Nightlife: Lots of options for everyone. Tons of bars and clubs downtown or midtown. They can busy any day of the week.

Campus Dining: The dining halls have a lot of options but are not very cheap unless using a big meal plan. There are quite a few other options but the hours aren't great.

Health & Safety: Very safe for such a large school. Only a couple isolated incidents happen each year.

Facilities: UF's plethora of electives and majors allows any student to essentially study anything they want. Even if you have to go to another university to make it happen UF is so good at getting there students to where they want to be. I was a classics major and while I didn't have as many options and variety as a history major, I still felt that I had a great variety of ancient history courses to choose from.

Drug Safety: I spent 2 and a half years living on campus, and two of my roommates were upperclassmen. They were, for the most part "responsible partiers" and really just social drinkers, and I had the sense that there were many students like this at UF. The alcohol intake at UF is high, however, most drug use was restricted to parties and other social gatherings, and I didn't hear much or see much use of hard drugs.

Weather: I love the weather here! You get an experience of all ranges of temperatures. One week it will be cold, while the next week it will be in the low 80's. One complaint would be that you can never predict what the weather will be like because of these random changes so it's a bit hard to prepare for them. Also, in Fall semester it randomly rains so you should always bring an umbrella or else you may be left stranded until it clears up. It may be blue sky as far as the eye can see, then randomly start pouring. But, overall I think the weather is beautiful!

Athletics: Athletics are very important at UF. Many students attend the sporting events whether it be football, basketball or gymnastics. If you don't go to any it's actually kind of weird. One of the main appeals is that the athletes never disappoint. In fact, the Gators have won twenty-three of the last twenty-six SEC All-Sports Trophies, recognizing Florida as the best overall athletics program in the SEC (wikipedia.com). My mom is actually included in that, being that she won the 1978 National Championship for the Pentathlon while attending UF. But best of all is the fans enthusiasm at all the sporting events. There is nothing like it! We bleed orange and blue!

Scholarships: Make sure to always chechk how much you've received and if that matches the amount you calculated you were going to get. If it doesn't match, don't be afraid to call the Financial Aid department.

Academics: The Forensic Distance Program is very supportive. The professors are great with communication and with any assistance you may need. They try to have a community forum, but it doesn't seem to be updated very often.

5 College Senior

Facilities: The Forensic Science Graduate Distance Education program is really well respected within the Forensics community. The program is fully accredited and you actually learn something!

1 College Sophomore

Academics: I was majoring in Art History. While all of my friends are talking about how challenging their classes are, I felt like I was in elementary school. Most of my classes had a survey class feel to them even if they were a higher level. The material was generally taught in "memorize and repeat" sort of way.

2 College Sophomore

Academics: Some of the professors are great, some don't care. Some classes are HUUUGE, like in the hundreds. Many classes are taught mostly by TAs that don't speak English very well... seriously.

Nightlife: UF is rated as the Top US party school in many circles. There are always clubs, and parties happening on campus for those who want to stay close.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: There isn't a whole bunch of people doing the same major in my major. There are so many people who are doing the same majors like engineering or biology where at some point, the market for these majors are going to get saturated and people aren't hiring the amount of people that is coming out of college. I chose Anthropology because I like learning about different cultures and they differ between them. It gives a unique perspective of the world.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: There is probably a sports event going on every night. The biggest thing is football season where 90,000 people come and join in at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to watch the Gators play. The games are fantastic and the weekends are even better. This only occurs in the fall but in the Spring, college basketball is the biggest thing. You have to register for these and for football, it is $15 for UF students.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: There are computers everywhere. They aren't abundant but you could probably find some across campus, especially in the labs. The lab in the Reitz Student Union offers free printing up to a limit per semester. There is no blockage in websites from what I have seen.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: There is always the option of going out and partying but other than that, you have to make do with it. There aren't any local attractions but there are the occasional events around town. If you are able to make friends, you will have a good time without the need of attractions around town. There are some shady areas in town but not in the main college locale. On a typical night you see sluts strolling around midtown or Ryan Lochte trying to pick up college girls in downtown. It is all about finding that niche.

Weather: When it's cold or raining, I don't want to go to class.

Facilities: Most of the facilities are old and a lot of them need remodeling, except for the new SouthWest Gym. Also, there should be another dormitory built to house more students.

5 College Freshman

Facilities: The campus is beautiful. The College of Journalism and Communications has provided me with an abundant amount of opportunities as well as great professors. There are so many different ways to become involved that it's almost overwhelming. The atmosphere at UF is amazing, and you can tell just from walking around campus that everyone loves being here.

Nightlife: There are a lot of things to in Gainesville, but going out to bars for guys under 21 is extremely hard. It is definitely easier for girls under 21. This rule makes fake IDs something that more people, especially guys, seek to obtain. If bars and clubs allowed guys 18+ it the number of fake IDs used would go down. Also, SNAP should pick up people from midtown.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I'm currently an accounting major and I enjoy it. UF has an amazing business school and provides a 3/2 option which allows me to graduate in 5 years with a Master's and Bachelor's degree upon qualifying for the program. The accounting school is a beautiful building and the internships and job opportunities that the advisors can set up for students are amazing. The advisors are very friendly and are working with you to help set up your schedule and allow you to have an awesome experience at UF.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Registering for classes is not difficult, it is all online but most majors require an advising appointment before registration. Freshman pick last and sometimes have a tough time getting the classes they want or need since they are general requirements or critical tracking courses. The curriculum and workload is often rigorous but is in the student's best interest. UF has a policy that if a student earns a C- in a class, he or she has to repeat the course. This makes courses tougher but is beneficial to the students. It helps make UF a prestigious university in Florida. Popular study areas are either Library West or the Marston Science Library. Library West is almost always crowded and is usually very silent. Marston is nice because not as many students go there and you can maintain small conversations with people at their table.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The academic programs at UF are outstanding. Professors and advisors work with students to provide the best opportunities they can. Students graduating from UF generally have gained experience throughout their UF career and find jobs right out of college. Gainesville is a college town so there is always something to do. Many students go to Midtown or Downtown for nights out to have fun. The facilities on campus are generally in good condition. There could be some renovations or better furniture in some buildings but for the most part they are fine.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have always felt safe on campus. The majority of UF alerts sent out to students are safety issues that are happening off campus. On campus is very safe. Students run a service called SNAP that will take you wherever you want to go as long as you remain on campus. Although I feel safe on campus, UF alerts are stressful because they do not always find the suspects and students frequently get UF alerts stating that the scene is clear but the suspects are at large.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
