Guys & Girls: Ehhh.... Not So Much – The only time I really check guys out is at the Southwest Gym here at UF. It's the main one everyone goes to, but other than that I typically don't see anyone worth looking at around campus. As for girls, I think they have more to offer in looks in comparison to the guys. Honestly, the girls are generally cuter than most of the guys. As for the "type" of people here, you get everything under the sun, seriously. I thought that UF would have a stereotypical student, but really everyone is so different from each other.

Academics: Difficulty and Diversity – There's a few things that come to my mind when I think of the University of Florida. The first is how difficult it is to get a good grade here. There's almost no such thing as an easy A class. Instead most of them are weed-out classes. Second, I think of the great Veterinary School they have here. Hence, why I applied in the first place. They have the second best in the nation behind UC Davis. Lastly, they are extremely diverse. There is no typical UF student or teacher, or class for that matter. You can find so many different classes here- my mom is always telling me how if she went to college here she'd be so excited because of all the random/interesting classes they provide. For example, Bugs and People. I think it's pretty cool. Also, they have 946 current organizations of all kinds, so no one can say that they don't have a niche at UF.

Campus Dining: No Outback, but Manageable – The food isn't the greatest all the time, but it isn't bad either.

Transportation: AS stated before, bus routes run from 6am-2:45am. So being stuck on campus is not possible. The campus also has food everywhere and essential college supplies and copy machines are abundant on campus.

Nightlife: Transportation during the night is essential to college life. UF's transportation runs from early in the morning till about 2-3am. So when I study at the library, I don't have to worry about the time for quiet a while.

Academics: Cominf from a small community college, I was told UF was harsh, the professors didn't care, and the class rooms were filled with a thousand students. However, when I showed up, the classes had max of 70 students and the labs only had 10 students. The professors are exteremly nice and care about the student. Also, the professors begged us to come to their offices to ask questions. Overall, UF's professors are very knowledgable and attending UF is the best experience thus far!!

Health & Safety: On Campus Police Force – There is a very large on campus police force as well as many security measures taken with all the students. There are also many health facilities that are free and welcoming to students.

Academics: Entering Fall 2011 – I'm attending the University of Florida in the fall, so I have not started any classes as of now. However, I have attended my preview to sign up for classes, and there are an abundance opportunities available within my Psychology major as well as on the campus as a whole.

Guys & Girls: Differing Tastes on Campus – At the University of Florida there are a variety of students with different tates and interests in music and dress. There are primarily Caucasian sororities and fraternities who can be counted on to blast country music from their cars. There are also minority fraternities and sororities who listen to music such as hip-hop, R & B, rap, and pop music. On campus there are many international students, mainly Asian and Indian who can be heard speaking in their native languages.

3 College Junior

Diversity: Although there are people of different races, ethnicities and religions, these students make up the minority. The majority of sudents who attend UF are Caucasian Americans. However, on campus I am proud to say that many of the students have groups of friends that are diverse encompassing many different ethnicities and races. There are many different clubs on campus that encourage students of different backgrounds to find common ground.

Academics: I'm part of a new major at the University of florida entitled Pre-Public Health which will focus on issues affeting healthcare. I'm also part of the pre-med program at my school. There are many opportunities to volunteer for a health major at the University of Florida primarily because there is a hospital on campus called Shand's hospital. There students have the opportunity to volunteer or to shadow employees.

Parking: Parking on campus is awful. There are not many spots available to park at and the ones where you can park at are usually so far from your classes that you must take a bus after parking just to get to your class.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: There are many apartments to choose from in Gainesville. You can find apartments close to cammpus, though they are usually expensive. The further you get from campus the cheaper the apartments get. Parking is the biggest hassle in the city so you should get a decal where you live.

Academics: Health Education and Behavior – I'm in the Health and Human Performance college majoring in Health Education and Behavior with a specialization in Health Promotion. This major offers careers in many different job sectors. The professors have experience working in the fields and the curriculum is designed to prepare you for the workforce. There are many internships available through the college both locally and throughout the state.

Facilities: The gyms on campus a big, beautiful, and up to date. The libraries are plentiful, comfortable, and convenient. The union is pretty decent, lots of food options and some decent study space. It would be nice if there were more outlets though!

Academics: The Good and the Bad – I have had many bad professors at UF, some were obnoxious or unhelpful, but most have been great. They respond to e-mails quickly, are flexible with their office hours, and enthusiastic and well-informed in their areas of expertise.

3 College Junior

Weather: Very Hot – It's extremely hot and muggy in the summer. In the winter, it cools down somewhat.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: Strict on Drugs – The campus police are all over drug violations. Most students drink instead.

Transportation: So Many Choices! UF has a great transportation system, plus many other options. The buses hit every dorm on campus, and revolve around almost all student apartments. They are usually prompt, unless there's an excessive amount of traffic or construction. Riding the bus is free for all students with a valid student ID, and you can take the bus almost anywhere in town. Having a car on campus is pretty hard, unless you live on campus, and it's pretty pricey for where you can actually park. Scooters are a great way to get around campus and town. The school is also a stop for long distance travel from Gainesville to Miami so it's a good choice for students from South Florida who are trying to beat the high gas prices and toll prices, $40-50 round trip isn't too bad.

Campus Dining: Get the Right Plan for You – When I lived on campus I had a meal plan that I never got through because there were just too many meals and not enough time to go the dining hall, especially if it was out of the way or between classes. However, with the right plan that doesn't limit you to only the dining halls, you can be sure that you're getting your money's worth on great food all over campus.

Academics: Diverse and Challenging – The school offers a great variety of majors, and the science based majors have a diverse and challenging curriculum. I came to UF because they had the only Nuclear Engineering school in the state, and every professor I've had has been a great help with not only academics but also recommendations for future careers after you graduate.

Overall Experience: I would not trade my experince at the Univeristy of Florida for anything. It has helped me make friendships I know will endure for years. The atmosphere of the entire school swells whenever a football game is ongoing. The city is so passionate about the college. That even street signs are decorated with our school colors. Businesses will proudy sport a gator next to thier name and many places in town will accommodate students with specials. The people here have such a sense of purpose and are so driven to do better because they are a gator and that sense of feeling makes everyone feel like they aren't alone in their journey to become the best they can be.

Campus Strictness: Police on Campus – The University of Florida's Campus is supposed to be Tobacco Free, yet people smoke at the bus stops and walking to classes all the time. They will walk past an officer and they won't say a thing. Also, when it comes to partying or drnking, the cops do not really seem to car. I've seen cops pull over cars that were loaded with people heading to a party or club and they just said to drive safe. I have also witnessed people drunkenly vomiting on the side of the street while a cop just looks the other way. The only thing that they are really strict about is parking since it is so limited. If you have parked anywhere on campus without a decal you are more than likely going to end up with a parking ticket.

Academics: I am currently attending the University of Florida and now, going into my Junior year, have declared Anthropology as my major. It really was not that difficult of a choice because all of my professors have been extremely nice and all the course material that was presented, they presented in very interesting ways. All of them were not just teachers but were either current anthropologists, who would still travel out to Africa to do research, or they retired to teach. Either way they were able to bring first hand experience and stories into the classroom. Some teachers, because of the sheer size of the class, didn't seem as accesible to the students but most other would always encourage to be met with on their office hours and if you did go to visit them, they were almost always thrilled and eager to help.

Campus Housing: Some Are Great While Others Are Rather Simple – The housing was rather boring. There were not many options when it came to on campus housing and all of the layouts were rather bland. The residence halls left a lot to desire. The resources in those halls are fantastic, but the halls themselves were not all that great.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
