Academics: Oppportunities are great, very open to research and investigation. Staff is usually nice. Classes are somtimes too large.

Facilities: Inside Scoop – UF offers anything and everything to students. It is incredibly diverse and students are truly devoted to their study. Pre-med students are highly competitive but knowledgeable. Many volunteer and work opportunities are available. As well as many clubs to participate in. If you find yourself studying too hard, go to Gator Nights, every Friday night there is an opportunity to do fun things for free; movie, food, arts and crafts, games.

Athletics: GO GATORS! UF is known for its' athletics. Half of a major dining hall is devoted to school athletes. Homecoming at UF is the biggest in the United States, lasting for an entire month! Famous singers and comedians come to the school at that time. Nothing here is greater than school spirit!!! Statistically, UF students are rated higher in student happiness and satisfaction. IT'S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!!!!

Diversity: Incredible and overwhelming diverse campus in every sense of the word: Politically, ethnically, economically, socially, religiously, sexually. My first semester I roomed with a wonderful, well-rounded student from Ethiopia and my suite mates were Muslim. One of things that attracted me the most to this school was the diversity. One of my TAs was from Spain and many of my friends were of different ethnicities. The Hub is the main hang out area on campus, where many different groups and clubs on campus do their flyering. There are also many people that do not attend the school who speak publically about many different controversial issues. Everything about the campus is diverse but in a friendly, inviting, and safe environment.

Weather: You better always carry an umbrella with you. It's bound to rain randomly!!!!! Other than that, it's beautiful!!!

Greek Life: If you're not Greek, expect ridicule from all those who are. You'll get called a G.D.I. (goddamn independent)....and you better never wear cargo shorts!!!! It's an even bigger deal if you're a guy. Don't expect to get any attractive or decently nice girls if you're not Greek either (unless you're a D1 athlete). Even if you are an athlete, Greek life will enhance your social status even more. Don't get me wrong, not all fraternities will ridicule you. In general, I highly recommend anyone who attends UF to join a fraternity or sorority if you want to have fun in college.

Facilities: There are a plethora of different recreational and sports facilites. There is one huge gym with 6 sand volleyaball courts, 6 multi-purpose baskteball courts, a huge weightlifting room (there is another one on campus as well), an indoor track, personal training rooms for different classes (yoga, spinning, etc.), countless fields, 4 softball fields, tennis courts, and raquetball courts. There is also a smaller student fitness center with squash courts, more raquetball courts and another basketball court. In addition there are 3 pools around campus plus an entire park off campus--Lake Wauburg--dedicated to students at UF. All around great fitness and recreation facilitie!

Overall Experience: It's Amazing Here! The University of Florida is a fantastic school. The professors are intelligent and the work load is not bad. And the best part of UF is the Graham Center for Public Service. The center hosts amazing speakers and events! If you are looking for a university where you can socialize and work, this is the place.

Drug Safety: Don't Know – I do not associate with people who abuse drugs, therefore I do not know about the scene.

Nightlife: I Don't Party – From what my friends have said there are a lot of parties around here. And they say the clubs are nice. I'm not a party person so I would not know, which is why I'm supplying the answer N/A. My advice would be to skip the parties and study hard.

Campus Housing: Dorms the Size of a Prison Cell – Living on campus was great, you lived right next to all of your classes only requiring a 10 minute walk maximum. It was a great way to meet other students your age to start your college social life. On the other hand, the physical size of the room was difficult to manage. Thankfully, i roomed with a friend from high school so i did not have to deal with living so close to a complete stranger.

Off-Campus Dining: Archer Rd – Archer Rd running parallel to UF's campus has almost every chain restaurant you can think of. There are also many cute privately owned cafes and pizarias nearby as well. There are so many discounts available; at the beginning of every semester all students recieve a coupon book.

Local Atmosphere: The Boring Gainesville – Nothing compares to being raised by South Beach and Las Olas; with all the number one ranked, up-beat restaurants and trendy shopping plazas i could never be more entertained. Gainesville, on the other hand, is very old with not much going on. Other than the college itself and the nightlife, there is nothing else promoting the life in Gainesville.

Off-Campus Housing: Affordable & Beautiful Apartments! Gainesville has a large variety of options when it comes to choosing off campus housing. It is easy to find whatever one is looking for - whether it be a place close to campus or a newly built, fully-furnished unit... or both!

Campus Dining: Great Variety – UF's dining hall food has a good variety of entrees, including healthy items. Unfortunately, the quality of the food could be better. In terms of restaurants, UF has plenty, ranging from fast food (like Chick Fil A) to pizza joints (Papa John's) and restaurants (like Chili's). The number of Starbucks locations is a great plus, because these coffee shops tend to be open late providing students with a boost of energy during late night study hours.

Scholarships: Smooth and Quick – There are multiple options for receiving and applying for financial aid. You can either do it online or go to the Financial Aid Office and consult an expert for fast help.

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: College: Have It Your Way – There is freedom at every corner on campus. Whether you want to express your opinion about a political topic or protest a school decision, you can pretty much do whatever you want. The administrators are not too strict but watch out for the local police.

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Everything You'd Expect – At the University of Florida, there is a wide variety of people. This means that no matter what you're looking for, you can probably find it. The guys display an elegant, Southern charm while the girls maintain the highest standards (unless you join the Greek world).

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: We Emergency call boxes located in several places on campus. We have security that walks around the campus every night in addition to UF's police department roaming the campus. We also have S.N.A.P. which will pick any student up on campus and drive them to another location on campus at night.

Facilities: Each floor you go up, the noise goes down. Open LATE for finals. Can bring food and drink for those long cram sessions during finals.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Lots of buses, they come pretty often especially on campus. Not a lot of service on weekends though, which kind of sucks.

2 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Don't Care Much for Greeks – I find most of the Greek people I meet to be superficial and snobby. They seems to only be able to talk about their Greek functions. I guess if you're into that sort of thing it's cool.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: The downtown area might look pretty ghetto, but it's fun nonetheless. Just make sure to pregame. Parties are pretty legit too. Don't go to midtown if you're under 21 though.

Campus Housing: Campus Hosing – Some of the rooms are full of mold. The dorms are small and uncomfortable, and their roommate matching service is awful

Off-Campus Dining: There are several options right across from campus and I prefer them to on campus eating. The prices on campus are insane. Even our subway doesn't follow the 5$ footlong deal, a sandwhich drink and chips comes close to 10$.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
