Facilities: There are plenty of places to work alone or as part of a group. It is a very comfortable place to be.

Transportation: Buses, Scooters, or Walk – The bus system on and off campus is great, they come by stops frequently and take you anywhere you would need to go. Scooters and Motorcycles are also great options because there is a bunch of scooter parking available and they are much more efficient for a college student and low cost than a car. Walking is also a great option because the campus is not too far to walk.

Academics: Fycs Really Helps to Relate to People – In my major we are learning about the well-being of other people, youth, family, community and society. There are so any great aspects to learn in this class. You learn how to listen to other people and try to relate and help them. I am currently volunteering at a nursing home for this class, so I can see and help the well-being of the elderly. I love that my major shows you how to help people and let you know what goes on in life. Once I get farther in my major I am going to have internship with the children advoacy, so I can speak up for children.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of Options Close to Campus – Near campus there are great places to eat that are excellent prices. Some of the choices are Pita Pit, Relish (hamburger place), Mochi, and great pizza places. Many places are walking distance. The only downside is parking. There isn't very much of it and towing is really strict.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: Go Gators – It's a college town, the students and the residents are all rooting for the same team, majority of the restaurants are Orange & Blue. We just have a great support system :)

Off-Campus Housing: Living in Freedom – Pros of off-campus housing: generally cheaper than living on campus, has better living conditions, individual leases, easy to commute to and fro your destinations, not as strict and there is better parking for guests and residents than on-campus.
Cons of off-campus housing: costly/difficult to impossible to get out of lease without subleasing, easier for packages to be stolen, may live with non-students and waking up a little earlier to get to class.

Facilities: They Have Everything – UF has facilities for anything you can think of. There are more libraries than I can count. Two big gyms on opposite sides of campus. Each dorm community has a specific learning environment that is supposed to help students as well as a study hall. It is very easy to get food from the many restaurants surrounding as well as within campus, and the two major dining halls. The Reitz Union is the center of campus, and not only is it a hotel but also a great place to house functions, conferences and activities, even at the same time. There are many nearby entertainment and interest opportunities as well as some of the greatest health facilities in the country.

4 College Junior

Athletics: Atletics Are a Major Focus – The school thrives on varsity and intramural sports. There is literally a sport for everyone!

5 College Junior

Facilities: The gyms available and workout rooms, as well as sports facilities, athletic training and workout classes are mind-blowing. We even have a private lake with a rock climbing and ropes course available as well as all sorts of water sports. The quality of the facilities are excellent and they are open all the time. you can even get extremely discounted personal training.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: I absolutely love the nursing school here! It is extremely competitive but they were adequately prepare you for your career ahead. I believe that I will be very adequately prepared and can easily get a job after studying at the University of Florida.

Campus Strictness: Just Be Smart – You will be fine as long as you don't do anything stupid. Follow the speed limits and traffic laws on campus and always be sure to park where you are allowed to! Be careful with open containers and as long as you are not out-of-control you will be fine.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Fun for Everyone! Midtown is the easiest place to go if you live on-campus just because it is right across from campus. It offers the best bars and many of them are 18+. House parties off-campus and fraternity houses are always fun and are open to everyone. The club life is a bit lacking but if you know exactly what you like you can find here in Gainesville. The transportation is fantastic, you never have to worry about drinking and driving because our bus system is free for all UF students. If you are not into the partying scene, at the Union every Friday night "Gator Nights" is held. At "Gator Nights" many different fun activities are featured, you can see new movies and free midnight breakfast :)

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Rts Busses Are Awful – my roomate had her toes cut off by the wheel chair ramp

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: Very Diverse – lots of middle eastern and asian people around campus

Off-Campus Housing: Live Off Campus! Living off campus in Gainesville is so easy. Most complexes have free parking and lots of it! There are several bus routes that take you to campus and around Gainesville for free! There are a ton of apartment complexes to choose from and rent is chapter than a dorm!

Weather: It's Florida: August-midOctober will be hot as hell no matter what. When it rains it rains sideways, so invest in some sort of leather footwear or rainboots, and a rain jacket. It gets moderately cold which is nice, and there are some semblance of seasons here.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Definitely a football centered school, with most people loving it. The school also has a lot of other good sports like basketball, but also gymnastics, and other not the norm sports

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Wont Starve – The Dinning Halls are basically something you only do once, and not willingly. You won't ever starve if you get a meal plan, since they always have pizza, cereal, and ice cream, but their fish isn't edible, i don't ask where they got their meat, and often the food gets repetitive.
The on campus dinning that aren't dinning halls are very yummy, especially Panda Express, Subway, Burger king, and Einsteins Bagels.
I was Very angry when they took out Taco Bell

3 College Junior

Scholarships: There are not a lot of options, but if you work hard and are active on campus then there are opportunities.

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: Food is pretty good but it is very expensive, and there are only two halls, the rest are fast food options.

4 College Junior

Computers: Passable, but prevalent. There are computer labs around campus and they are available in all of the libraries.

2 College Senior

Parking: Not Existentt – Best way to get to campus is through the use of public transportation. Parking is far from where the students actually take classes. Permit is not that useful.

5 College Senior

Athletics: There is nothing like being a Florida Gator. So many fans and tailgating is the best.

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Living on campus provides the convenience to walk straight to class. The campus is big so you can keep busy with various activities. Tailgating on the weekends or weekly movies at the union's theatre.

Overall Experience: A Great School That Appeals to Everyone! This school has something for everyone. if you're into sports, UF football and basketball games are an exciting experience and something everyone looks forward to. The school spirit here is amazing and everyone really gets into the game. If you're really into academics, UF offers a lot of challenging courses and can make you forget all about how easy high school was. There's always something to do here to, like GatorNights on Fridays and of course all of the weekend frat parties if you're into that. While a lot of students here do go Greek, their presence is not overwhelming enough that you can still feel comfortable not going Greek and still have fun. Overall I would say that this school has been a great fit for me and I would definitely choose it again if given the chance.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
