Scholarships: Have Patience – Dealing with financial aid can be difficult. The office handles all 50,000 students. It will be busy, they will deal with you quickly, and they probably won't be nice about it. If you have a problem, DO NOT WAIT. They are too busy to deal with last minute problems. However, they get things done. They have a very helpful website and they send you reminders. Just remember that we have one of the largest schools population-wise and there aren't always a lot of scholarships and grants to go around.

Weather: SOOOOO HOT – I mean, it's Florida. The sun is hot and bright. I can't walk to class without sunglasses. It might sound fun, but it's not cool to be running all over campus carrying your stuff in the heat. When it's not sunny, it downpours. There are a few months when we all wear rain boots and carry umbrellas everyday no matter how nice it looks. The weather changes very rapidly. It's either always raining or a drought. There won't usually be one random rainy day. Overall though, we aren't too affected by the weather.

Drug Safety: Doesn't Happen Much – Sometimes people smoke, but I've never really seen any other open drug use. I've never heard anyone talk about it either. There was a girl who died recently after leaving a frat party. The last I remember, drugs may have been involved.

Campus Dining: Could Be Worse – I've never had a meal plan because I didn't feel that it was worth the cost. I have, however, been in the dining halls anyway. The food can be very hit or miss. When you go there a lot you end up eating a lot of the same things. There are plenty of restaurants and fast good places on campus, but their hours are dreadful. If you're hungry on the weekend or at night then you stay hungry. The prices are also awful. Any university stores charge way too much money for a simple sandwich or yogurt. The restaurants don't have any real deals either, aside from meatless monday. There are a lot of coffee places though. 6 that I can think of right now. The campus is also surrounded by good places to eat.

Health & Safety: Comfortably Safe – UCF has a police station on campus and emergency button stations all over campus. They go to great lengths to make sure that residence halls lock. They also have escorts that will walk you around campus if you feel unsafe for any reason. However, we are in Orlando. It's not the safest general town. The area surrounding campus can be a little scary, including a lot of the off-campus apartments. It's also a completely open public campus. Anyone can come in at any time.

4 College Junior

Majors: Yes, I really enjoy it! It's a lot of hard work but it is worth it.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: the apartments are nice in the area. Most of them range from about 500-700 dollars per month though!

4 College Junior

Majors: Over 400 people apply and only 120 people are accepted. One has to have a MINIMUM gpa of 3.0 and MINIMUM TEAS test score of 74% to even apply.

5 College Junior

Facilities: Always Something Going on – Whether it be events held by the school or just down the street UCF has a community that is always moving and developing. Since UCF is not to far from the heart of Orlando or even the beaches many students find time to visit these locations when they aren't overwhelmed with school work.

4 College Junior

Majors: I plan to have clinical time as a nursing student, so yes that is like an internship.

4 College Junior

Majors: I just recently applied for UCFs Nursing Program, so I am not actually in yet. But what I can say is that it is a highly competitive program that runs for a consecutive seven semesters, including summers. In the end, each graduate receives their Bachelor's Degree in nursing and the local hospitals prefer UCF's students over any other school in the area. When I finish the program I do not have any concerns with trying to find a job. I am confident that I will have one waiting for me.

Facilities: The University of Central Florida continues to give students the opportunities they need to succeed not only in the classroom but after you graduate as well. The knights community is filled with enthused students who love attending football games, basketball games and our homecoming events. Many assume that when you attend a large university that you will not be offered any opportunities to speak with professors privately or obtain extra help, but UCF offers many opportunities to students so they can achieve, such as the entire learning community that helps students with their school work while allowing them to grow as writers.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: Security and Safety – Very Safe here at UCF but you still need to be careful and buddy up if you are a female to ensure your own personal safety. Their are a ton of Security always around but late night walks are best with a friend.

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Rosen Campus – On this Campus it's a little more low key, it's great for a quite student that really wants to put their nose in the books.

3 College Senior

Weather: Afternoon Showers – It rains a lot mid-day which is when classes typically are, so bring an umbrella.

4 College Senior

Transportation: Gets the Job Done – The transportation at UCF is the easiest way to get around campus, and get to other campuses, such as Rosen, College of Medicine, or the Nursing location on Research Parkway. If you cannot afford a parking pass, the UCF Shuttles give you the option of parking off campus and then shuttling onto campus. They also pick up at several apartment complexes. There is no bus tracking system, so you just have to wait at the bus stop until the next shuttle comes. Also there is no verification that it is only students getting on, you do not have to show your student ID.

Overall Experience: Pretty Good – UCF is a reasonably good school. It's not Harvard, but then you don't expect it to be going in. It's also not a community college. I've taken classes at Valencia while attending UCF and I can tell you that UCF is far above anything they have to offer. UCF is ridiculously inexpensive for this kind of an education, and if your major is something like engineering or pre-med, you'll be going to a graduate school with a more recognizable name anyway. I don't regret picking UCF over UF, but I do wish I had applied out of state before making the decision.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking at UCF is reasonably inexpensive. $44 per semester is not bad, particularly when compared to the other big state universities like UF. However, in the first few weeks of classes in August you'll be tempted to sleep in your car so you don't have to give up your parking spot. If you don't need to drive to campus, save yourself the torture and take the bus, walk, etc. If you have to drive, get there waaaaay early. Like if you think 30 minutes before your class starts is sufficient, double it. However, parking lightens up a little two or three weeks into the semester, but you will still find yourself walking a long way from the outer garages and/or stalking people for their spots.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: The non-dining hall food options on campus are not bad. Qdoba, Subway, Starbucks, etc. are all there, so there are options. I can't speak for the dining halls because I've never been to them.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Computer Access – The computers at the library are reliable, and theres usually plenty open to use, except during finals and mid-terms. The wi-fi signal has good strength, and you can access it anywhere on campus. The use of a personal computer is not needed for most classes, and some professors do not allow you to use them during classes.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: I would say that house parties are better then the club/bar scene. There free and you can make your own drinks. If you do want to go to clubs I would suggest going to downtown Orlando to wall street. Its one cover to all the bars on that street, and most have drink specials.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The hospitality program at UCF is a good program to consider. The fact that it has a seperate campus allows for the student to get to know the professors one-on-one, and give a more personal feel to the school, while still feeling apart of the UCF experience. The professors are knowledgable, and have real life experience.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Elementary Education – I am just staring out in the college of education and it is a great experience. There are so many resources to help you and the staff is dedicated to helping you succeed as a teacher.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: There is so much to do at night around campus. You have your local bars that are always packed and then a more classy scene downtown or by Disney and Universal. The prices around campus are so great!

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Perfect Place to Attend College – This is the best place to attend college! There is so much to do and the education is off the wall good.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
