Health & Safety: UF has their own campus police. They have plenty of police surveying and patrolling the area, for jaywalkers and cars/scooters/bicycles speeding over 20 mph.

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing selection at UF is quite varied. You have your more high-end apartments/townhouses/houses and you also have your older, less-renovated houses. You generally pay for what you get. The more you pay, the better, and higher quality things are.

Parking: If you have a medical condition...such as asthma...try going to your doctor to get a note and bring it to the medical infirmary at the university to get parking in the orange spaces...

Guys & Girls: Typical Student Look – Looking around at the people on campus, there's a basic standard for what is seen: well-kept. Many different styles, different heights, different weights, different hair colors, different everything. It's nice to see such diversity :)

Campus Dining: Dining Hall Meal Times – The time breakfast is served should definitely be longer, especially on the weekend. This is college: half the student population doesn't wake up til 10:30 AM or even later.

Local Atmosphere: So Much Excitement! Gainesville, FL is an up and coming city that has so much to do; from canoeing/kayaking down the Santa Fe River, to biking around Paynes Prairie, or even the awesome Gator games and events (like Gator Homecoming). There's always something fun and exciting to do.

Facilities: The University of Florida is pretty diverse considering the amount of student that attend this school. The academics are top notch, the university has over 900 clubs for students to get involved in and has lots of programs to promote diversity.

Greek Life: Almost all of the Greeks have houses on campus or very close to campus.

Computers: The computers are very fast and reliable. At the student center there is also free printing which is very helpful and convenient.

Weather: Sun and Fun – LOts of sun makes for more fun. Easy to get around campus when it's nice weather. It's a great place to be when winter hits!

5 College Senior

Nightlife: It's the Good Life – Lots of parties and bar hopping. Lots of fun and laughter with friends. Memories galore!

Diversity: Fairly Diverse Campus – At UF, there seems to be a fairly diverse ethnic population. There are regular events sponsored by the various ethnic groups, and many of them are quite popular.

Campus Strictness: Rules Made Known – Rules are enforced pretty well like the honor code and no smoking on campus.

Drug Safety: Not Too Visible – I am sure it goes on but it is not something I have to worry too much about.

Diversity: A Cluster of People from All Over the World – Campus is very diverse and it is easy to see people speaking in foreign languages. Many people attend from other countries from all sorts of backgrounds so it is very diverse place.

Computers: Lots of Options – Didn't ever need to wait to use a computer...there were a ton of libraries with computers and printers

Nightlife: The Small Town Dilemma – Gainesville is a great town and has a great social life. However it is a small town and compares nothing to cities like New York or Los Angeles. It is not hard to get downtown where all the clubs and bars are but they are starting to become 21 and up admission only making it harder for younger people to even get in.

Off-Campus Housing: Many Varieties – Apartments on campus are blossoming. Many new complexes are being built that are spacious and luxurious. The problem arises in transportation to get to campus, which can take a while. However, the apartments themselves are reasonably cheap, include all necessary amenities and feel like home.

Local Atmosphere: School Pride at Its Best – In my time as a college student and speaking with other college students it becomes clear that every student develops a great sense of pride in where they attend. No better the case then here at the University of Florida, where Orange and Blue are almost the only colors worn by nearly 50,000 students each day in and around Gainesville. Along with school pride, there are many nice places to eat, and great outdoor activities to be a part of in Gainesville Florida.

Overall Experience: GATOR NATION! Aside from getting used to buses when you come from a place where you use your car everyday, UF is the best! I love it! Most of the people are always nice and extremely helpful. If you are new, and you ask for directions, they will point you to the right direction, and some would even walk you there! Being a gator automatically creates a bond between you and your fellow classmates regardless of your background. Professors are the best and are always willing to help you out within limits. I wouldn't change a thing about my experience. If I had to do it all over again, I will become a gator again, and again, and again.

Off-Campus Dining: Dinning options off-campus are several and none of them are too far away from the campus life. However, the variety is mostly among different dinning options and flavors, but not necessarily cultural wise. Diversity is more among chain restaurants such as italian vs mexican, but not authentic foods. But, there are a lot of options even though they are mostly chain. In university alone, you have plenty of choices you can walk to besides the options within campus. Not too bad for a college town.

Transportation: Buses and Walking Are BEST! Transportation options include the bus, buying a parking permit, and walking. For those that live near, walking is great since there are apartment and the doorms that are very close to wherever you need to go on campus. The buses are great! They have buses coming every 5 minutes or so and they are super quick to get you where you need to go, which leviates the whole waking up an hour early just to get to class on time. The parking is useless for someone like me that lives close enough to campus, but not able to park in normal parking because I am an undergraduate student. For those undergrads that live far away, it works because they can do half the distance on their own car and then just park and walk the remainder of the distance or get on the bus and finish the rest. Therefore, for me, it is better to take the bus straight from my apartment complex and walk to class from the bus stop.

Academics: As of right now I am unsure because I'm only taking my core classes.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have never been unsafe on Florida's campus because the police and security is very strict. Also, I use the buddy system where ever I go.

3 College Student

Weather: Be Prepared for Anything! It can be 20 degrees in the morning and 70 by the afternoon in the winter, so be sure to always dress in layers! Also ALWAYS have an umbrella ready in the summer, it will rain at a moment's notice!

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
