Athletics: University of Florida and it's athletics are top-notch, not to mention the school spirit! ("If you're not a Gator, you're gator bait!") Game days are always packed, even after Time Tebow graduated, and the streets run orange and blue. Our teams are decent, especially men's basketball this year.

Campus Strictness: Most of the activity I have observed is of traffic, with the speed limit and bikers in the correct bike lane.

Weather: The weather is beautiful in the winter time, usually between the 50s and 60s. However it could go down as low as the 30s or as high as the 70s. The summer is brutal though, since there are no oceans around campus, it becomes very humid and hot. The fall and spring are pretty much alike, usually ranging in the 70s. The weather in Florida is always flucuating so it can be a beautiful sunny morning and two hours later there is a downpour.

Computers: I am definitely very happy that I have my own computer at school, given that the libraries are usually very crowded and there are only a limited amount of computers there. Thankfully, there is wireless internet all throughout the campus, so we are able to do work anywhere on campus. Owning a computer would be the most convenient.

Athletics: The University of Florida has mostly (if not all) Division I sports, and we have won numerous championships in all sports. The Gator Nation is one of the biggest school-spirited campuses in the country. With that, the school keeps the athletic facilities up to date. All sports events have a high fan base (especially the football games). Also, there a variety of intramural sports played throughout the entire year.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: All around campus are places that would fulfill almost anyone's craving. Munchies 420 is perfect if you and your friends are craving a late night snack, while Pita Pit offers a variety of healthy foods. No matter what you crave there is a place to serve you.

Athletics: The main sports, such as men's football and basketball, are massively popular. During the fall, everyone goes to the football games and game days are a big deal with tailgates for greek life and also everyone else. IM sports are popular as well with tons of different sports available at Recreational or Competitive level. There are several gyms that all have nice equipment and are available for use by students and faculty.

Health & Safety: There's police almost everywhere you look. At night they patrol the streets at time and there's security...even at the library. I feel safe walking alone at night even though it's not recommended

3 College Freshman

Computers: They work well. I've only used the ones at the printing lab. They aren't that slow and they get things done

2 College Freshman

Weather: I'm from Miami so I'm used to very warm weather. To me it get very cold. It rains a lot in summer/fall and it can get very gloomy. When it's sunny its great!

Off-Campus Housing: Pros are that you're able to have your own place that doesn't have as strict guidelines and that you have more freedom. Also, you become more independent and are able to personalize your place more.
Cons include having a farther distance to classes, gyms, etc. also the prices may be more expensive if you want a nice place

Campus Housing: Some of the campus housing is good on campus especially the ones with their own bathrooms in them like Hume and Beaty. I remember having friends in the other dorms and during the weekends when their bathrooms wouldn't be cleaned they would be pretty disgusting.

Athletics: The school spirit here at UF is amazing! Every football and men's basketball game is always packed with enthusiastic fans who get there hours before the game to cheerfully support their team. Even sports like gymnastics, which aren't usually well-attended meets in other schools get their share of fans here.

Parking: At UF, the parking is terrible, mostly because they give out a lot more parking passes than there are actual spots. Plus, a lot of the parking spaces are restricted to upperclassmen or faculty so the parking you will get as an underclassmen is usually very far away from your classes.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The campus isn't very strict, it's rather straightforward. Just don't do anything illegal.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: The transportation system is really well thought out in Gainesville. There are several buses that reach every part of campus every five to ten minutes. There are also 15 minute buses that go further off campus to apartment complexes and the airport as well. Another good service is SNAP (Student Night Auxiliary Patrol) that will drive you anywhere on campus after calling them. Both of these transportation types are free.

1 College Sophomore

Parking: If you have less than 60 credits, you can forget about finding a spot. Decals are given out based on how many credits you have. If you live off-campus, don't even think about driving to class

5 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life has decreased the size of a relatively large campus. I have a place to call home, a support system. Greek life provides me with opportunities to get involved in school organizations as well as in community service. Of course, the parties are a perk too

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Students like riding the bus because there isn't a lot of parking on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The professors are very knowledgeable in the subjects they are teaching.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The academics at the University of Florida are very good! The classes aren't too hard but students definitely have to work for a good grade.

3 College Senior

Nightlife: There's two areas you can go to: midtown or downtown. Midtown is cheaper and right across from campus. Downtown is about a mile or so away from campus.

4 College Senior

Guys & Girls: At such a big school you get people from every stereotype. I'm in a sorority so most of the people I'm around are very preppy.

4 College Senior

Academics: Nursing major at University of Florida. Loved the program, wish the classes were a bit smaller though.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There is a wide variety of restaurants around the city of Gainesville for students to choose from. There are also restaurants that are specific to Gainesville which gives students a sense of closeness.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
