3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: didnt get a meal plan but food tastes like cardboard

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Gainesville is definitely a college town. Even though there isn't much going on in Alachua County, downtown and midtown are definitely places to be and there are many culutral activities to take part in around Gainesville.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: There are definitely people who partake in smoking and definitely drinking with the extensive club ar bar scene near campus. I don't really think it's a problem sincle people at UF HAVE to get to good grades to stay in the school.

3 College Freshman

Majors: I'm in the College of Health and Human Performance. The only time I have had guidance in which classes to take is during Preview. I was giving a guide to all the majors that the University of Florida offers. I have been following that guide book, and been doing pretty ok. I think the advisers are there for once you are entering into a specific program. However, the professors have been real fun people. They are very well connected with others in their field and have no problem writing letters of recommendation for their students.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I always feel safe on campus, except sometimes walking alone very late at night when no one else is around. I have heard stories about people getting attacked walking late but have never experienced anything personally. Keep dorm rooms and apartments locked and always walk with a group or call SNAP or Gotcha.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: There is a ton of student pride at UF and student life is great.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There are lots of blue light security stations and the campus is well lit. SNAP is available to pick up students at night.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The campus is easy to navigate. The buildings are all unique and beautiful.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I got the financial aid that I needed, however I am still looking for more to cover my growing expenses.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: My program is competitive, but this competition helps me to strive to be a better student. In addition, the Nursing program at UF is ranked as one of the top in the country.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: The dining hall hours did not immediately fit my schedule, as I woke up earlier than the dining hall opened. Other than that, there were many options and the food was of good quality. And if I didn't like anything, there were always supplies to create sandwiches.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Public Transportation is good, but some of the specialty bus routes frequently are out of service, making it less convenient for those who use those routes on a regular basis.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I received a small amaount of frinancial aid, but it was easily disbursed without any issues. One should definitely be aware of the financial policies and requirements prior to applying.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: UF offers so many ways tobve involved and have fun. There are countlesss open spaces for thosse who like to enjoy the outddoors and indoor areas for those who prefer to be more secluded. Not a day goes by where there is aabsolutely nothing to do on ccampus, the buzz is nonn-stop.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: UF provides amazing opportunites when it comes to club organnizations that allow people to network and advance their planed career paths.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Alcohol is pretty noticeable on campus but other drugs aren't very popular, at least on campus

3 College Junior

Academics: There are always lots of students so there are lecture hall classes. Its easier to do things on your own but there are those few smaller classes with group projects. Pretty good school and workload depends on your major.

3 College Junior

Athletics: Football has gotten better, I guess but the other sports are really good.

2 College Junior

Campus Dining: 2 Dining halls with average food. There are hubs and convenience stores around campus with Subway, Chic-Fil-A and KFC but these close early. Then there's the Reitz Union where the portions are a bit smaller than when you eat off campus and the food is average too. It gets boring eating from on campus locations and expensive too.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Gainesville is a college town with not many things to do besides what's provided by UF, eating at restaurants, shopping, going to parks, and the mall.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: I would say that the diversity is pretty great at UF. We have an entire International House, although its not required that you live there if you're an international student. There are many different houses/clubs/organizations that represent cultures and religions such as Krishna, Hillel, Chabad, Muslim Student Organization, Caribbean student organization, and so many more. A large majority of the students are liberal, and accept and support all sexual orientations through clubs such as GSA and LGBTQ of UF. Although a large portion of the campus is liberal, I have seen many advertisements for "Gator Republicans" and groups for other political parites.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I think that the strictness is pretty fair. As long as you're not throwing loud parties in your dorm, the RAs pretty much stay out of your hair. Police aren't too strict except for parking if you respect them and stay out of their hair. If you do get caught for drinking in the dorms or being drunk while you're in the dorms, the RA has to write you up and call the police so DON'T get caught.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Sports at UF are great! School spirit is super important to every student at the school, no doubt! Even if you don't have football tickets, you go to tailgates! GO GATORS!

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: Lots of frat parties on the weekends, lots of clubs/bars are 18+ and some are even free on some nights of the week. Buses go downtown so its easy to get around before 3 AM and midtown is easily accessible walking from campus.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: Compared to UCF and FSU, the clubs are smaller and not as popular. Most students over 21 go to midtown and enjoy the bars.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
