College Junior

Campus Housing: I never received on-campus housing. I lived in an apartment from the get-go.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Like I said earlier, UF and Greek Life are almost synonymous-- you can tell by their looks who is involved in the sororities/fraternities.

3 College Junior

Majors: I wish I enjoyed more classes that are required of me. I sometimes feel as if I am just trying to get through the major, but other times I genuinely like the topics I am studying. In my field it is pretty necessary to achieve a higher degree than a bachelors, so that will have to be completed for me to find success in my field.

3 College Junior

Majors: I faced a challenge of being accepted a semester late than the rest of my peers with whom I graduated with.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: The town is centered around the University. Most of the economy is as well. There are some cool on campus attractions such as shows and museums, but as for the rest of the city, you have to search for much else besides a restaurant or mall.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Plenty of variety, and I am discovering more unheard of places the longer I live in the city.

4 College Junior

Computers: Printing is great on campus-- we get a certain amount of free black and white prints each semester. I have yet to run out of free prints.

College Junior

Drug Safety: I do not do drugs, so I don't know much about the drug scene.

3 College Junior

Transportation: I take the bus to and from campus from my apartment every day. I wish there was a cheaper option for long distance travel, such as a train.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: House parties are always a hit, but downtown/midtown bars seem to be full throughout the week and weekends.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: The process can be kind of long, but every semester I receive the aid I need.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: Academics-wise, I find most of my classes interesting, but some of the politics of UF are a bit irritating. The Greek System essentially rules the school.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: They take the honor code and plagiarism very seriously, but let the students have a social life as well.

2 College Junior

Parking: Any available place to park on campus with an off-campus decal is quite far from the actual hustle and bustle of campus.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Our football team may not have been the best this year, but our basketball team certainly made up for it.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: The buses run about every 15 minutes, so they are a convenient source of transportation.

Overall Experience: I would choose UF again because it is the top school in the state.

Computers: There was one computer lab in particular that I really liked going to.

3 College Freshman

Majors: I enjoy it, the classes can be tough. However, with praying and studying it worked out.

Local Atmosphere: Those who you surround yourself with impact this.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I was shocked to know that some people do it.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: Personally, I dislike the things condoned.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
