3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: It is fairly loose in regulating student behavior.

4 College Freshman

Majors: Got into my college as a freshman.

Campus Housing: Off campus is nice too.

Transportation: A bike is all you need.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: There are many cultural events in Gainesville! I love the Gainesville atmosphere because it is so geared towards the school. Game days are super exciting!

5 College Junior

Diversity: Everything is at UF! Turlington and the Plaza of the Americas are free speech zones where people share all of their differences.

4 College Junior

Computers: Each student gets 250 free prints at the Reitz SG Printing Lab! There are also a lot of computers available for use in libraries.

5 College Junior

Academics: Professors are really fair and so is the workload. Studying habits might have to change a little since high school.

3 College Junior

Weather: It rains a lot in Gainesville, so you should always carry an umbrella in your backpack. Rainboots are a great investment!

Majors: I am in the College of Public Health and Health Professions. The faculty are all great and helpful. I think the greatest part about my college is how close it is to UF Health Shands, and the opportunities that come with that. Being so close to where you want to work is an amazing experience and makes it easy to go volunteer in between classes!

College Junior

Majors: I have not had an internship.

Greek Life: Greek life is huge at UF. I rushed, but decided to drop. I do think it is a great outlet to meet other people, but this can be done through other organizations.

Campus Housing: I lived in Broward Hall and the social atmosphere was great! I was in a wing that was not renovated, so the floor was pretty outdated when it came to floors, window panels, and AC. SO close to classes though and great way to figure campus out as a freshman!

Athletics: As a University of Florida graduate, being a gator is not for 4 years but a way of life. Once a gator always a gator. School spirit was through the roof where every sport game had a ton of fans. Especially game days for football. Student involvement is amazing with over 800 clubs to join on campus and some of the biggest philanthropies are hosted at UF, such as Dance Marathon.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
