Greek Life: I have made some of my closest friends through my sorority. everyone is very welcoming and doing rush second semester makes it easy to adjust to college and make your own friends.

Campus Housing: There is nothing like the ghetto. It truly represents the community aspect of UD and brings everyone together.

Facilities: This is by far the most well-kept campus. The grounds crew is awesome and the facilities are kept clean and are very modern

Campus Strictness: They are becoming more strict, especially with the visitor policies. it's annoying and most of campus police are rude

Local Atmosphere: Dayton is a fun place and its awesome to get off campus and enjoy what it has to offer. However, transportation can be an issue if you don't have a car

Diversity: We are not a super diverse campus, but we are super accepting! Most of the campus is white, middle-upper class, conservative, and straight. However, there are many people who differ completely from these and are just as accepted and well-fit for UD

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Fun to watch sports and the crowd gets super involved. Had more fun watching games at bars with friends than actual games. Not everything which is nice if you aren't into sports

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Mostly chains, but checking out the local Butter Cafe for breakfast or lunch is a must!

Campus Strictness: The administration has some dumb rules, like having to check in after hours instead of just using your card to get in the dorms but they can be easily avoided by having someone let you in one of the side doors. Overall the rules are in place to keep students safe instead of getting them in trouble and rooms still have 24 hour visitation as long as you register your guest. Dayton does take academic honesty very seriously.

Health & Safety: Dayton is a very safe campus and the majority of the campus police are there to keep people safe vs getting people in trouble however the same can not be said for the the city of Dayton police.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: I think the one thing that Dayton lacks is diversity. To be honest, there is not a lot of socioeconomic or racial diversity on campus.

5 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The guys at Dayton are very nice and most of them are also very attractive. If you're into hooking up then there is plenty of opportunity for that but many students also pursue more serious relationships as well. You will most likely find whatever you're looking for.

Campus Housing: The student neighborhood is really what makes UD unique. All the surrounding houses in the Ghetto, the Darkside, and the Far Side are owned by the university or landlords who agree to only rent to students which gives Dayton a unique atmosphere. The lottery process is long but is worth it in the end. There are houses and apartments for juniors and seniors, apartments and suites for sophomores and traditional doubles for freshman.

Campus Dining: We were recently ranked as having the 19th best campus food in the US by the Princeton Review. Both healthy food and unhealthy food is widely available and most of it is delicious. We have sushi and Mongolian grill available every night as well as salads, pizza, burgers and pasta.

Off-Campus Housing: While there are some decent landlord houses, most of the houses located in the student neighborhood are owned by the university. Some opt for a landlord house but most people usually just stick to campus housing.

Overall Experience: Choosing to go to UD was probably the best decision I ever made. You will hear the word community a billion times during your campus tour but that really is the best word to describe Dayton. I have never been to a place where there are so many friendly people. I feel like I make new friends all the time no matter where I am and everyone is so nice. It really is the happiest place on earth.

Overall Experience: Career Services is a great resource. They send out regular "Hire a Flyer" emails that have listings from all kinds of companies from local businesses to Fortune 500 companies and will also meet with students to discuss career interests. Internships and jobs are available at GE and Procter and Gamble located in nearby Cincinnati as well as all over the country. Dayton has an impressive alumni network and many seek out flyer graduates to hire.

Athletics: The most popular sport on campus by far is basketball, especially after making it into the elite eight this past year. Seats for basketball are determined by how many other sporting events are attended throughout the year so this helps boost attendance for other sporting events. Intermurals are huge at UD, almost everyone I know was on at least one intermural team. I play a varsity sport and still played other sports on intermural teams. The university has a giant complex called Stuart Field that is only used by club and intermural teams so they do not have to compete for space with varsity teams and our Rec Plex, or student recreation center is one of the nicest in the country.

Scholarships: Dayton tries to be fair and give as much money as possible to their students, however a private education can be very expensive. Apply early and make sure to meet with someone from financial aid. The lady I met with helped me find an extra 5,000 dollars every semester that I didn't know I qualified for. The university does do it's best to work with you to make your education affordable.

Nightlife: While the bar scene at Dayton is not huge, there are still several bars that students will often frequent, especially during the week. Milano's is a favorite of the upperclassman students, while bargos like Bargo's and Fieldhouse are more popular with the under 21 crowd and have a reputation for being lenient. Tim's draws a younger crowd every Thursday because it's 18 and up. A fake ID may be nice to have but definitely isn't a necessity to have fun. Dayton is primarily known for their house parties. The idea of community among the students is apparent; pretty much anyone can walk up to a party and be given a beer and good time. St. Patty's day is a huge day drinking event and the riots during the NCAA tournament last year made national news. Flyers definitely know how to have a good time!

Facilities: While the football team shares the field with a local high school, UD Arena more than makes up for the lack of a giant football stadium. It is one of the nicest places to watch a basketball game, which is why some of the opening round games of the NCAA tournament are played there every year. The Frericks and Cronin Center host the volleyball court as well as practice and weight rooms for the other athletic teams. Kennedy Student Union hosts a small bowling alley, a dining hall, an ice cream shop and places to study and the library has seven floors with a little coffee shop and meeting rooms in the basement.

Majors: There is a great variety of majors to choose from and very easy to switch majors. I switched majors three times before I really figured out what I wanted to do and each time the process was quick and painless. An upperclassman I know switched from being a music major to an exercise physiology major during her sophomore year and is still on track to graduate on time. All the advisors work hard to help make sure you graduate after four years.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: While I personally have not had an internship yet, I have heard great things about the internships offered through the university. Students periodically receive "Hire a Flyer" emails which advertise both internships and full time positions available through the University's Career Services Center so it appears that internships are available for students who want them. Co-ops are also available for certain majors.
