Transportation: Buses Are Good and Bad – The buses run everywhere so that makes it really convenient. However, if you miss the first bus, you risk being late to class because you wait, at maximum, 25 minutes for the next one to arrive. Also, sometimes the buses are extremely crowded and full and so you either stand squished uncomfortably to the person next to you, or you have to wait for the next one.

Local Atmosphere: Very Easy to Get Around – Gainesville RTS makes it so easy to get around town. However, it is a bit limited and there are many of the same things. Many events occur on-campus and the gyms are great, so I find myself hanging out with people on-campus or in their apartments that are a bus ride away. It is a bit expensive to go out but the atmosphere is friendly since everyone is a Gator fan !

Off-Campus Housing: Although the housing off-campus is relatively cheap, easy to find, and have good transportation systems to and from campus, they are a bit unsafe and can be a bit intimidating to live in. If people living on-campus worry about the shootings, batteries, rape, etc happening on-campus, I cannot imagine what people off-campus must feel !

Overall Experience: Best Value – I love the University of Florida. The classes are difficult, the social scene is one of the best in the country and you get the best education for the little you have to pay to go here. The sports teams are always good and there is ample opportunity to do fun things.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking is not a good thing at all. Its always easier to take the bus then have to find a parking spot on campus. Its also cheaper since parking decals cost over $100.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The whole town has a down to earth feel to it. The downtown is what you expect from a southern town but its new construction has stretched the town so that it appears much larger. There are many eateries that are just amazing and UF has many great sports teams to root on.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Not at All. It's a little folder than I'm used too but I enjoy it. It also rains a lot and that makes it colder. If you have an umbrellla with you and a jackt, it's not bad at all

1 College Freshman

Parking: Horrible. Never enough available parking spots and with the types of decals you can only park in certain places.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: They are pretty up front and clear about what will happen if you are caught drinking, and they enforce it do fairly.

4 College Freshman

Majors: Very Satisfied – I overwhelmed at the vast number of engineering degrees at UF! Not only was I able to find a major to my liking, but UF made it very easy to find the right one. And its easy! You will definitely find the right for you at UF.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: I Am Very Fortunate – I was fortunate enough to receive a full scholarship to the University of Florida, which was a big relief to me considering my lack of resources to pay for college. I did however, run in to a few roadblocks, but it was something that could have been prevented anyway.

Nightlife: To be honest, going out at night to parties or clubs and bars was not a big thing this past semester. I have gone out with friends on some occasions, but in general, I would give nightlife in Gainesville an average score, as it is hardly any different from my hometown with even less variety.

College Freshman

Greek Life: No Opinion – I know little to nothing about the Greek life. Never have been interested and have never encountered someone in it enough to know about it.

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drug Scene – Although I have seen drug and alcohol consumption on the outskirts of town, UF has always proved to be clean of any kind of activity.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: A Mix – I've seen that the majority of students are white. Yet there are plenty of Asians, African Americans, and Hispanics as well. Since I live in the International dorm I am well acquainted with all the foreigners and I can say that they have never had a problem with anyone before.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: At the beginning of every semester, rest assured that students at UF will be handed out all sorts of coupon booklets specific to off-campus dining options. With the fact that the city of Gainesville is relatively small with several free transportation systems available to students, the additional advantage of student discounts and plentiful coupons are enough motivation to send us out for lunch.

Facilities: General Campus Aesthetics – The extensive, intricate gardening and brick buildings give UF a welcoming feel. The UF campus always looks in great condition, and with that comes a positive outlook for the day. Even on rainy days, the beauty of my school motivates me to get to class and carry on with the day.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: A Lot of Everything – From the physical programs that are free at the two gyms, to the one of many specialized libraries on campus the University of Florida has something for everyone. The campus and surrounding area is beautiful and well designed. The school is even pushing to being a "greener" school. Everything I need is easily reachable in the campus or the surrounding area in Gainesville.

3 College Student

Parking: Parking requires many decals but older students get priority

4 College Student

Computers: Printing Lab – You can get free printing for 250-300 pages of papers. Some labs are open until 10 pm.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love UF. Although I had a little trouble my first semester, my social life distracted me from my academics. But I think I am more balanced now and I'm enjoying everything UF has to offer. I love the people, my classes, etc. It's GREAT to be a Florida Gator.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The campus strictness I think is pretty good. From what I've experienced, the police force are looking out for the students' best interest. No "police brutality" or anything of that sort. If you get caught doing something you shouldn't be doing, the authorities usually let you off with a warning the first time.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Young and Trendy – There are many restaurants and eateries around campus. There are many cheap and affordable places for college students. Many are trendy and lively. Some close a bit too early considering it's in a college town but overall there are good off campus dining options.

3 College Junior

Facilities: Nice College Town – Gainesville revolves around UF so it's easy to integrate into the community.

4 College Junior

Athletics: Go Gators!! Football is huge at UF. Everyone wants to go to the games to cheer on the gators. Other sports are also fun to attned.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
