Local Atmosphere: Athens has a great small town atmosphere. The people are very friendly. There are plenty of tourist attractions, malls, and restaurants .In addition, their is always a fun sporting event going on at any given time. U of G has great sports teams, most especially the football team. Tailgating and football games are the highlight of the Athens life. Overall Athens is a safe town and the local highlights make college life there very enjoyable.

Drug Safety: Few students seemed to be involved in drugs and alcohol. Occasionally students were seen drinking in the downtown area.

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of fast food places and resturants in downtown Athens and in the surrounding area. There is everything from Chinese to Mexican to southern soul food.

Athletics: Fan support is excellent at UGA. It's such a big deal to go to the games, and I know people that drive 5 hours just to watch from the nose bleed seats. That is dedication.

Campus Dining: We have one the best food programs in our dinning halls in the country. There is always a variety of choices, and they're all good.

5 College Junior

Facilities: My school's love of football and the whole town is amazing. People are dedicated to our team and their goals. It is a very big part of going to UGA.

5 College Junior

Facilities: On UGA's campus there is always something to do. Whether it's a game at Sanford Stadium or an event at Tate, there's always a fun atmosphere in Athens.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Varsity sports at UGA are huge! The campus pretty much revolves around football in the fall. Other sports are big too and very enjoyable.

Weather: It rains a lot so when you forget your umbrella or raincoat, it gets pretty miserable. But other than that, it's beautiful in the fall and spring.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Many places offer student discounts. There are so many different places to choose from, especially downtown. Athens food is great!

Parking: Parking tickets are very expensive but so are parking passes! It's definitely a nightmare. The worst part is when you apply for a lot you really need and never get approved for it.

Campus Dining: The dining halls serve high quality food but after eating there three times a day, every day, it gets old. You can't complain about being hungry though because you can get as much food as you want as many times a day as you want.

Transportation: Athens Transit is free with a student ID. UGA Transit runs nearly everyday and is free to the public. During the busiest times of day, most busses run every 5-7 minutes.

Majors: The only requirement to get into the program is to pass a basic POLS 2000 Introductory class. The class covers some basic theory/methods of the department. I found the class challenging, but worth it. It really lets you get the feel of the skills you will need to develop in order to succeed in the major.

5 College Junior

Transportation: UGA has a great campus transit system - probably one of the best in the nation - and the city of Athens also has a transit system that supplies even more buses and more routes that help you get to where you need to go. Best of all - both are free for students.

Facilities: I personally love the facilities that can be utilized at the University of Georgia. Being on the meal-plan, I find the dining halls to be quite exceptional. The quality of the food is great, and you can come, eat, leave, and come back as often as you want.
The public transportation is top-notch: there are campus buses which only travel around campus and a few neighboring locations, and there are a plethora of Athens city buses that can pick you up in plenty of various locations throughout town and take you to and from campus, or to the grocery store, or by your workplace.
There are several different libraries and learning centers on campus that are all comfortable and offer different environments depending on how different people prefer to studying. Learning to actually utilize the Science Library and the Student Learning Center took me a while - I was convinced that studying in my dorm with my door wide open to the loud hallways was just as beneficial - but they are great for locking down, eliminating distractions, and getting work done.

Drug Safety: Being one of the top party schools in the country, UGA tries to keep the drug and alcohol scene under control. I think they do a good job as far as keeping drugs and alcohol off of campus, but there is a high level of drug and alcohol once you step off of campus.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: The campus safety and security is awesome at UGA. Anytime there is a weather alert or there is something dangerous going on in the nearby area or county (i.e. prisoner escape or other local crime) they get in touch with us immediately and do a really great job keeping student informed and aware.

Campus Dining: Best dining halls in the USA! We have won many national awards. We have a 24 hour dining common, special dinners every month, a great Sunday buffet, and so many options!!

Transportation: They have buses running all the time, nice service..

Greek Life: I entered UGA thinking Greek life would be everywhere and I'd have to grit my teeth and bare it. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find it's not as prominent as you think. If you don't want to be involved with Greek life, it's pretty easy to avoid. None of my close friends are Greek but I know plenty of people who are and they're very nice. It's not the stereotypical "of they're just stupid". I mean of course there are kids that are .. super bright and happen to be in Greek life.. it's more of a coincidence. Many of the houses require their people to input study hours in the houses.

Majors: I am very happy with my major and program. I'm a Linguistics major and all the classes that are required for my major are classes I would enjoy. I would definitely choose to be a Linguistics major again because I love language. In Linguistics we study the languages of the world and how the different sounds are produced, how the languages are similar or different to each other and I love it. I would like to interpret for a living. I'm pretty confident that I will not have a problem finding a job because with the way technology and businesses are growing interpreters are needed more and more.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is very plenty at UGA. Many students do off-campus housing because the high room and board cost.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: Nightlife at UGA is amazing! Always stuff to do, always place to go, great times are plenty.

One of the most amazing things about students at UGA is that I have never heard one person say they don't like being here. UGA and Athens have so much to offer in so many different categories, that there really is something for everyone. The positive energy of 30,000 people who are happy to be here is captivating, and something you will instantly want to be a part of. It will not take long before you regard Athens as your second home, and after about a week, most students forget how big a school it is.

It's exciting to be in Athens because there is always something going on, whether it is entertainment, a demonstration, job fairs, or just a chance to hang out with people you just met who are now your best friends. Students are encouraged to explore their talents and make the most of their four years here, and most students are able to achieve their ultimate "college experience." Sometimes, it seems like we are all characters in some cheesy teen movie because college life in Athens is so classic, but academically, socially, and personally, this school seems to have changed most of us for the better.
