Off-Campus Housing: There is a wide range of off-campus housing available. Where a person lives is really up to him or her and any restrictions, preferences, or requirements he or she might have. My off-campus apartment is close to my classes and my place of work, so it is very convenient for me.

Academics: My major is difficult, especially as an upperclassman with increasingly complex chemistry courses. To succeed as a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major, a person needs to budget his or her time and learn to study effectively. There are many resources at the university, though, to help someone study and learn the more difficult concepts of each course.

Health & Safety: There is a very strong and active police presence on campus with an average response time to an emergency of less than one minute. The police are stern but fair and try to work with students when a problem arises. Their policy is more focused on preventing crime rather than punishment, although they do enforce the letter of the law.

Academics: UF has a wide range of academic subjects available to incoming and transfer students. It is especially strong, though, in science, math, and technology. The professors are accessible and take the time to work well with their students, so even though a particular major or area-of-study might be difficult a student has a high likelihood of at the very least passing in their subject area. There are a wide range of tutoring services offered by the school that are run by or employ students, so a person who might be struggling with a concept has personalized options for receiving assistance.

Athletics: Athletics at UF is the pride of the Gator Nation. Everyone gets so excited for football and tickets through the football lottery are super easy to get. There's also a Rowdy Reptiles program that rewards students for attending and supporting varsity sports other than football.

Off-Campus Dining: Definitely the best thing about the off-campus dining options, is the cost and the hours of operation. Many places that are very close, close around 2 or 3 am. There are a decent amount of options and each restaurant does their best to accommodate everyone. Students also can pay no more than $6-$8 for a meal. Almost everything nearby delivers. Five Star Pizza is open and delivers until 5 AM, so that's definitely something to check out!

Local Atmosphere: Gainesville is a textbook definition of a college town. Everything's centered around the Gators. There's definitely a strong sense of school spirit and there's always something to do. Midtown is right across the street from Murphree area. The area near the school is pretty safe, but cops are more worried about catching underaged drinkers than suspicious people. Going east on University Ave a few blocks away from campus is a pretty sketchy area even during the daytime. Just never go anywhere by yourself.

Campus Housing: I don't give it an A+ because the dorms are ugly. But everything else is great

Local Atmosphere: I personally think Gainesville is ugly and not very safe. It is all about UF and super small. Fortunately there are events and activities organized by the school.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: it's impossible to reach your financial aid counselor.

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: There are a lot of fraternities and sororities to join. In fact, many students are part of one. I find them completely pointless but some people have their lives rotate around them so it depends on what you like.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: there is a lot of technology available to the students but in the afternoons it is hard to find a computer available in the library

4 College Junior

Computers: Computer labs are constantly being renovated. There are many computers available, I've never had to wait to use one.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Feeling of the antiquity of the school is extremely nice and well maintained. Campus is really big meaning it encompasses so many things that can interest any individual. You are bound to be a part of a club. The fact that Shands hospital is literally on campus offers many opportunities for undergraduates looking to be in the medical field such as research opportunities, volunteer work, and paid jobs in their field of interest or labs.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Professors are passionate about their work and care about student's achievement. School is maintained clean and provides a safe environment for students. Reitz student union is being renovated and already houses many student resources such as a career development center and much more. Tons of clubs and numerous school sponsored activities are held throughout each semester.

College Sophomore

Parking: I don't have a car I couldn't say; I prefer to walk and the bus system is amazing.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I would have liked to have received more money, but what can you do.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: People go CRAZY, paint their faces, shout and curSe during all the games, GO GATORS !!!!!

Computers: There are several places where one can study on campus; there are plenty of computers for everyone and always a Starbucks not to far from it for all you all nighter types. :D

Diversity: The school is mostly populated by white people, but is very accepting to all races, religions, sexualities, and nationalities. There are several international students that work and/or attend the university. The university also conducts exchange programs which also brings more diversity to the campus. The one thing that I like best about Florida is that thy give everyone to express themselves. Every culture has a student organization that puts on monthly events to raise cultural awareness. every political belief is free to hand out flyers. An sexual orientation is not an issue, there are clubs, events, and parades that support all sexualities. Florida is the most diverse college, were everyone is accepted for who they are.

Greek Life: Greek life is a huge part of the social atmosphere at Florida. There are several Greek organizations and they all give back to the community. Greek life is viewed highly favorable among non-Greek students. Greek life is a choice and it is not for everyone but it has its benefits. At Florida there are three types of living for Greek housing. There are on-campus housing split between fraternity drive and sorority row. There is also off campus housing that Greek organizations own. Lastly, some Greek students do live in the on-campus dorms that are available to all students.

Off-Campus Housing: Florida has a lot of off-campus housing offers. The more roommates you have the cheaper the rent. You can get room that are styled from studios to four bedrooms. The closer you live to campus the more expensive the rent will be. I have never lived off campus during my undergraduate studies due to convenience and the bus schedule. If you live off-campus you have to live your apartment 30 minutes before your class starts to make sure you arrive on time. Off-campus is safe because most complexes are gated and parking is abundant. Florida is really good at allowing apartment complexes to advertise on campus, so students have off-campus housing information readily available to them.

Local Atmosphere: University of Florida has a great athletics department. The atmosphere at games is very exhilarating especially at football games. UF students can go all games except for football games for free. Students can sign up for the student lottery tickets for football games for about $100 and if you are lucky enough you win 7 tickets to all the home games. You can even sell the tickets and make some extra money. But, I'd rather go to the games. It's great to be a Florida gator! :)

Academics: The professors really help you get interested in a topic and tend to go into great detail because they are so excited about what they are teaching. They make you want to learn more. There were very few days that I dreaded going to class. The workload is manageable and still challenging without being overwhelming. There are always independent study options, study abroad opportunities, and even TA spots open.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking on campus can be crazy! It's hard to find a spot and I know multiple people who have gotten tickets, even multiple ones in the same day!

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
