Greek Life: Greeks inspire the social life at our school. There are so many social Greek organizations, as well business Greek organizations. Greek houses are only giving to the Greek organizations that can afford it and was already built on campus when the school started.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of choices of off campus housing. There is a variety of apartment choices all over the city for different prices and value.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: A school this large has so many options to narrow your social sphere and really settle in socially and academically

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Something for Everyone, Always – There are endless options at UF for whatever your interests are

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Printing Labs Get Crazy at Times – For general computer use there are plenty of options. However, UF has a free printing lab (which is great) but it gets really crowded at times

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Inside Scoop – Many student organizations to choose from, and many opportunities to take part of. You can start an organization on your own or with a group of people. Students can get very involved and it is a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Professors are great overall, some teach you the book, some teach you through real life problems. Registration is flexible and gives the upperclassmen more freedom. Workload can pile up if you do not keep up, but that is normal.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Many selections available, broad range of prices and distance away from campus. Pros include freedom, living on your own, having your own personal space. Cons extra expenses, and inconvenience. Landlords don't bother you unless you are doing something wrong or have not payed your rent. Some places have garaged parking, others allow you to park outside your door. Many fliers are placed around the school in relation to off-campus housing.

Scholarships: Every time I've gone to financial aid in UF the assistance has been amazing. They actually take interest to helping you out. They take their time and look up all of your information so you can have ease of mind. They realize money is a huge issue, just make sure to visit often.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: RTS System – The bus system at UF is very convenient and easy to use. During the week, the buses run till 4 AM and they constantly run; therefore the longest wait is just around 15 minutes. On Sundays there is a lack of buses though. Thankfully, on Saturdays there is the Later Gator which satisfies any needs for clubs/nightlife. Best of all, completely free to students.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Dorms on Campus – You have to come with lowered expectations if you are searching for dorms in college. Thankfully, the dorms at UF are pretty good. It's really simple to make friends and they are all walking-distance to campus.

Weather: So Gainesville during the summer is extremely hot and can be a lot to handle if you are outside all day. Other than that fall is really nice and wind starts to pick up. There are a lot of chilly days during the winter but if you are from up north or mid Florida then you're probably used to it. We tend to get a nice amount of rain but it's very avoidable in the fact that we mostly get rain at night into the morning.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Drinking Is Better Than Drugs – The drug scene at UF isn't big at all people really aren't that into doing drugs like that. There are people that do them but it's not a requirement and you won't be looked down upon for not doing them. A lot of people do drink alcohol and it seems that if you have connections then it's very easy to get, but a lot of people don't drink alcohol on campus because UF has a "no toleration" policy for drugs and underage drinking.

Greek Life: So there are a lot of different frats and sororities for people to get involved with, there are different religious ones, the divine nine, and other regular sororities. I hate to say that the sororities and fraternities are separated by race but they are. It has more to do with the founders of the sororities than them actually being racist or something. The "divine nine" which are nine frats and sororities founded by African Americans and they are predominantly black where as the rest of the frats and sororities are predominantly white or consist of other races. Either way they are very welcoming to new people and most people on campus are fine with them and don't really care what they do. People aren't forced to join one, and if you never want to deal with them the campus is big enough so that you wouldn't have to. The Greek life is popular for some people they do have fun and it can be time consuming but people can definitely be in one or not and it won't matter, but if you are looking for a sister or brotherhood than they are really great.

Parking: Cars Are a Luxury – There isn't a whole lot of parking available and decals are hard to get. Students don't really need a car on campus because the bus system runs pretty regularly and services a slew of locations, but cars are a luxury item and more parking would be nice.

Campus Dining: It Is Great. There are a lot of different options to choose from on campus.

Guys & Girls: Stunning Looks – Although the University of Florida is several hours from the beach, the girls and guys always seem to be beach-ready. The girls are fit and sun-kissed and the guys are all classy and handsome. You really can't beat Ol' Florida, where the girls are the fairest and the boys are the squarest.

Health & Safety: One Safe Campus – I have never heard a complaint about the UF campus being unsafe. The numbers for Campus Security and SNAP (Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol, a service that will escort students to their destination free of charge) are posted in a lot of places and most of campus is pretty well lit.

Local Atmosphere: UF is great in the sense that it's difficult to be bored. It's not only located in downtown Gainesville, it IS downtown Gainesville. The campus is large enough to essentially be its own community populated by on-campus students. The nightlife is terrific; if you're Greek you'll find a party and if you aren't there are clubs scattered around the downtown within a short distance. The UF campus and location are hands down top 10 in the nation for student life.

Campus Strictness: Strictness.. What Strictness? Other than the fact that a person gets a speeding ticket going 1 mph above the speed limit or the occasional get pulled over while riding a bike from not having the proper lights or not stopping at a stop sign, our campus isnt terribly strict. We have frat parties on campus all the time and they never get broken up, & midtown is the most fun place to go which is practically on campus.
I would definitely say that UF is lenient on campus, thankfully!

Athletics: School Spirit – I'm in an international club that socializes with many of the students studying abroad and they have all expressed that the amount of school spirit here is just so much greater than they have ever seen. People wear Gator gear daily, the campus is always painted with orange and blue from all the students clothing. The majority of the students here have tons of school spirit and highly value Gator Sports. Thats definitely one of the many high lights of going to UF

Facilities: I love going to the libraries honestly (kind of strange i know). But when I go to the library I always see lots of people I know because the library, although a place for hard studying, is also a peaceful place on campus to go which is why they are so popular. We have several above average libraries scattered around the campus making it easily accessible from any part of campus. They provide many computers which is convenient and loads of comfortable seating placed nicely in front of windows so I personally never feel trapped inside.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Not Too Difficult – I did not have any personal issues with financial aid, although I am in general confused about my federal loans and how to pay them back, and when. I have heard complaints about long waits, especially in the beginning of the semester, but I expect that would be normal.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: Hot Hot Hot – UF is absolutely scorching and humid when school starts in August, but it cools down mid-November. Its January now and the average is now about 60 degrees. The coldest it has ever been was 30 degrees one night in December. I love the sun though, so I am looking forward to it heating up again. UF is a large campus where walking around is necessary, but there is frequent bus service and many bike lanes.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of Variety, Plus a Vegan Friendly Area! There are three main areas of Gainesville to eat: Archer Road and 34th Street have almost every chain restaurant that I am aware of, from Subway to Waffle House to Bonefish.
Midtown (University Ave) has a lot of places to grab a quick bite, and some extra hunting will reward you with my favorite G-ville secret, Burrito Brothers - must try the guacamole! Also Karma Cream, a completely vegan sweets shop.
Downtown Gainesville is actually pretty cute and has an excellent steakhouse, the BEST sushi spot (The Dragonfly), and an impeccable Italian restaurant called Amelia's. Downtown is a bit pricier than the rest of Gainesville, but it is tasty. There is also a myriad of coffee shops and yummy Mochi frozen yogurt.
If you explore the outskirts of Gainesville you MUST eat at Satchell's Pizza. Incredible atmosphere and excellent pizza.
I am not a vegan, but there are so many options for vegan eaters everywhere I go, as well as almost every type of cuisine.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
