5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: UGA is the greatest school in the south, and I would not rather be anywhere else.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Having the most number of bars of any college campus, Athens is home to many drunk college students during the night, which offers a big safety concern.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of different options for off campus housing; there's something for everyone.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Athens is perhaps my favorite city in Georgia, as there is always something fun to do.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: There is a lot of school spirit, being an SEC powerhouse, but there is also a lot of involvement with intramural sports, specifically soccer.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Professors are usually great teachers, but graduate students who teach classes are often hard to get along with and work with.

3 College Freshman

Academics: The degree programs at UGA are very competitive, and it takes the best of the best to get there.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: For the people of age, downtown Athens is great with all of the bars. For underage students, there are many different parties and events that do not serve alcohol, such as Phi Slam.

3 College Freshman

Weather: It rains a lot in Athens, which isn't great because walking is a big part of campus life.

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There is a lot of variety, and no matter where you are on campus, there is a dining hall close by.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: There is a scholarship for just about anything, all you have to do is find it and apply.

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The guy to girl ratio is in favor of the guys at UGA. There's always different ways to get to meet people of both genders.

5 College Freshman

Facilities: Student life is the center of this campus. Events, clubs, parties, and sports are always happening and there's always ways to get connected with different groups and organizations.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: There is almost always something to do in Athens. The athletic facilities are open late and the dining halls are a great hangout spot. There are also parties and events happening weekly so the campus is never boring.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus restaurants mainly exist for the students. Most are open extremely late and have cheap deals or students discounts.

Greek Life: Greek life at UGA is huge. There are tons of sorority girls and fraternity guys on campus, with a whole street dedicated to chapter houses. You can't go anywhere on campus and not see a Greek t-shirt or Greek letters on a car. Although the Greek life is huge, it isn't everything. Many Greeks are also involved in other aspects of student life, and just because you aren't Greek doesn't mean you're a nobody.

3 College Junior

Computers: There are a good amount of computer labs on campus, but I don't normally use them since I bring my laptop to class. There are plenty of computers in the library, in both of the student learning centers, and in most of the buildings on campus. The wireless network is huge and can be picked up on every part of campus and works really well.

Athletics: Two words describe the University of Georgia: Georgia. Football. The whole school and town revolves around UGA football and bleeds red and black, especially on Saturdays in the fall. The football team is highly respected and 99% of the students show support for them in every way possible. Other sports at UGA are also really big and have a good turnout with student fans. School spirit overflows on campus every day from every group of students.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: Since UGA's Greek life and downtown area is pretty big, the nightlife is big as well. There are a lot of frat parties to choose from and numerous bars downtown to visit throughout the night. There are taxis always available, but don't count on them during football season.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Most of my financial aid process was done online and was simple. However, there are financial aid advisers that will help you out. The financial aid office is good with sending me emails reminding me of deadlines and of important financial aid news.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: UGA is strict about the things that need to be enforced, like the honor code and drug and alcohol use. However, with less serious issues, like protests and demonstrations, UGA is more lenient in letting us express ourselves as long as no harm is done.

Local Atmosphere: Athens is probably the best college town I've ever been to. The town around the college is basically catered toward college students and football fans. The downtown area is a hit with numerous restaurants and cute shops. There are many great restaurants and other shopping centers all around Athens, and there always seems to be something to do. Football games in the fall, fairs and concerts all year round, Christmas lights hung up downtown, and plenty of parks and nature trails to enjoy in the spring. Athens is home sweet home to me.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: I'm not really knowledgeable about the drug scene on campus. I've heard of some people doing hard core drugs like cocaine and ecstasy, but I don't think its very big or that a lot of people do it. The alcohol consumption is the most prevalent drug on campus. With a plethora of bars downtown, a large Greek life, and parties every weekend, the amount of alcohol use can get pretty large at UGA.

Overall Experience: Going to the University of Georgia was the best decision I've ever made, hands down. I wouldn't trade it for the world. From the football games to the friends I've made, it has been the best experience of my life. Most people seem turned off from the idea of a big college campus, but it always comes with surprises and new experiences every semester. I got to experience many concerts, fairs, and meeting people like Aaron Murray, Vince Dooley, and Jason Aldean! I would recommend it to anyone and would definitely do it all over again if I had the opportunity.

Weather: The weather in my state is a little bipolar. Living in Georgia comes with weather changes every hour. One minute it can be bright and sunny, and the next it is dark and rainy. Our summers are really hot and humid, and our winters are normally not that bad. However, this winter the weather can't seem to make up its mind because it has been 75 degrees one minute and the next its below freezing. You just have to be prepared for anything living in Georgia.

One of the most amazing things about students at UGA is that I have never heard one person say they don't like being here. UGA and Athens have so much to offer in so many different categories, that there really is something for everyone. The positive energy of 30,000 people who are happy to be here is captivating, and something you will instantly want to be a part of. It will not take long before you regard Athens as your second home, and after about a week, most students forget how big a school it is.

It's exciting to be in Athens because there is always something going on, whether it is entertainment, a demonstration, job fairs, or just a chance to hang out with people you just met who are now your best friends. Students are encouraged to explore their talents and make the most of their four years here, and most students are able to achieve their ultimate "college experience." Sometimes, it seems like we are all characters in some cheesy teen movie because college life in Athens is so classic, but academically, socially, and personally, this school seems to have changed most of us for the better.
