5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Anyone can find something they like in their range

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: It's okay if you are poor or your parents don't work

5 College Freshman

Diversity: Everyone is accepted for who they are regardless!

3 College Freshman

Transportation: The UCF shuttle can get you anywhere you need to go!

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I did not attend UCF as an undergraduate student, but comparing my experiences from Florida State as an undergraduate, I can expect UCF to be intolerable to drugs, alcohol, underage drinking and breaking the honor code. All of these at FSU had a zero tolerance policy.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing surrounds the UCF campus. Apartment buildings range anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes from campus and town homes and houses can be found approximately 10 minutes away. Most of the off campus housing is averagely priced, as they understand the financial burden of being a student.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The reason I chose to attend UCF to obtain my Doctorate in Physical Therapy was due to the academic achievements of the school. UCF has prided itself on upholding academic excellence, and I have experienced this first hand with the faculty I have in the Physical Therapy program. They are very dedicated to helping their student succeed and thrive in the clinical world.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: The nightlife in the surrounding UCF area is okay. Underage nightlife occurs quite often in the local surrounding bars, but those 21+ can have fun in downtown Orlando. The older crowd can escape the underage drinking in downtown Orlando.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: On campus most students do not bring drugs or alcohol. If they do brings drugs or alcohol they keep them hidden/consume them in their respective cars before class. Drugs or alcohol is not readily visible on campus.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The financial aid process was very simple. The Doctorate of Physical Therapy program had to manually increase the offered loans because of the higher tuition rates my program has. Once the loans were manually increased was I able to smoothly accept the loans and proceed with my education.

2 College Freshman

Weather: During the summer, the UCF area can become very hot. Sweating going to class occurs every day, unless it rains.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I have only been admitted into the UCF Doctorate Program this year, and have not had much interaction with the Greek life at UCF. I have compared my experiences to those I have had during my undergraduate at Florida State.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: The attractions in the surrounding Orlando area very accessible, relatively cheap and fun! The general population is very nice and welcoming. There are local professional sports teams to watch perform and the local attitude around campus is carefree.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I was never a victim of a crime, but I received weekly, and sometimes daily updates of robberies occuring around campus.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: With large class sizes, don't expect much attention or recognition from the professors unless you show up to their office hours regularly. Registration is frustrating, classes fill up pretty quick. The library is an excellent resource and great study area. Most professors are pretty good but every now and then you get one that is way more interested in their research than teaching.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: In math courses they are very strict about the testing environment. A strict policy of no electronics or personal belongings with cameras and student aides watching constantly.

Police aren't too big of a presence. Just obey traffic laws and you should be fine.

Attendance policies in larger classes is generally lenient. Smaller classes usually count attendance as part of your grade.

Not sure about dorm situations, I always lived off campus.

5 College Junior

Computers: Computers are useful in school because they provide a whole new way of learning. It provides easy research and also interactive learning sources. It is also practical as it means that you can save items easily and you can save paper. It is also useful for those of us who have poor handwriting.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Having a car is definitely the most convenient option but not the most affordable. There are shuttles going to campus from off campus student housing. Also a couple lynx routes stop on campus to take you elsewhere in Orlando.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: With so many students, it's hard not to run into a minority, yet the minorities are treated no differently than anyone else.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Campus policy is such that you only get in trouble if you get caught, and many people don't want to be responsible for catching underage drinkers. Regulation and reinforcement is poor, certainly, but I believe that attempting to increase strictness would be a waste of time and resources.

Weather: I love florida weather. Temperatures are usually in the 70s or 80s, perfect for shorts or jeans. I usually wear flip-flops most of the year, and a number of students go barefoot. The fantastic weather makes for great campus life, and many students can be seen studying or relaxing outside between classes.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I don't participate in the drug scene, but I've heard stories of people doing drugs. While usage is fairly widespread, it doesn't interfere with classes or students who don't do drugs.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: There are several computer labs available, if you know how to find them. Each student is allocated a large number of free printed pages, perfectly sufficient for classes. The wifi network is poor, it's only working half of the time and when it is, it's slow. Wifi access is difficult as it forces you to create a new password every couple months, but they don't notify you when you need to update your password, so it's only when you need the wifi when you find out that you can't use it. A personal printer isn't needed, but a personal computer, while not absolutely necessary, is a great help in completing homework assignments.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are enough off-campus dining options that you not only have your choice of a large number of types of food but also many options within each type. I can easily find restaurants that are easy to afford and serve good food.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The faculty and students genuinely care about education and readily discuss enlightening subjects for the sole joy of enrichment.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
