4 College Junior

Scholarships: The only problem with financial aid is the wait process, other than that it is very helpful.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Biggest thing is to try and apply early for it, I didn't do that but managed to get some financial aid.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Easy process, but not a lot of opportunities if your not a racial minority

Scholarships: The campus lacks training in their various departments. I understand that students work in almost every department, serving as aids and/or receiving money for work study. That's great that the university allows that, however, I feel the students need to be properly trained if they are receiving money to do it. I had to call three separate times and speak to three different people to get a uniform answer. I was upset because I was calling from Japan and paying international rates, I would mention where I'm calling from and they would put me on hold, no problem, for over 45min. Now when you call financial aid they warn you that wait times may exceed 30-45min during peak hours. I also had/am having a situation where financial aid emailed me and told me to send in my forms for independence. I made a mistake so they told me to correct it and send only the corrected page. I called 5 days later, and the lady I'm speaking to tells me that I have to send both pages. There are way too many instances where I have been "screwed" by UH Manoa due to their lack of training in students, and students in general working in the offices that have the most importance to students compared to all other departments on campus.
