Athletics: Varsity sports are a huge deal at UCF especially since our teams are all getting better and better each year! We have an awesome Rec and Wellness center and awesome Intramural sports that are easy to get involved in and so much fun to participate in! All the sports games are highly populated with UCF students and everyone loves to go out to cheer on our Knights!

Local Atmosphere: This town, so it seems, was built around this university because there are numerous malls that are located with-in a 5-10 mile radius, Universal studios, Disney, and Sea World are all the down town area which is about a half hour to an hour from the main campus. And if you are one to stay on campus there is always activities being held that are hosted by affiliated clubs.

Off-Campus Dining: Arond campus, there is a plethora of places to eat. The uniersity is at the heart of the community, and thsi brought many bussiness and restaurants. There is always somewhere to eat.

Health & Safety: I think its pretty safe. There are cops everywhere 24/7. theres also a these neon poles that "can be seen from anywhere on campus" that can call the police at any time of the night. you can use them in an emegency or if youre walking at anytime and dont feel safe, they will send someone to walk you where you need to go.

Off-Campus Housing: I like the off campus housing. There is awide range of possibilites. From very cheap to very epnsive. I think ever neighborhood tries to be the best they can within their budget. It also helps that the community is quite friendly.

Majors: There is a diverse range of majors to choose from and each quite interesting.

Transportation: The transportation is certainly there and pretty high quality and safe normally. The UCF shuttle for off campus apartment living is excellent! The bus drivers are on time, friendly, and safe. It's highly convenient for someone who doesn't have a car or doesn't want to deal with parking! The buses also transport students on game days. We also have the Lynx transportation system throughout the area, which I have heard mixed things about and keep in mind that the Lynx system is not free and shared with those besides other students. Also UCF offers a Knight Lynx service on Friday and Saturday nights from 8 pm to 3 am which is free for students and takes students to the local shopping center/restaurants/movie theater and also to off campus apartments and to campus. Its super convenient when you don't have a car! The area around UCF isn't very pedestrian friendly and the area within walking distance of UCF consists almost strictly of off campus housing. A car, a friend with a car, and/or Lynx is needed eventually. Maybe not freshman year, but once you get more acclimated in the area and need to work in the UCF area and need to stay during breaks it becomes a greater need to have a car to get to your job, or drive to the store to get what you need, etc. Hope this helps!

Athletics: I am going to give a disclaimer and that this question popped up on my survey and I am not really into sports so I may not be qualified to answer this. That being said, the most popular varsity sports here are basketball and football. Even they don't get as many people as UCF would like to attend the games. UCF has a broken school spirit--several people here would have rather gone to UF but they got into UCF not UF and walk around campus wearing gator gear...or supporting other colleges. The school is a commuter college for several people who just don't prioritize supporting UCF Athletics. The teams have mixed performances from what I've seen. The athletic facilities are new and excellent.

Diversity: The campus does a good job of including organizations and opportunities for a variety of religious, political, national, and economic backgrounds while simultaneously providing financial aid, scholarships, and high quality education to those of backgrounds typically unrepresented. This campus does an incredibly good job of reaching out to the LGBTQ community with several support groups on campus. The campus also has several religious organizations, political organizations, and ethnic organizations for students to join. There is great diversity within every field of study at UCF. Even Greek Life shows diversity in what it offers students. However, sororities or fraternities themselves tend to be quite homogenous in the kind of students each accepts. Most of the social sororities and frats take mostly those who are white and are wealthy (to pay the high costs of joining the sorority or frat). This is the only area of weakness for UCF, though I think this is pretty standard for most universities.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: Be careful with your aggregate limits. Its easy to be overpaid and then you have to pay back money. The office help doesn't always catch it so the student should be watchful.

5 College Junior

Academics: The Psychology program has AMAZING instructors. The majority are still working in their field and are a huge help when it comes to understanding the assignments. They do not look at the major as others in the world view it. They have a passion for their teachings.

4 College Junior

Academics: UCF offers a wide selection of majors that I knew would be beneficial to what I hope to do in life.

Weather: Local whether effects the campus experience quite a bit because some pathways flood when it rains. Also the large size of campus makes traversing it in the rain quite a pain. (cip: carry an umbrella in your backpack).

Majors: I'm currently enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at UCF. I cannot fathom a better program. We have very helpful T.A.'s who lead the laboratories, and our lectures consist of speakers who guide and inspire us every week. I'm still a freshman so I'm only taking core classes, but I believe that UCF is a great catalyst for anyone wanting to get into engineering, whether it be mechanical or aerospace. Although I'm only a freshman and have little obligation to my major at this point, they have inspired me to join a robotics club and go all out on any projects within their program that get thrown my way.

This week I'm making a GPS guided yacht I'll be printing up on a 3D printer. Two months ago I didn't even know what arduino was. Their program has truly had a positive impact on me (and the workload isn't bad at all).

Facilities: Student life on campus is amazing! There are so many different clubs, and areas you can go to study, hang out, relax, or just walk around. The athletic gym is the biggest gym I have ever been to with many classes to take to get into shape along with basketball courts, volleyball courts, and a track! You are also able to join intramural teams in any sport you can possibly imagine. You will never get bored being on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: My school is unique from others for a variety of different reasons. To begin we are one of the largest schools in the nation and continue to grow every day. We have many school traditions that bring us together as a school as well. For example, every year we have an event called Spirit Splash for homecoming week where all the students crowd around the reflection pond and count down until we can all run and splash into the pond with music and friends all around. Faculty members throw ducks into the crowd as well and if you catch one you are said to have good luck for the rest of your UCF career.

College Sophomore

Majors: Getting into the Biomedical Sciences major wasn't a very difficult process. The work came once I started taking classes for my major. Keeping up a high GPA is very important, and the work load can become difficult and very time consuming. Doing well in math and science courses before applying for the major is quite helpful as well as being in contact with the department heads and making sure that you meet any criteria.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: UCF is officially the largest school in the nation with over 60,000 kids. I believe that there are many different types of people here and all are accepted.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I think that the drug use at UCF is very small. We just recently became a smoke free campus, so any detection of smoke will go noticed.

5 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Orlando is an awesome town with a lot to do. We have the college, and many different types of nightlife around here, and just 20 minutes away you can go to theme parks, shopping malls, and several different museums.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are plenty of choices for off-campus housing, but none of them are really that great. In August I moved into a 4/4 for a little under $600 a month, which is a great price, but the apartments aren't that great. They do a terrible job matching you with your roommates. Since here we have had 2 fires, I never heard the alarms. The ground level apartments were getting broken into, and some guy "fell" off the 4th floor balcony of an apartment and none ever heard anything about it. My roommate saw it and told me what happened. Me and my roommates have both been followed in the parking garage, and once I had to call the police and it took them over an hour to show up. But it's Orlando, and you'll have problems any where you go. The nice part is that I am literally right across the street from the school, so I can walk, and they do try to do events and such for the tenants.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The UCF campus is generally very strict because they like to ensure their students and staffs safety. They are especially strict about drinking on campus, parking, and J-walking. They are strict about smoking because UCF is now a smoke free campus. They are strict about J-walking because someone died J-walking on campus a few years ago and they want to make sure no one puts themselves in avoidable danger.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have never felt unsafe on the UCF campus during the day. At night, I do not see as many police officers and security around, but I trust that my school has proved me with a safe environment.

2 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I have heard stories of people feeling unsafe and UCF disassociating with housing for periods of time due to their terrible reputations for safety. There have been some improvements lately though, and there is an excellent alert system in place for breaches of safety. The housing is very close to convenience stores, school, and the bus, but there is not a lot of availability and you need a co-signer even if you have good credit on your own.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: There is usually something going on downtown for the older crowd, particularly a lot of shows and events. On campus there is something going on literally every day and night and there are a lot of student organizations. Everyone seems friendly, they welcome you to join in games they are playing on campus if you would like, and the campus is about 45 minutes away from the wonderful world of disney! Who could be unhappy at the happiest place on earth?

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
