Parking: After school hours parking is lifted so you can park wherever, but it can be difficult to find some. On game days however, forget about it. You're better off going into the neighborhoods and paying to park in front of someones house. Campus is so covered with people that you can barely walk.

Campus Dining: Broward Dining Hall – I had the 7-day open access meal plan my first semester. It was convenient to have because I could go into the dining hall and eat however much of whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. It was however also very expensive... They way they advertise it make it sound reasonable, but realistically you dont eat there enough to offset the cost unless you actually eat 4 times a day every day.

Academics: I recently went through the registration process for this coming fall. The best thing to do during this process is know in advance what classes you want to take, but have a list of back up classes in case they are already filled. If you know someone whose registration date has already passed, you could ask them to sign up for classes and save a seat for you until you date comes up.

Scholarships: No problems with financial aid. I have florida bright futures, which pays for my credits.

Drug Safety: Drug Scence – There is a presence of Alcohol, Marijuana, and Ecstasy. If you want to do it, its there, if you dont its not as apparent. There is not high peer pressure.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: During the Fall, the atmosphere of the school is dominated by Gator Football. Every Saturday, there is a huge gameday, bringing in alumni from all over.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: Campus is filled with an ample amount of University of Florida police.

5 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: There endless amounts of off campus apartments, houses, condos, etc. The closer you are to campus the more expensive it is.

4 College Senior

Computers: There are an excess of computers throughout the campus at many libraries. I have never had a problem getting access to a computer with internet.

5 College Senior

Facilities: There is an outside tutoring company called Tutoring Zone, that greatly benefits all students. They hold very beneficial reviews before exams. The social scene is diverse, there is something for everyone from movie theaters, to bars, to clubs, to piano bars. Campus life during the Fall semester is dominated by football, school spirit is everywhere. There are numerous research opportunities here with a brand new large, genetic and cancer facilities.

3 College Senior

Computers: I would say the network is very reliable, and very fast. There is good wireless access in all most every building, but from time to time you come across one classroom where you have none. UF gives each student a certain amount of free printing pages per semester located in the Union. There is a high need for your own computer though.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: I would consider The University of Florida campus and Gainesville as a whole very safe. Like any town/city there are areas that you should stay away from. If you avoid these areas, you will be fine.

5 College Freshman

Academics: Go Gators – The University of Florida is the perfect fit for students that are dedicated in their studies and career path, willing to be an open book and learn something new, able to play hard but work harder, ready for a passionate school spirit, and has an appreciation for diversity

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Timing Is Everything – The people in the office are nice and pretty helpful. Just go during an hour when class is, because it can get busy.

3 College Junior

Weather: When it rains it pours. It is Florida, so it's a little humid. And a lot of times the weather changes between the time you are walking to class and leaving class, but as long as you prepare for it it's fine. But yeah, it stinks to walk in the rain.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: It obviously depends on where you live. There are many apartments that are walking distance to campus, but those are more expensive. Students can ride the bus for free, so there are other apartments farther away that are less expensive.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Buses and Cars – Public transportation is pretty good at UF. they have buses running all over Gainesville and campus leaving every 15 minutes or so. they also have SNAP at night which takes you around campus to ensure safety. You can rent cars if you want but they get pricey. The only negative part is the bus schedule on the weekends. Buses come every hour and they stop early in the evening.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: Weekends Are a Bust Without a Car – For students living off campus, nightlife on the weekends is a bust without a car. There is no transportation to get you to any of the clubs or parties, you cant even get on campus unless you walk. For those who live off campus though, they have plenty of night time fun.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Students at the University of Florida are pretty diverse. There is a large portion of almost every race. We also have several international students that attend here. We are diverse not only in race, but in religion, political beliefs, and economic backgrounds.

4 Recent Alumnus

Parking: I Own a Scooter..I Can Park Anywhere – Owning a scooter is super convenient in Gainesville because I can park just about anywhere. Scooter parking also tends to be right next to my classes.

4 Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: Academics Come First – Greeks are present but academics come first to all the students.

4 Recent Alumnus

Local Atmosphere: College Town in the Country – The locals in Gainesville are strikingly different from the students who attend the University in that they are very "country," whereas most of the students are from busy cities in S. Florida. UF is a party school, but we still are highly ranked because we get our work done before we go celebrate our national championships. There is a lot to do at the University itself, but downdown life is garbage. I.e. I love the University of Florida, but I hate Gainesville, Florida.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: As a freshman, I haven't seen any drugs on campus.

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Sights for Sore Eyes – Girls are typically good looking and well dressed. Boys are about the same, but so far I have not seen anyone who is ridiculously good looking.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Typical and Expensive – All of the restaurants are a little expensive and they are typically pizza or Italian related or asian.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
