5 College Sophomore

Weather: Sunny and beautiful most of the time. Tanning by the pool is a regular activity for most of us. It rains in the summer but that's normal, and we work around it.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Nothing Hardcore – Pot is available. For something more hardcore, you would have to really search for it. Drinking and smoking ar pretty popular activities. nbd.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Free Drinks Every Night – Local bars are poppin every night of the week. Cover is typically $5-10 and they have drink specials every night- usually free drinks until midnight. And no one cares about underage drinking. Any fake ID, no matter how bad it looks, will do.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: During orientation diversity was something that UCF felt was very important, they focused on it a lot. They make all students feel welcomed and accepted.

Off-Campus Dining: There are some good resturants off campus, like Panera Bread and a lot of them offer student discounts if you have your id card.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: New Dorms Are Good but Expensive, Older Dorms Are Awful – The "older" dorms for underclassmen are quite awful. They are very old and not up kept very well. The other "newer" dorms are beautiful but extraordinarily expensive and inconvenient. They are very close to classes but robberies and safety are really a concern. Besides the fact that they are often crowded with non residents visiting their friends, parking is atrocious and the wait list takes forever...

Facilities: Being a large university the facilities at the University of Central Florida are really state of the art. They are constantly expanding and renovating. The gym is large, but it is often quite crowded due to the sheer amount of students. Students often go there for social reasons too, to be seen working out and to talk to other students. The library is beautiful. It is newly renovated with plenty of seating and 5 floors. I like studying there because there are lots of options, the first few floors are not restricted noise wise and several are, so you can find the places that work for your own study preferences. The bookstore is really accessible and carries most everything you could ever need. There are plenty of places to eat, hang out and study.

3 College Senior

Parking: no matter how many garages are built you still spend at least 30 minutes trying to find a parking space in the middle of the afternoon

3 College Senior

Athletics: Athletics are a big part of campus, if you dont like athletics ucf will make you

5 College Senior

Facilities: UCF is the second largest school in the nations which should speak for itself. Students come together for sporting events with tons of school spirit an bring a fun atmosphere. There are so many activities to do off campus clubs to join on campus. The staff is very helpful and patient with the students, making different processes easier than normal.

4 College Senior

Transportation: The school transportation is great. There are many ways to get to campus by bus and shuttles that they provide.

5 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: The off-campus housing is amazing! There are so many student apartments to live in. The costs sometimes can be high but depending on the quality of the housing, it's worth it. The school is very helpful with off-campus living, they automatically send out packets for different apartments once you've applied.

Greek Life: Very Blended – With such a large school, everyone belongs to some club/organization or the other. The greek life is pretty blended in with the rest of the student population. Just about everyone knows someone in each social circle.

3 College Freshman

Computers: Great Network – All of the computers on campus that I have used are PCs, all no more than a few years old, and the network is fairly fast. There are a ton of labs to work at, and you cam print up to 20 pages black and white a day. Most people have their own laptops/netbooks, but use the labs during finals/projects/papers to study with other people.

Local Atmosphere: Laid-Back but Fun – UCF is in Orlando, and there are all of the tourist attractions, like Disney, Universal, etc. There is also great food and other entertainment, and is about an hour and a half from the beach. The area around the school is mainly college undergrads and grad students, recent alumni, and young couples. There are a ton of sports and wellness facilities in the area. For a large city, the area is very safe. The UCF police are always around the immediate area, and the local police are very visible as well.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: Somewhat Helpful – There is a financial aid page on the school's main website that lists a lot of available scholarships and links to the scholarships on their site.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I am an out-of-state student at UCF and although being far away from home can be difficult, I would not choose another school to attend. From the social life to the ammenities for students, UCF truly is a dream come true. Living in Orlando is great because there is always something to do and the large size of the school make it impossible to not become involved with something.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The dorm that I chose to live in as a freshman was the closest to the pool and gym, which were two major factors in choosing UCF to pursue my education. I particapted in a living community called "Nursing @ Nike". This program consisted of all nursing students living on one floor in order to help each other study and become more succesful in our majors.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: This school's academic opportunities are enormous. Because it is such a large school, the sky truly is the limit. The Professors that I had this year were very understanding to their audiences and I found that I could go to any of them with a question. However, because most of my classes were so large, there were also plenty of extra help programs.

Off-Campus Housing: Many Options, but Have a Car. There are many off campus alternatives around UCF for students. Many of them are within walking distance of campus, but be willing to spend a lot. A room that is basically the same as dorm (and you will be sharing it) will cost you about $700 a month. However, they come with shuttles that will take you most places you need to go, secure parking, and activities.
If you go a little further you can find more. Real apartments with the usual apartment layouts (1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, with living room and kitchen) can run you about $800 a month. You are still close enough to campus that a short bus ride will get you to campus or college night at the local hangouts.
Should you decide to venture even further out into the other areas of Orlando (such as Pine Castle, Metrowest, or Winter Park) you will be able to find even more affordable apartments. I live in the Pine Castle area and I am renting a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom 1200 square foot apartment with 22 foot vaulted ceilings for only $795 a month. However, to live this far out you MUST HAVE A CAR!
If you don't want to go that far, but you aren't feeling the areas closer to UCF, try downtown. There are all types of options available. A 1 bedroom 1 bath is probably going to run you $700-1000 a month which may or may not cover parking. There are also plenty of houses for rent in the area that can be the same price for more space and privacy. But, just like the are I live in, YOU MUST HAVE A CAR!

Local Atmosphere: Kinda Lame-Ish Area – Although UCF is in Orlando, it is on the far side away from the theme parks and social life of downtown. There are plenty of cheesy chain restaurants all around campus; such as Applebee's, Chili's, McDonalds, Friendly's, etc. Also, there's plenty of shopping within walking distance of campus. They have many cafes, grocery stores, thrift shops, and things of that nature. Many of the places around campus do participate in College Night and do their best to make it as eventful as going to the clubs of downtown. However, they are not downtown...

Greek Life: At UCF Greek life is a big deal. The Greek housing is closer to the campus hotspots and well maintained. The Greek students are always with each other and hanging in these cliques that make non-Greeks feel like outsiders. In class Greeks expect everyone to understand what they mean when the talk about their homecoming activities or rush week or whatever else non-Greeks could care less about.
As a non-Greek I don't have any issues with Greeks. If I had gone to college straight out of high school and had parents that could have afforded for me to drink their money away, I would probably have become a Greek. However, that is not the situation. I am an adult with responsibilities. Not only that, I am also paying for my own education. I don't have the money to waste on a $700 class that I was too drunk to attend. I also don't have the extra money needed for all the fees and requirements of being a Greek.

3 College Senior

Weather: We our in that time frame where it rains almost everyday here but that is nothing out of the ordinary. I just throw on a hoodie and deal with it, I much rather have an open campus than one that is all confined inside.

3 College Senior

Guys & Girls: Our Students – There are people here from all over the world so everyone is unique in their own way. I wouldn't really seperate people into categories or anything, everyone does have their clicks and believes in different things but that is what makes it better. I love that there are different cultures and the way people view things.

5 College Senior

Campus Dining: Our campus is amazing, there is literally a wide variety for every type of food you can think of. Everything is is close range to the center of the school and makes it easy for everyone since the campus is so large.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
