3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Attendance policies vary by professor. Underage drinking is certainly not encouraged but also not very strictly prohibited.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Campus housing varies depending on which building is being discussed. Some of the buildings are very new and modern and extremely nice. However, some of them are quite old and cramped.

Off-Campus Dining: Dining in Athens is very cool because there are just so many options. Some of the restaurants are on the pricey side, but certainly not all of them are this way.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: The athletic programs at UGA are some of the best in the country and students really enjoy experiencing the events.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Downtown Athens is extraordinary. There is always something going on or something to do. Students are perceived as valuable members of society and local businesses often cater to and target students primarily.

Campus Dining: It depends on what you eat.

Facilities: My school has a great atmosphere, is a great place to part, but is also one of the best universities in the country in many of the schools it has. I think it is a great mix of everything college should be. I just wish it was a little less expensive.

Transportation: We have really great transportation. It is reliable and for the most part always available and on time. The only time that it is bad is after about 6 when the number of buses slow down greatly.

Scholarships: There are a lot of students applying for these scholarships because of how expensive of a school UGA is. In my opinion there are not enough scholarships for the amount of students that need them.

Off-Campus Dining: There's almost always somewhere to eat close to campus any time you need food.

Nightlife: Athens is the best party city around.

Campus Dining: There are not a lot of low fat/calorie options and most everything is full fat or you do not know what is in it. There is a lot of variety but often times I cannot find anything that I like. However, we have many dining halls and there is almost always food available to students. It is extremely overpriced.

Athletics: UGA athletics are the best around. The atmosphere is amazing and all the teams are supportive and the students are supportive of the teams.

3 College Student

Greek Life: I have met some great students who participate in Greek life. However, I have met some that have been extremely rude and thought you were nothing if you were not in a sorority. It is very important at the school and for the most part all they really do is throw parties.

Overall Experience: I love my school and the atmosphere. There is nothing like being a Georgia Bulldog. However, it is sometimes hard to fit in if you are not into Greek life because the influence is so huge at the school.

4 College Student

Health & Safety: We have a very good campus police and most of the pathways are well lit. Athens has crime but not in the college area for the most part. Dorm security is very strict

4 College Student

Drug Safety: There is peer pressure and it is very easy to get alcohol at parties and downtown. However, the police and people at the dorms are very strict about safe consumption and students being smart about their alcohol use.

Campus Housing: It is nice to live in dorms and have no bills to worry about and be within walking or bus distance of everything on campus. However they are extremely expensive and there is no room, especially when living with another person. A lot of the bathrooms really need to be updated.

Parking: Parking is expensive and campus is huge. Sometimes it is hard to find a place to park

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: They definitely try to guard against alcohol use, but are not very successful with such a large school.

Parking: Honestly, it depends on where you are trying to get. It mostly comes down to luck and whether or not you have to park on the opposite side of campus that you're trying to reach.

Off-Campus Housing: You can find pretty much whatever you want. Prices range significantly based on what you're looking for, and you can be almost on campus or a 30 minute drive. Most places are near a bus stop.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: The best part about the dorms is also the worst part--everyone is packed in together. It's incredibly social, and there will inevitably be issues, but overall nothing was horrible.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: There is a lot of alcohol use on campus, and I would assume drug use as well, but the great thing about UGA is that if you don't want to partake, you don't have to. Nobody is pushing anything on you.

One of the most amazing things about students at UGA is that I have never heard one person say they don't like being here. UGA and Athens have so much to offer in so many different categories, that there really is something for everyone. The positive energy of 30,000 people who are happy to be here is captivating, and something you will instantly want to be a part of. It will not take long before you regard Athens as your second home, and after about a week, most students forget how big a school it is.

It's exciting to be in Athens because there is always something going on, whether it is entertainment, a demonstration, job fairs, or just a chance to hang out with people you just met who are now your best friends. Students are encouraged to explore their talents and make the most of their four years here, and most students are able to achieve their ultimate "college experience." Sometimes, it seems like we are all characters in some cheesy teen movie because college life in Athens is so classic, but academically, socially, and personally, this school seems to have changed most of us for the better.
