Facilities: When I first arrived at the University of Georgia, I was highly impressed by the various amenities and facilities. We have a state of the art gym that's just like a high end health center. The student center has hundred of computers on three out of its four levels, all open for student use. The campus itself is beautiful, with its lush trees and sprawling lawns.

Campus Dining: Best Dining Hall Experience – UGA has the best Dining Halls/Commons of any school I've been to. It's all you can eat! There's so much to choose from it's hard to have the exact same meal twice if you live to spice things up.
Once you're off the meal plan, you'll forever long to be back on it. But options aren't terrible for non mealplan students, just not as varied.

Academics: Professors Very Helpful – As a first-year student, I was afraid that the professors would either a) hate me or b) be unwilling to help outside of class. The professors I have had, however, are extremely helpful and always ready to help. This is very true of the women in the Women's Studies department.

Campus Dining: Lots of Variety – There is a lot of different food choices at the dining hall. Bulldawg bucks are also useful at restaurants off campus.

5 College Senior

Computers: Lots of Technology Access – The SLC has so many computers for students to use. I have never experienced not being able to find a computer when I needed one.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: Pretty Safe – I usually do not feel unsafe on UGA's campus, but I do not put myself in a situation to feel uncomfortable. At night time I never walk alone around UGA's campus.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: There are mainly parking spots on campus that is close to all major UGA buildings. There is ample parking for you to drive to classes and residence halls. The only time parking really gets awful is during sporting events, especially football. You have to pay for parking, but parking is free during the night. Just don't park over night at most parking spots.

Campus Strictness: Strict, but Still Easy – Athens is one of the more strict counties when it comes to underage drinking in bars and clubs. The PD department here has stepped up it's policies against underage drinking especially in bars and clubs. You can get arrested, face a heavy fine, and get school probation if caught. Still, alot of people still go downtown underage, as long as you avoid doing incredibly stupid stuff, your fine. Mostly, the police just watch for students doing obvious, stupid stuff like driving drunk, public urination, causing a scene, etc. If you have common sense and good judgment, you will be good to go here.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: It's There – Drugs here at UGA are no different from most other major colleges. Like others said, the most consumed drug/drink here is alcohol (what did you else did you expect?). Beer/drinks is very easy to get because of the proximity and the number of bars, clubs, convenience stores, fraternity houses, etc. Pot is also a very common substance found here in Athens. On the other hand, If your not into the drug scene, it's hard to avoid all the drugs here in Athens, but it's not impossible. The good thing is that UGA has a something for everyone, and it's up to you to decide what you want to do here.

Facilities: Fully Functional Campus! All the facilities on campus are well equipped. The fully functional gym (the Ramsey Center), health center, food services registered dieticians and intramural sports complex are all well equipped to handle any health needs and excercise plans you can come up with. Speaking of Dieticians, the campus offers 4 dining halls that students can go to, one of which is open 24 hrs a day (Monday-Thursday) so that students can dine or snack happily; all four are nationally recognized and have some of the best food around-besides mom's cooking.
UGA is also well equipped to teach all majors. As an animal science major, I am very pleased that UGA has the proper facilities to house chickens, pigs, sheep, horses, and cows (both Beef and Dairy). In addition, the University has an on-campus meat processing facility that is USDA inspected and allows students to process meats and make things like sausages and beef patties. All these facilities are fully operational and gives students the chance to experience all aspects of a career field before graduating.

Local Atmosphere: Athens provides the University of Georgia with the "small town" feel without sacrificing the convience of a big city. UGA students get to enjoy the luxury of using the city bus system that allows you to go almost anywhere. Say you want to go see a movie... Athens has 2 theaters on the bus route... Need a new pair of shoes? You can get to your favorite store (Target, Wal-mart, the Mall) in no time. Athens also has a skating rink and 2 bowling alleys in case you run out of things to do. In case you are interested in the music scene and/or nightlife, downtown Athens is chock-full of all the upcoming musicians, artists and dancing to satisfy your artistic needs. In terms of sports, UGA is well known for it's football and also offers up a number of other sports events whether it be basketball, soccer, baseball, half-marathons, biking, volleyball and a whole lot of others. UGA also offers GORP (Georgia Outdoor Rec Program) where students and locals can go rafting, snorkling, splunking, camping, backpacking etc. All in all, Athens is a safe and great place to live and the University of Georgia makes it all the more interesting.

Overall Experience: Wonderful School – I love the University of Georgia because it offers the best of everything. Social life here is more than anything than I could have asked for, and more importantly the academics here are very strong, especially for a pre-med student like myself.

Transportation: Buses Are Great – The bus system is very convenient, however they get packed pretty easily and frequently.

Facilities: Athletic Center – The athletic facilities at UGA are fantastic. Everything you could possibly want to do are available at the Ramsey Center. We have a 50 meter swimming pool complete with all tiers of diving boards, multiple basketball, volleyball, and soccer courts. In addition, there are ten racquetball courts and two squash courts. Also a huge number of classes are provided at the center.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Police and Safety Services – The University of Georgia is a safe environment. The police and campus security do their best to make sure the students feel safe. There are safety escort services for students who are out late in study groups or other activities.

5 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Lots of Activities – There are numerous activities to get involved in on campus and in the local community. Athens, Georgia is the place to be on Saturdays to enjoy BullDog Nation and the DAWGS in action.

5 College Junior

Transportation: Catch a Bus! The bus schedule at UGA makes life so much easier for the average student. UGA has a large campus, so it requires a lot of buses. All of the buses are free, when using your school id, even the city transit buses. There is a great night bus that goes from student housing to downtown until 2am. That being said, it is still very easy to walk everywhere!

5 College Junior

Academics: The classes at UGA are challenging, but the teachers are very helpful. As a French major who transferred to UGA from another school, I can say that they have the best French program in the area. The French teachers come from around the world, including France and African nations. I have learned so much about French culture just from talking with them. Be sure to attend the French Table every week for casual conversation in French!

5 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Everyone at UGA is extremly friendly. You can walk around campus or had downtown and meet someone new every day. The guys and girls know how to party AND how to get A's.

Weather: The weather in Athens could be extremely hot one week, but the next week could be chilly and rainy. You just have to be prepared for any type of weather. Walking up a lot of hills to get to class in either rainy weather or scorching heat is no fun.

Campus Dining: Very Good Food – I am on the meal plan this year and I love the availability of the food. It is actually great food, and there is always a variety of options. However, I only suggest the meal plan if you are a freshman. You might get sick of it after that.

Facilities: Some of the newer buildings on campus (SLC, Tate Center) are very nice and asthetically pleasing. However, some structures such as the chemistry building and Park Hall could use renovations. They are outdated and there is often graffiti found in the bathrooms of these buildings. Overall, you do get a "historic" sense of UGA's campus, which is nice.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Go Dawgs! The University of Georgia is known for their football team. Every fall all the students rally together to cheer for the dawgs in Sanford Stadium. Football, as well as most sports, is taken very seriously here. There are a lot of athletes here and they just as diverse as the sports offered.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: New to This – I am currently a freshman, so I have not experienced living off campus yet, but I have leased an apartment for next year! The choices were really great and every apartment complex had a lot to offer. There are many choices to choose from so it was certainly not easy to choose.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The University of Georgia has many great things to offer. The campus is beautiful with many study spaces and quiet areas to relax. The classes are not too difficult and there are always professors available to help students in any way.

One of the most amazing things about students at UGA is that I have never heard one person say they don't like being here. UGA and Athens have so much to offer in so many different categories, that there really is something for everyone. The positive energy of 30,000 people who are happy to be here is captivating, and something you will instantly want to be a part of. It will not take long before you regard Athens as your second home, and after about a week, most students forget how big a school it is.

It's exciting to be in Athens because there is always something going on, whether it is entertainment, a demonstration, job fairs, or just a chance to hang out with people you just met who are now your best friends. Students are encouraged to explore their talents and make the most of their four years here, and most students are able to achieve their ultimate "college experience." Sometimes, it seems like we are all characters in some cheesy teen movie because college life in Athens is so classic, but academically, socially, and personally, this school seems to have changed most of us for the better.
