5 College Senior

Athletics: Playing sports and attending games is very common. The gyms and other athletic facilities are some of the nicest facilities on campus. Almost everyone plays some sort of intramural sport.

Nightlife: Fun! But sometimes hard to get into places or even have fun if you aren't 21.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Awful, gross food at the dining halls. Meal plans are expensive. The food on individual places on campus are good but expensive.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: There are drugs, I am sure, in frat houses, parties etc. I have see them at those places but I have never been pressured or felt uncomfortable because I am not involving myself with them.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: Clean, but alot of students do Adderall to help study. There is also alcohol use and zanax.

4 College Junior

Computers: Webmail email system is not so great but they are making improvements.

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life is huge at UF. Everything at UF is about greek life. However, if you are not in a sorority or frat then things can get tough and it may be hard to make friends.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of good and new places to eat around Gainesville that you wouldn't find at home. The prices are fair and a lot of restaurants have deals on certain days. For example Tiuana Flats has taco Tuesdays which will get somebody two tacos chips and a drink for $5.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: The buses run until 3 AM to certain locations which makes it easy to get around at night. During the day the bus system runs all over campus as well as around the town to make it easy to not only get to classes but also around campus. The one down side is that the buses run late a lot and fill up easily.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Many are friendly, and some can be a little cocky and annoying, but if you don't mind that, you should not have much of a problem. However, be careful when it comes to wild parties.

Computers: Enough Labs for All Students – There are a good number of computer labs located in the libraries and the student union for students. However, the afternoon hours have the most people, so if you want to have a good quiet space and an available computer, its best to stop by in the morning.

4 College Junior

Academics: Some professors are friendly and are eager to teach their classes, while others aren't. However, all have various honors for their teaching and research. Don't be the student that comes to class but never asks questions, or wait until exam time to see the professor. That is what office hours are for.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: If you are a party person, there are lots of clubs and parties advertised on social media. No club tolerates underage drinking, so if you want to drink and you're under 21, you are out of luck.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: The school is predominately white but there is no racism or under representation in the university. Every has just as much as a voice as anyone else.

Off-Campus Dining: It's amazing!! You have to eat at the Copper Monkey, Relish, Satchel and Lombardis. All those restaurants are amazing. My favorite is the Copper Monkey which is a burger joint.

5 College Freshman

Facilities: The school gym is very versatile and can be used by anyone. They gym is very big and there are many weight machines. There are also 9 basketball courts and an indoor track.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: I did not receive financial aid but what I have hear from friends is that they received it quickly and efficiently

Local Atmosphere: It's an amazing atmosphere. There is so much school spirit and everyone is so nice.

3 Recent Alumnus

Facilities: Libraries are HUGE and wonderful for studying. However, dorms are cramped and many times strange especially the lower freshman dorms. Campus traditions are evident everywhere. University of Florida gives students a booklet on different traditions and events that students can participate in. The school loves it when students get involved.

4 Recent Alumnus

Weather: In Florida, there is not much bad weather. The only thing that can stop classes completely is hurricanes, which rarely occur. Rain may cause students to be slightly late but classes carry on uninterrupted.

Local Atmosphere: I was NOT a gator fan when I came to Gainesville for the first time. I thought that University of Florida was too large and not useful to me. However, the immense love and happiness of the students on campus convinced me that I could not only belong in a student body of 50,000 students, but thrive.

Drug Safety: Drugs are available everywhere and if you want to find them; you will. However, University of Florida, even with a huge body of students, tries with every effort to create a drug free campus to surround the students will.

5 College Junior

Athletics: Varsity sports at the University of Florida are extraordinary. In the top conference and competing in the top tier of student-atheletes in the nation, the university dedicates an infinite amount to accomplish the set goals. There is a spectacular training and workout amenities. The facilities include friendly and passionate staff that help in all aspects for the athelete: physically, pyschologically, academically, and for a fufilled college experience. IM and clubs sports are also popular. There are many oppurtunities for students to get involved in at all competitive levels. A new trend is underwater hockey.

5 College Junior

Greek Life: Greek life is very involved in the party scene and community involvement. But it doesn't dominate the athletics, but contribute to the support from the students. It's noted if you are involved in Greek life, which is great as it encourages one's involvement, academics and school pride. It's nice to have a group of friends and be able to network, which are all great oppurtunities and experiences!

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
