Local Atmosphere: Gainesville is a great town. Even though it is only known for the University of Florida there are plenty of local places to go. The local restaurants are delicious and Lake Walburg is a great place to spend a relaxing day. There are plenty of clubs and bars to party with your friends.

Majors: I have not had an internship yet but I realize their importance. Even though most internships are unpaid positions, it is worth the commitment due to the experience you gain. An internship helps major companies realize that you are experienced and can work for them some day.

Off-Campus Housing: Pros: It is nice to live close to campus without being on campus, parking is always a big factor and most apartments have plenty of parking.
Cons: The apartments are a little bit expensive (less than the dorms of course).

Local Atmosphere: Total college atmosphere, town revolves around UF!

Academics: Part of the reason why I chose to attend UF is because it has one of the largest catalog of majors to choose from. I am a Business student in the Fisher School of Accounting. The courses for this program range from very difficult "weed-out" courses to meaningful, and not too difficult, courses that definitely will help you later on in life. Perhaps the most impressive part of the Fisher school, and the Business school in general, is the extensive networking, advising, and career preparedness network they have. All the advisors truly care about the students and want us to succeed in life. There is much to be desired in terms of study abroad options though; it is difficult for an Accounting student to study abroad with all of the difficult coursework that has to be completed at UF.

Transportation: Busses are available when you need them and run often, the campus circulator busses take you to the center of campus which is walking distance from most classes. However, nighttime and weekend busses are much less frequent and/or not available. Busses that run off campus take you to the important parts of Gainesville, but are usually lengthy in terms of time. UF has many Zipcar rental locations, and the company charges you on a student rate making them affordable and always accessible. They are able to be rented from 1 hour to whole days making them great for running off campus errands.

Greek Life: Not part of one, I wouldn't know how their life affects campus. Not many of them are heard of.

Nightlife: The best things are house parties, but the night life in mid-town and down-town are ok. Transportation is great, no need to drive at night for any reason. If you drink don't drive, cops are everywhere!

Facilities: UF has a lot of school spirit, everyone here is proud to be a part of the Gator Nation. From traditions at footballs games to the packed bleachers at basketball games, you'll never have a dull moment. There are plenty of opportunities for internships and volunteering. The campus is big, but thanks to our bus system it is very easy to get from point A to point B. People are very friendly and are always willing to help.

Greek Life: Greek life dominates UF. They are good for the parties and alcohol, however they basically just get drunk and make a lot of noise. I feel like everyone I meet is in a frat or sorority. It is kind of annoying because they act like they are the best and are very cliquey. However some of them are very nice. There are plenty of greek housing available.

Health & Safety: I have not ever experienced anything that has harmed me on campus. I have not felt threatened either. UF has SNAP vans that will drive you around when you call so that you don't have to walk or go anywhere alone. Also, they have emergency light poles for you to press in every area around campus. Lastly, they do send emails and text messages whenever there is a threat, and the message will tell you what the person looks like, where they are and what to do. I think any college campus you choose is going to have some areas where you should not go, and you should never walk by yourself at night wherever you go, so a threat can be possible anywhere. It is really up to you to be smart about your decisions when traveling alone and at night.

Athletics: Students are very involved in the sports surrounding UF. They will cheer and dress to impress in orange and blue! The teams at UF are pretty good and are ranked very high. The facilities are top quality and all of the sports are free for students, except for football games, but it is only $15 for a ticket. I love the atmosphere around game time, because people get so into the game and it's so much fun!

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Busses are free for students and come often and regularly. At night there's SNAP which will take you to any place on campus for free. Also the Later Gator is convenient for leaving Midtown on the weekends.

Computers: I've really only ever used my personal computer but there are plenty of computers available in the libraries, some labs even have dual screens.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Besides street laws and parking, they're pretty lax unless there are complaints.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: The University of Florida is incredibly diverse, especially the honors college which i am currently a part of.

Greek Life: Ihave applied to become a Greek Ambassador, in this position I would be able to educate fellow Greeks and inform future members what Greek life is all about. Greek life in a sorority/ fraternity is not all about partying and meeting new people all the time. There are key aspects to what we live for; scholarship, service, leadership, and community. I feel that becoming a Florida Greek Ambassador will help me fulfill my duties in pursuing leadership within my sorority. This privilege also accommodates community, as Florida Greek Ambassadors, we will strive to inform students from all over how much Greek life can impact their lives and what they can contribute.
One of the responsibilities is to present information on the Florida Greek Community to First Year Florida classes. I first thought about becoming involved in a sorority because a Florida Greek Ambassador came to my First Year Florida class and informed me on the different aspects that the Greek community can offer me. That was a life changing decision that I cherish, and I want to do the same thing for another student. Becoming a Greek Ambassador will be another step for me to keep these aspects continuous in my life.

Diversity: I currently belong to the Freshman Leadership Counsel and ADPi sorority. Both to these social groups are made of a very diverse population with differnt ethnic backgrounds and relgious/political beliefs. This diversity is what makes both of these groups successful and helps them make such an impact to the campus of the University of Florida. There is something to learn from everyone, we must to open and receptive to others.

Weather: It is really nice for Florida. Still really hot in the summer, but the rest of the year is so nice. It does rain a lot in the summer and fall. Get a rain jacket.

Athletics: Come on... this is UF. Need I say more. Best Athletic programs ever.
School spirit through the roof. Come up and visit on any game day and
see a city, a whole city, not just the campus colored orange and blue.

Academics: UF has great academics. There are so many professors and classes to choose from. I have never had any problem getting the classes I need.
If you go to rate my professor, you can get honest opinions from other students ranking the professors. This is a really valuable tool. There are tons of study options. Teachers have office hours, there are tutors and there are always study groups being formed in the classroom.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Being a math major is really, really hard. If you go this route, be prepared for a full workload. Lots and lots of homework. Curriculum is great. Facilities are great. Be prepared to be in really big classes with 200+ kids in the class. Your professor will give the lectures, but students rely on their TA for most things. Professors are available for office hours, but if you have other classes at those same times, then you better get a tutor.
There are many internships available, and it is important you are involved in one by your sophmore year if you want to get into graduate school.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Stayed at Tolbert my freshman year. My room was just a regular dorm room, but the common areas and the bathrooms were always kept nice and clean.

3 College Junior

Transportation: Public Transportation is free for students, you just need your ID to ride. There are buses that go around the town, from town to campus, and just around campus. The buses are usually on time and there is an app for phones that you can use to track them. Also, if you are on campus, there is a programs that you can call to be transported around campus after dark.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
