Athletics: The students really get into the football games, and tailgating is a huge ordeal, and a lot of fun. I personally enjoy the basketball games. The football stadium is really nice, as is the arena.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: The campus is beautiful, but very spread out, so you're gonna get a lot of exercise walking between classes. The Towers area has some cool restaurants/shops, and is also very visually appealing. The gym and recreation pool are also very nice.

Health & Safety: Escort services are available and the officers who respond are always happy to help. They would rather students, especially the freshmen and females, be safe than not. Although a person much walk or drive onto UCF property, it is still an open campus within 5 miles of two major highway exits. The Health Services are almost completely free for current students. You do have to pay for dental care, but it is a supplemented cost. On the downside, sometimes to staff is unattentative at Health Services. There are stretches of campus that are far away from any blue call box, places where someone can lay in wait. Students have been mugged in the parking garages. One person even tried killing his ex-girlfriend; luckily he was stopped by police.

Facilities: The Student Union is centrally located and can serve as a great landmarker for wayward freshmen. It features a number of fast food stores, two computer & print labs, conference rooms, a small convenience store, and plenty of seating. It houses the SGA too. They are responsible for maintaining the computer & print labs which allow students to print somewhere in the ballpark of 100 sheets B&W per week, if I am not mistaken. With your student ID you can stop by their office daily to pick up one free scantron or green book for tests. On the downside, the Student Union can get very noisy very quickly its with echo-tastic central room. Tables are in no short supply, however, power outlets are. Not so big of a deal until your laptop is at 2%.

Academics: UCF ranges from the best to the shameful when it comes to academics. Classes are readily cancelled for tailgating parties during football season, which is annoying when you are taking 3-4000 level courses. Based on my roommates' experiences you have better luck talking to your professors than the academic advisors for any of the creative majors (art, theatre, etc). Dealing with any bureaucratic element at UCF can quickly turn into a nightmare, so stay calm and get everything in writing. I can say from experience getting into your CHM 2045 will require a lot of going from office to office for paperwork, but Dr. Patino is always eager to help students. That's true of all of the upper level professors I have had. They are all highly passionate, knowledgeable individuals who are ready to help DURING office hours (so classtime is not held up).

Academics: I think the Criminal Justice program is extremely good. I have enjoyed all my classes and really learned a lot. All my instructors have first hand knowledge of the subject matter and they make the classes interesting. I know they do have an internship program, but I don't know that much about it.

Local Atmosphere: Orlando has a ton of things to do. It can be spread out a little as far a distance, but we have the 4 Disney parks, Universal Studios and Sea World. There are also museum, concerts and beaches to enjoy.

College Freshman

Drug Safety: I have not seen any drug/alcohol on campus; however I do not live on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are so many options to choose off-campus. Immediately after leaving the main campus you can see a variety of restaurants from fast food to fine dining. There's japanese, vietnamese, wings, american, mexican, and many UCF Alumni run restaurants. Downtown isn't that far either so one can stop by a place there or even go to the extremely fine dining areas around the Disney-Universal area! There's something for everyone!

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: The apartments are close but they come with a high price. Recently there has been a trend of increasing rent to every new tenant and the cheapest are not necessarily the nicest apartments. Safety is always an issue since there are never enough police cars or guards. However there are a variety of apartments that are furnished or unfurnished, near or far, walk-in closet or pet-friendly.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather can be unpredictable. You constantly need to bring an umbrella! There can be times where it will rain for 5 minutes and then be sunny again or it will be miserably hot and humid. But there is plenty of shade that people hang out under. Its just uncomfortable to walk long distances to classes in the hot weather. Its a better in the winter since it never gets too cold.

3 College Senior

Majors: The typical web design internship is very hands on. You are assigned many projects. You have to have good time management to juggle and successfully complete each project. Responsibilities include designing web pages, and making graphics of all kind.

4 College Senior

Majors: I enjoy my program very much. My professors are well qualified with much experience. You are assigned hands on projects, which gives you an impression of what the real world is like. There are many internship opportunities on campus, which can provide us with further experience.

4 College Senior

Majors: I love my program. The professors are knowledgeable and fun. There are there for you if you have any questions and if you need further help. I would definitely do it all over again. I plan to start my own graphic design company. It might have high competition nowadays but it would be very rewarding. The only concern I have about finding a job is high competition. Many people can do web design or graphic design.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: There's a whole bunch of things to do just off campus, but if you want to go into Downtown, the school has a bus that will take you to and bring you home from downtown, which is nice.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Being in Orlando, we have the attractions of most cities (shops, nightclubs, etc.), plus a large variety of theme parks, which UCF students get discounts for. We also regularly have concerts and other events on campus, and the surrounding area is covered in school spirit. There is no better place for entertainment and atmosphere.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The health center is always open to students, and are generally very helpful. There are police call boxes everywhere on campus, and they will escort you anywhere you need to go at night. However, in spite of good security, we regularly have violence and robberies on or especially near campus.

2 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing near campus is incredibly expensive, and the management is full of cheapskates. Crime regularly occurs at the places near campus as well. Going a bit farther away from campus, around 10 minutes away, however, will get much better prices and conditions. Amenities and transportation from housing is decent.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: For my major, we have to go to another building off campus to use computers with the necessary programs, so the availability is pretty good (there is also a schedule for open labs when you need to work on an assignment). The printing on campus is great; I like the new system of using the student ID and selecting documents that need to be printed. The wait time to use the printers can be a bit long during testing week and in the afternoon, but having an express printing lab right below is really helpful and convenient as well. The wireless network is above average but it can get slow during midterms and finals week. I highly recommend having a laptop at the very least (I don't think a printer is necessary) since computers on campus are easily taken up.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: I would say that the public transportation at UCF is rather good. For people who do not have cars and need to go to buy items, there is a bus, free of charge for students, that can take them to store plazas on weekend nights. Though I personally have stopped using the on campus buses, they are constantly driving around and there are many convenient stops located around campus.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Although the houses on sorority/fraternity row may be great, greek life is not the central focus at our school people do not treat you any different instead the school mostly focuses on academics and community involvement.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Very good options, just be careful what roommates you get and make sure to lock doors and keep yourself safe. Don't go out at night or leave things unattended.

3 College Freshman

Academics: There are lots of opportunities and options, but there is very little help in finding/applying/ or getting into them.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: I love the psychology department at UCF. The faculty and staff are always willing to help. Also, the selection of classes that are provided is incredible and I've learned so many interesting things.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: There are a few good places to eat on campus but the main dining hall near the dorms leaves much to be desired.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
