Whether one is looking for a place to grab a bite or dine elegantly with a date, UIC has what a student needs. Surrounding the campus are three extraordinary communities known for their cuisine. To the north of campus is Greektown, an area brimming with amazing restaurants that specialize in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. From restaurants such as Athena to Pegasus to Giordano’s, a student can pretty much find whatever satisfies his or her taste. To the south, and literally a few feet away from campus, is Little Italy, another community that has restaurants and diners that offer wonderful Italian food and beef. Places like Al’s Beef and Leona’s are definitely not to be missed. With features such as outdoor dining, delivery, catering, and vegetarian dining, these restaurants are truly one of a kind. Lastly, there is University Village, largely known for its ample Asian and American restaurants. Morgan’s Bar and Grill, Joy Yee’s Noodles Shop, and Kohan are just three of the many wonderful places to try in this area.
Also, there are many bars and lounges where students and community residents can go to relax and enjoy themselves, like the Junior Sports Lounge which is great for hanging out and cheering on Chicago sports teams. While some places are on the pricey side, many are just under $20 and offer discounts for UIC students who show their IDs. Other places to try include Chez Joel for French cuisine, Cold Stone Creamery for desserts, Hash Browns for breakfast and lunch, and Fontano’s for submarine sandwiches; these places prove that the options for off-campus dining around UIC never run dry. So, whether students are dining with that special someone or just with friends, UIC has an ample supply of off-campus options waiting to be sampled.
