Weather: I will give the weather of Gainesville a B because it has been raining alot here but it is also summer. It's always good to have a mini umbrella just in case it rains. One that fits in a book bag or purse. If its not raining, its pretty sunny. Not that much humidity.

Scholarships: So far, I have had no issue with financial aid or scholarships. UF offers many scholarships. Future tips: Apply for any scholarships or grants you can! It's better to have some debt or no debt than debt!

Campus Strictness: The police force, Gainesville PD and UF's PD are great. They are very strict about parking and jay walking. I feel safe when I'm late at night. SNAP is available to drive students to and from places on campus. UF takes their academics very seriously. If you cheat or plagarize, that could be it for you. The heath services offer contraceptives and condoms. There is no drinking or smoking in the dorms. UF is also an no smoking campus. The school is also an open campus.

Scholarships: Scholarships are few and far between at UF. Government aid is the only help that's really available unless you're out of state.

Off-Campus Dining: Off campus dining is my favorite part about Gainesville. I love the little cafe's that serve fresh locally grown produce. The chain restaurants are easily available too but the small restaurants are really what makes dining enjoyable. If I ever come home to visit I instantly miss the food options that are available in Gainesville.

2 College Senior

Campus Dining: The food is greasy and definitely not healthy. All my friends with meal plans gained at least 10 pounds in the first semester. Very happy with my choice to not take that option, I'm healthier and happier because if it today.

Academics: Academics are the focus of most students at UF but at the same time students know how to manage schedules so fun is still attainable and all time isn't spent studying. The professors feel the same, that school is important but so is a balance of all things in daily life.

Facilities: The gyms and activity facilities are wonderful on campus. The equipment is very modern and allows you to get the most out of your workout.

5 College Senior

Weather: Normal Florida weather so it's great almost 100% of the time if you don't mind the heat. The winters aren't freezing so you can still enjoy the outdoors.

4 College Senior

Facilities: Most buildings on campus are very historic, and with historic buildings comes need for repair. The school is working toward making all repairs and updating the interior of buildings.

5 College Senior

Academics: Most professors and teaching assistants care greatly for students. The classes are challenging as well as engaging.

Greek Life: I am a member of Greek Life at UF and couldn't picture my life without it. It really makes a school that is so incredibly large, a lot smaller. Greek Life gives you an opportunity to become involved in all aspects of student life, and always gives you something to do whether it be on weekends or during the week. They encourage involvement and connections. It is like being part of a family.

5 College Junior

Diversity: Every class I have has a very diverse student body. Greek life also has a very diverse student body. There are clubs for all sorts of interests, religions, ethnicities and orientations. I have friends that are very different from me and can be sure to meet more throughout my years at UF.

Facilities: There are athletic centers in very accessible areas throughout the campus as well as a few libraries that is fun and inviting as well as quiet and studious. UF has many great traditions, as I am a tradition keeper, and events are easy to find. Not to mention that UF is a green campus.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: There are many things offered at UF, especially with the new research grants. I hate how some programs have been taken away, like the Korean Language Program, but there's a lot going on in terms of campus life and it's easy to meet people.

Local Atmosphere: There's the university, downtown, and the mall, but no great attractions. It's like a small town- movie theater, some quirky downtown events every now and again, and the mall fifteen minutes away. There isn't any big attractions, clubs, or anything really like that. It's a college town that's quiet except for the games and occasional events.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Public transportation is amazing. There are several buses that run by varying stops. Some buses cross paths so there's never a concern if you miss one bus - there will always be another option. Buses run late on campus and there is SNAP for later/early morning hours between 7 pm - 4 am.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Parking is the worst and expensive to have a permit.

1 College Sophomore

Parking: It's very difficult to find spaces on campus and parking decals are pretty expensive. I would recommend walking or taking a bus.

Majors: I like the Biology major it determines the students who will and who won't be able to have a career in the science field. It is rigorous and when you understand more than other students it gives a sense of pride for learning and knowing more than others. The workload is very difficult but that isn't a problem since challenges are fun, faculty is very helpful in anything you need and there are job fairs for jobs or internships.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I was fairly confused about financial aid as a freshman but after your first semester and visiting the financial aid office you understand it better off and scholarships and grants are very important in college life.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Computers on campus are regular PCs but the printing is really good since you get 150 free pages of printing per semester the wireless speed is average but its due to so many users on it but there is wi-fi everywhere there is a building on campus. The need for a personal computer is key to do your assignments and be mobile wherever you go.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The campus is fairly strict about drug and alcohol abuse. Specially the RA's of the dorms they can get people arrested for drugs and also most people go to judicial housing which is a court that you plead your case.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: The process of getting into my Biology major was easy since the program determines how tough of a student you are. The most important criteria is being able to handle rigorous classes and be sure that you want a career in a science related field if not the major and the "weed-out" classes will break you.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: I plan on having an internship working at a lab or in a hospital since I am planning on going to medical school. An internship will open your connections in the world and networking s key in the real world. I am currently a peer mentor as an undergraduate this is similar to a teaching assistant job.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
