Campus Housing: Closet living, but super social! Every freshman needs to live on-campus in one of the freshman dorms. Sure, you live in a shoebox, but you'll make so many friends and have the time of your life. The bathrooms aren't too nasty, either. The biggest perk? Proximity to classroom buildings.

Off-Campus Dining: From fast food to unique fair, lots of choices! Downtown boasts unique fare, while every chain restaurant in the world is about five minutes away from campus. There are lots of different options; Athens is a good place to eat!

Campus Dining: Much better than most schools! It's roughly $14 a day for all-you-can eat, buffet style food from UGA. That means you can have a big, country style breakfast, a burrito and nachos for lunch, ice cream for a snack, and pizza and a big plate of stir fry for dinner. Almost everything is good, and the variety is nice. Definitely get the meal plan if you live on campus.

Facilities: Very Impressive! Some older classroom buildings can be a bit dingy, but the big three - MLC, Tate and Ramsey - are great! I love going to $1 movies at Tate, and studying at MLC really makes you get your work done, it's such a great resource. Ramsey is awesome, but go during off hours to get machines.

Computers: You NEED your own laptop and I would bring a printer to share with your roommate so you don't have to pay (there are always free printer specials during the summer). If you need one, I'd go to MLC or the library, but laptops are definitely easier. PAWS (the campus-wide wireless) can be slow and you have to log in each time you use it. Get a wireless router if you live in the dorm.

Health & Safety: I've Always Felt Safe – Just be smart, don't go anywhere sketchy, and if it's after dark don't walk alone. Especially on the weekends, cops and UGA police are everywhere. Campus police are typically nice and helpful, while Athens-Clarke County cops can be hard-asses.
I've never had an issue with the health center; the pharmacy is very good.

Local Atmosphere: It Depends Where You Are. There are certain places very close to campus I'm afraid of. BUT, downtown is amazing. The nightlife, shopping and food are all unique and there's definitely something for everyone. Milledge and Five Points are great areas, too, but the projects are located nearly on the UGA campus. Not good.

Academics: Depends on the Prof – I really enjoy all of my teachers; they're reasonable, helpful, and seem to truly care about you learning the material and making a good grade. BUT, I used ratemyprofessors.com and Koofers in making my schedule so I didn't pick any badly-rated teachers. Doing your research makes the difference between passing and failing, sometimes.

Guys & Girls: In 2010, UGA was rated #1 party school. There is a lot of Greek life but the college is not centered on it. Over 60% are girls. Athens is very hipster and the music scene is popular.

5 College Senior

Facilities: The Ramsey Center is amazing. It is the workout center with every possible workout machine, court, etc. possible. The student centers are new and huge and provide a lot of space. There are over 500 organizations at UGA.

4 College Senior

Computers: There are many computers students can use at UGA. There are computer labs in the libraries as well as the student centers, and in various other academic buildings. Printing is available for $0.06 a sheet. Most of the computers are PCs, but there are some Macs too. They are all very reliable with fast internet connection.

Parking: There is parking available everywhere on campus, but none of its free unless you are parking after hours. If you live on campus, your chances of getting a parking space is extremely low and the cost of a parking space is fairly expensive

Off-Campus Housing: Apartments off campus is a very popular housing selection at UGA. The prices are average but there are many different types of off campus housing to choose from. Location wise, there are apartments close to and a little farther off from campus, but most can be reached by bus from campus.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The atmosphere is very friendly and there are a lot of activities that are available to all students. Athens is a little farther away from a bustling city life, but the large university of georgia campus makes up for the lack of people.

Majors: Not Happy – The only reason that I am not happy with my International Affairs program is because it is extremely difficult to register for the classes you want. Because there is such a limited amount of IA teachers, students are forced to take classes that are particularly unfavorable. If I could do it all over again, there is no chance that I would change my major to IA from Biology. My primary career goal is to work for the Defense Intelligence Agency or The United Nations. My main concern is that both of these careers are very competitive and my school and advisors are not good at providing assistance.

Transportation: The University of Georgia has a bus line of about 50 buses that run every few minutes. Students can also use their student id to ride Athens Public Transit buses for free, which will take you all around the city.

Campus Housing: East Campus Village Is Amazing – Living on campus is a wonderful experience, in that it gives students the opportunity to remain connected to the other members of the student body with ease. Resident Assistants and Class Advocates assist students in making an easy transition into college life. The freshmen high-rise dorms are pretty tiny and the community bathrooms are beyond unfavorable. However, the janitorial staff keeps them extremely clean. East Campus Village, which houses primarily upperclassmen and athletes, is amazing. It is composed of several buildings with apartment-style rooms. The best thing about living on campus is the awesome programs UGA Housing executes in each and every dorm throughout campus.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: We have 2 bus systems: The UGA transit, and the Athens-Clarke County transit. Both are very convenient and free for students.

2 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Party School – There are many parties on any night of the week. The downtown area is full of bars, so there are many inebriated students around campus, especially on the weekends.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: We have so many options available to us everyday. I never get tired of the food. We even have a 24 hour dining hall! All 4 of our dining halls are excellent.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Labs Are Always Available – THere are computer labs in most of the dormitories. There are also labs in most of the buildings. The labs are available during the day and the ones in the dorms are available 24 hours. The wireless network is great. You can connect in any building on campus. Printing is available in all of the labs and there is also a printing lab.

Local Atmosphere: The Great Life in Athens – There are many restaurants and attractions. The University of Georgia is a very student oriented place. There are always clubs and organizations to join and get involved in. The downtown scene is wonderful. Many restaurants are available to eat at. There are bars and clubs to go to if you enjoy them. There is a botanical garden close by. There are also many cool scenes to take pictures and enjoy the scenery.

Guys & Girls: SEC Girls Are the Best – I would not change anything about our female or male populations. I get along with the guys and the girls are beautiful. Regardless of your type, SEC girls are one of a kind.

3 College Junior

Diversity: Very Diverse – There are many religions and races on Campus and while some races have their own specific groups or Greek organizations there is no racial tension.

Campus Housing: Perfect for Freshman – Incoming Freshman get the opportunity to met a vast amount of people through living in such a populated dorm setting. Convenience, social atmosphere and ease are top notch. Cost advantages include close proximity to classes so transportation is basically free plus utilities, cable and internet are included in room and board. Most freshman do not bring their car first year so dorms are perfect for them. Best option is East campus village which are apartment style, with worse being one of the older dorms where you must share a limited living space. It is my understanding that most upperclassmen prefer living off campus in their own space usually with friends they meet in the dorms.

One of the most amazing things about students at UGA is that I have never heard one person say they don't like being here. UGA and Athens have so much to offer in so many different categories, that there really is something for everyone. The positive energy of 30,000 people who are happy to be here is captivating, and something you will instantly want to be a part of. It will not take long before you regard Athens as your second home, and after about a week, most students forget how big a school it is.

It's exciting to be in Athens because there is always something going on, whether it is entertainment, a demonstration, job fairs, or just a chance to hang out with people you just met who are now your best friends. Students are encouraged to explore their talents and make the most of their four years here, and most students are able to achieve their ultimate "college experience." Sometimes, it seems like we are all characters in some cheesy teen movie because college life in Athens is so classic, but academically, socially, and personally, this school seems to have changed most of us for the better.
