.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Athletics on campus play a huge role in bringing students together and raising school spirit.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I have loved my overall experience at the University of Illinois. Although I have not been there long, the school offers such a variety of majors, classes, and activities that students can take part in. I would choose would repeatedly choose my school over again.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship from my university but am hoping that I will be able to apply for more in the future.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining options give more of a variety to students looking to break the habits of the restaurants offered on campus. Most off-campus restaurants are still very affordable to students, offer more variety, and are easy to get to with the many forms of transportation offered on campus.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The university has such a wide range of students that there is much variety.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Students are usually held to the repercussions and punishments if caught breaking any of the campus rules.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The private housing that I currently live in is very spacious, clean, and close to all my classes. Although it is nicer than the public housing, the social aspect is not as involved as in the public.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: The consumption of alcohol is pretty common on my campus.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: The local atmosphere of the campus itself is very enjoyable but fades as students leave the campus and pass the downtown ares of the big cities.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: The various off-campus housing options gives all students the opportunities to find the best living environment that best fits their desired location on campus, apartment layout, availability to school transportation and most affordable cost.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The university tries to even out the number of female and male students.

2 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life will force you to party like CRAZY! There is very little room for studying in the houses because you will be up all night. Also, they have to "bid" so it's like a popularity contest.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: For an undergraduate degree, it would be much more effective to attend a lower level university and graduate with a degree there.

1 College Sophomore

Nightlife: There are parties everywhere and underage drinking is uncontrollable.

One might expect some tentative and even negative opinions about any school, but this is truly not the case here at U of I. Students are proud of U of I’s history, proud of is academic accomplishments, proud of the social opportunities it offers, and, most of all, they are proud to be alumni. For so many students to view their choice to come here as an unequivocally good one is a fantastic testament to the University’s strength.

Of course students here have plenty to complain about—the weather, the parking, the Greek social scene, the rural location. But all things considered, the positive points of the U of I experience tipped the scale—the University’s academic excellency, the safety, the social atmosphere, the athletic tradition, the city’s excellent transportation system. Some students admitted that they had a hard time adjusting, that they occasionally wished they had made another decision—but in the end, they were all happy to be here. The most encouraging fact was that so many people mentioned that they were leaving as better people, more knowledgeable, eclectic, and better equipped to navigate through life. University of Illinois students do not just leave with a piece of paper in their hands, they leave with a wealth of experience that is not easily rivaled—and, for in-staters, without enormous debt burdens to face when they graduate.
