Drug Safety: Lots of people drink, especially underage. Well, maybe it just seems that way because the people who are always drinking are most likely obnoxiously drunk. UPD and Gainesville PD make it pretty safe though. They don't want to ruin your life--they just want you to be safe.

Majors: I love the psych program!!! Super easy to figure out (I've never seen an adviser). I'm also graduating a semester early, and I have only been in the major for a year (I was microbiology before). Professors are great and there are lots of course offerings.

Parking: There's no point in parking on campus if you're an undergraduate because there is almost nowhere to park and you have to pay for a permit. Take the bus instead (it's free!!!).

Computers: You get 250 free pages of black and white printing at the print lab. The Help Desk can fix most computer issues and problems connecting to the network. Connecting to wifi on campus can be a lengthy and annoying process.

Drug Safety: If you are looking for drugs, you can find it. However, no one is going to peer pressure you to do drugs. Alcohol is a different story. It is much more likely you will get peer pressured to drink.

Local Atmosphere: The atmosphere at UF is standard, there is plenty for people to do which includes night life and hiking, fishing, or boating. There is a museum on campus too, which is pretty neat.

Health & Safety: I had to wait three days for an appointment just for the doctor to neglect testing me for anything and telling me I just had a cold. I ended up getting much sicker because she would not give me medicine.

Parking: It is pretty easy to find a parking spot on campus, and permits are a reasonable price. UFPD is really strict on parking, so if parked in the wrong place, you will be sure to get a ticket. You do not necessarily need a car because there are buses running all the time.

Academics: As a part of the engineering program here at UF, there are so many wonderful opportunities to take! There is a plethora of clubs and organizations for each discipline of engineering that suits the need of each individual. The facilities are great for engineering here. The workload is heavy, but so is engineering anywhere to go.

Academics: The academics at UF are top notch in the state of Florida. many professors came from Ivy League schools, and they do a great job teaching. Registering for classes is pretty simple, you just have to meet with an advisor to ensure you are signing up for the right classes and staying on track, and then you register online. Your workload all depends on your major.

Parking: I HATE PARKING. It is the bane of my existence. Literally, there is never anywhere close to park so you have to park 20 minutes away from where you live and you MIGHT get a spot there. UF needs to improve it's parking situation because it's literally ridiculous.

Overall Experience: I really love UF. I'm a third generation so I had no choice. Gainesville is a place you have to warm up to but it is fun once you know your way around and you meet people.

Off-Campus Dining: The vegan scene in Gainesville is awesome, the TOP is great and most places are relatively inexpensive.

Transportation: Some days, the buses are open and SNAP takes just a few minutes, but if it's cold or raining forget being on time.

3 College Freshman

Weather: The weather stays pretty warm year round, but Florida weather is unpredictable. It could be freezing cold and raining in the morning and then be warm and sunny in the afternoon.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: There are plenty of places very near campus to go out at night, if that is your idea of fun. It is an easy walk from campus, and there are tons of bars and clubs. there are also places downtown which is about 5 or 10 minutes down the road, but buses can take you there.

Guys & Girls: From who I have met, guys at UF are almost always pretty smart and hard working with their major. It all depends on where you meet the guy, though.

3 College Freshman

Majors: There is such a plethora of majors to choose from at UF, it is awesome!

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The food options are pretty limited, and there are no sit down restaurants on campus. UF mostly has fast food places like Chivk-fil-A, Subway, Panda Express, Burger King, and Papa John's.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I did not receive financial aid through UF, only through Bright Futures. UF does not offer many scholarships.

Campus Housing: Housing at UF is great, and the dorms are kept up very well! Working with the Housing Department on campus can be an extreme hassle because they do stay busy. But overall, I have not had too many problems with living on campus.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Although most students bring their own computers, I have never had a problem finding a computer to use on campus if I needed to.

Athletics: The football season at UF was not as great as it been in the past, but students are still extremely involved with supporting the Gator Nation. Students here are very involved with cheering for their school in various sports, and it doesn't hurt that we do pretty well.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: While there are some places that are newer and are being updated/refurbished, it isn't necessarily the best of choices, but still solid

Local Atmosphere: The area is good for college but not many students stay after graduation. In fact, a lot laugh at the idea of remaining here.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
