4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Constant construction of new off campus housing makes it easy to get a nice apartment

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: We have "greek row" with all of the houses conglomerated

5 College Freshman

Diversity: Rarely any classes with a majority of a certain race

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: House parties close by campus, bars/clubs also close by with bus system

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: There are a lot of services and stations around campus to help keep students safe. Emergency poles are everywhere and can be pressed at anytime to alert the police. I personally don't like walking alone at night on campus but if you are in a group it is fine. Not much crime occurs on campus except for a few incidences in the garages. There is a student escort service that can be called at anytime to assist you getting across campus during anytime.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: Alcohol is allowed on campus for tailgating which can be problematic but UCF police does crack down hard on the situation. The drug scene is not really out in the open, but more than likely exists. Overall the campus is a very safe place to be and drugs and alcohol abuse are taken very seriously by the college.

4 College Senior

Athletics: If you are really enjoy the college sports team part of college then UCF is getting big. I personally do not enjoy sports but with our current wins we are becoming more and more popular and thus the games are getting more interesting. School spirit is high here.

College Senior

Nightlife: I personally am not a big fan of the nightlife but I know that there are a lot of options for students to choose from.

3 College Senior

Weather: Sometimes it can be really, really hot (Florida) but I am a born and raised Floridian so it doesn't affect me as much. It can get a little cold, especially during early January and February.

College Senior

Scholarships: I was lucky enough to not have to deal with financial aid during my undergrad. However, I have tried calling the office a few times and it is very busy , so get in early or expect to be waiting a while.

3 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: It really depends on if you like big cities. Orlando has a lot of attractions (Woo Disney!) and food options. Nightlife is really diverse. However, there are a lot of tourists (not really in the UCF area but around the area for sure). Traffic can be a pain at times but you learn the flow. Lots of diversity, lots of people.

4 College Senior

Computers: The campus has a few different wifi connection specifically for students. It can be slow at time, due to the abundance of students, but nothing that will prevent you from getting work done. There are a lot of computer labs but they fill up quickly so having your own computer is very important.

4 College Senior

Academics: Within my own department, I have found the professors to be very accommodating to students. The college offers free tutoring for gen ed classes and tries to help students in any way they can. There are a wide variety of classes with amazing teachers who truly want to see students grow.

4 College Senior

Diversity: Due to the large number of attending student there is a ton of diversity. Everyone can find a club, activity, or society that best fits their needs or interests.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Orlando is a very diverse place and as such you can find everything from family owned joints to your typical chains. A lot of places (especially the family owned ones) have amazing deals for students and offer discounts. If you are willing to take a bit of a drive you can find anything you are really interested in ( such as different ethnic foods, vegan/vegetarian options, etc.).

4 College Junior

Athletics: The athletics are very good. There is a huge variety for both men and women and the facilities are kept very clean and well maintained. The football team has been very successful recently so those games are becoming very popular on campus.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: The safety on campus is very good. They have police all around and it should be no problem to find someone to help if you need it. The only concern is in the parking garages. The school insists that you take anything valuable out of your car and to make sure your doors are locked.

Off-Campus Housing: The off-campus housing is all about finding the right match. There are many places to live around UCF, but they can get very expensive and the living space can be very small. My suggestion is to start looking for off-campus housing early so you can find a good deal instead of rushing and ending up paying a lot for a little place to live in.

Majors: The process of getting into my major was easy. This was probably because I was a transfer student. For a transfer student, the only hard part is making sure you have all the necessary classes to transfer over to the new college.

Majors: The engineering program at my school is very good. The staff is very helpful and the teachers are very knowledgeable and teach you in a way that will help you once you get a job. There are a lot of opportunities for internships and teachers are willing to help with recommendation letters. The engineering program is one of the best in the school.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: Greek members are treated just like non-Greek members. They do have their own area for living and they have their own events that are thrown throughout the school year, but other than that, they are just like normal students.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: The school is very careful about it's policy dealing with drugs and alcohol. The school has it's own police that patrol the grounds and most students are on their best behavior. However, off the grounds it is very easy to get alcohol.

Transportation: The transportation options are good. They have a good bus schedule and route with multiple buses coming and going throughout the day and night. They have shuttles affiliated with the school for students who live close by and regular buses also make stops in the area. The school itself is small enough to walk around and most students use skateboards or bikes.

Scholarships: The financial aid process is okay. The biggest tip I have is if you have any questions to go in and ask them directly to the financial aid staff. This is better than waiting on the phone. Also, make sure you bring as much paperwork as you can so you can get the help you need.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: I prefer to live off campus, because it is more convenient for me and i do not have to worry about having to deal with roommates that are either messy, loud, or possible drug dealers. I can keep things the way i want, unfortunately, the cost is horrible and the quality is below par.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
