Academics: Great Research Oppurtunites – There are a lot of interesting teachers here with interesting research topics. Once you get to know them, they can help you plan out Graduate school.

Campus Dining: Food Is Okay, Bland Flavor – the food selection at the dining halls are numerous but the flavoring isn't great, the food is sometimes bland

Guys & Girls: The sorority girls are nice but they dress very risque on the weekend and give the sororities a bad reputation.

Computers: Computer Loading Start Screen – the computers take a very long time to load while on campus.

Guys & Girls: Girls and Guys – I feel like there are two extremes that make up the majority of the population. There are the the drunk sorority girls, and then the nerdy ones. There are the hot but rude frat boys and the nerdy guys. There are exceptions, but when it comes down to it, its a party school.

Academics: The school offers a ton of majors. Odds are if you are interested in it, they offer it as a major. A big downside is obviously massive class sizes your first two years. There are fantastic professors and not so fantastic professors. The registration process is only which is nice except there are so many students that it can be really hard to get a class you need as a freshman! Which is a pain when you are trying to graduate on time or early and need prereq classes. There is a bit of an overcrowding problem here, but all in all its a very quality school where you will get a good education.

Off-Campus Dining: Better Dining Off Campus – If you're looking for many, fairly cheap options of campus there are a lot to chose from! There are many Mexican options as well as bar and grill types. Some of the best places are La Nopalera, BJ's, Ballyhoo's and The Flying Biscuit!

Athletics: Amazing Athletes – UF does an awesome job recruiting top athletes in all sports. Each sport is almost always ranked in the top 20

Off-Campus Dining: So Many Options to Choose from – There are plenty of different restaurants to choose from that are just walking distance from UF

Campus Strictness: Rules and Regulations – The school does a generally great job of setting guidelines for all students to follow. Although there are several rules, there is no police on your back at all times. The main issue that is addressed is underagad drinking. The campus is a pretty safe place and has well behaved students. There isnt many rebels that causes authority to be stricter than they have to be.

Athletics: THe athletics scholastically, club, and intramural are all great. Student-athlete are all achieving the highest honors in their respected sport. Intramural sports makes it possible for students who were not able to be scholar athletes to enjoy still playing their sport. In addition, there are club sports to keep everyone involved. This is a very sports active school.

Majors: Very Hands on/Applicable Program – I am a Civil Engineering major at the University of Florida. I love it. Most of my classes, especially now that I am a Junior and in my major classes, are practical things that I would need to know. As in every college, there are some not so great professors, but in general, I like my professors. This semester I have some whom I absolutely love. All are highly qualified and available to help. I study a lot. However, I still am able to make time to do other things. It is not an unbearable work load, but it is heavier than other non-engineering or non pre-professional majors. Internship opportunities are plentiful, alumni love Gators. Facilities are good, they aren't the most technologically advanced, but they are more than adequate. Overall, I think it is a great program and I am very happy in it.

Overall Experience: Gator Pride Is Intoxicating – Before I came to UF, I thought that the "Gator Nation" was just some kind of gimmick. I didn't understand the spirit of this campus. But there is such a rush of joy when I'm at a football game and see everyone decked out in orange and blue cheering for a common goal. I love the school here. I am an engineering student and I have had some really awesome professors. I study a lot, but I also have time to be a part of the crew team, a club sport provided through our recreational sports program. There is an energy throughout the college. Everyone is always doing something and in general, we are all happy, diligent, and dedicated. Our school pride can tend to be annoying to others, but oh well! Go Gators!

Computers: University of Florida has about 9 circa computer labs. They are spaced throughout campus. We have free printing at our student union, up to 250 pages per student, which turns out to be a lot. It's pretty easy to get help or computer assistance with whatever you need. WiFi is all over the place and it's fast and reliable. A personal computer is very useful because of its portability, but not absolutely essential.

Campus Strictness: Punishments Are Normal – Police are fairly strict about underage drinking and professors will not tolerate cheating or plagiarism.

Computers: Campus offers various computer labs and up to date software. Plenty of computers are available at the libraries on campus.

Health & Safety: Safety and Security on Campus – I always feel safe when walking around campus. Campus police are usually patrolling close by and there are emergency phones set up in various areas around campus.

Off-Campus Dining: Downtown Within Walking Distance Eateries – The best places to find food off campus is definitely in downtown, which is within walking distance of the corner of campus on 13th street. Along University Ave. you will find many restaurants including Chipotle, Mochi, Red Mango, The Italian Gator, Leonardo's By The Slice, Taco Bell, and many locally owned restaurants that are affordable to the college student and just a walk away from campus. Check out Leonardo's by the Slice for delicious New York Style pizzas for only 2.95 a slice, and they're huge!

Majors: Pharmacy Program Is Awesome! I am very content with the major that I picked which was pre-pharmacy. The courses really prepare you for the real program. It is now the real world, and you have to do a lot of independent work. The grade you earn is based off of how much time and effort you put into the course. Being in college has made me realize that nothing will come easy and that you have to work for it. Yes, if I could do it all over again, I would. Right now, I'm pursuing a career in retail pharmacy. I do not have much concern about finding a job in my field since it is predicted that I will have plenty of job opportunities available after college.

Drug Safety: Drug Use Is Very Limited. Here at the University of Florida, public drug use is very limited. People here do not usually use drugs in public and campus is very safe. I could imagine there being an abundant amount of drinkers as compared to smokers. If there are smokers, they would just usually smoke cigarettes. All in all, the campus is pretty safe from public drinkers and smokers.

Facilities: The athletic centers here at the university are top-notch. They provide a variety of people to come and participate in physical fitness. The recereation centers aren't limited to anybody and the best part is that the equipment is free for student use. No expensive membership is required which makes college life better. The equipment is modern and one can always find people to work out with. In addition, the recreation center is always open late, usually up to 1 AM on weekdays and they are open early in the morning, at around 6 AM.

Transportation: No Cars but Buses Are Good – Parking is awful while decals are in effect and strictly enforced. I received a warning for one of my tires touching the line when I parked. Most people would love a scooter or vespa. Bikes are popular but you can get a ticket for numerous things when riding one. Buses are reliable and always running.

Off-Campus Housing: Unfair Housing – In gainesville, if you want to live close to campus, expect an old crappy building and/or outrageous prices. As you go further away things get nicer but do not expect to walk to campus or catch the first bus.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
