4 College Junior

Diversity: Diversity is very accepted here. With such a large amount of students there are people of all types.

5 College Junior

Facilities: UCF is home to the best homecoming tradition in the country: Spirit Splash. There are lots of specials events throughout the year like Light Up UCF, which features an ice skating rink, ferris wheel, and holiday activities, and Universal Knights, where Islands of Adventure is rented out for a night and free to UCF students. There is also a ticket center where we have access to discounted tickets to area attractions.

5 College Junior

Facilities: UCF is the only school to have it's own launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center. The engineering program is very very good, with ample internship opportunities available with Lockheed Martin, Siemens, and many others. The Hospitality school is amazing and constantly works with Disney, Universal, and Seaworld amongst others to offer internships to its students.

5 College Junior

Weather: It's Florida. Sunshine, ocean breezes, warm temperatures. It gets obscenely hot and humid during the summer and it rains every afternoon but the other seasons are mild and there is no snow to be shoveled here!

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are many many restaurants near campus, some familiar chains and some more unique options. There is a large food truck scene in the city and some do park near campus on occasion. If you can't find what you're looking for close to campus, chances are you'll find it in nearby Winter Park, Oviedo, or downtown.

5 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Orlando is a wonderfully large and diverse city. Disney and Universal are close by and many students have annual passes or know people that work there to get in for free. Downtown is full of nightlife and there are lots of theatres and art galleries for those looking for something more cultural. Unfortunately near campus it's kind of dull and strip mall-y but as long as you or a friend has a car you can do literally anything here.

5 College Junior

Academics: Being in such a small, unpopular major means that there is ample opportunity to schmooze with the professors if that's your thing and it's very easy to get into the classes you want. Only a couple of the smaller lab based classes fill up. As far as internships go, it's anthropology so there isn't a lot out there, but the professors are good about announcing opportunities they have heard about in class.

4 College Junior

Academics: I have no complaints about the academics here. They are adequately challenging, and being a member of the Honors College comes with perks like smaller class sizes and early class registrations. If you're not in honors, registration can be tough for the more popular majors because of the large amounts of students. Expect big classes for lower lever courses.

Greek Life: Our Greek scene is pretty large and active, but with over 60,000 students it is very easy to get involved elsewhere if you are not interested in the scene. It's really the best of both worlds.

2 College Junior

Campus Dining: It seems like dining is very inconvenient. I had a meal plan and had no real complaints about the food, it was nice to not have to cook even though it was a tad bit expensive. The problem is that there are two dining halls, and of course the one that was across the street from me closed at 7 or 8 on weekdays, had limited hours on weekends, and was always closed on holidays meaning that I had to trek all the way to the opposite side of campus if I happened to get hungry at an inconvenient hour.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Housing definitely depends on where you want to live. Some of the dorms are very new and nice; they're apartment style so you get your own bedroom but you share a bath and a living room. These are very expensive though, especially because you have roommates. They are also located very inconveniently to campus. The older dorms are more traditional in style but still pretty nice compared to other schools. There are no hall bathrooms, everything is suite style. They are more social because it is more people on top of one another as well as being cheaper and closer to classes.

2 College Junior

Transportation: Orlando is a spread out city with terrible public transportation. UCF is on the outskirts and is really not convenient to downtown or the attractions or anything. If you have any desire to get off campus you need a car or a friend with a car. Otherwise even getting groceries is a challenge.

4 College Junior

Athletics: School spirit is a little low, but the Knights are currently having one of their best seasons yet so it's definitely getting better. The relative unpopularity of the teams in comparison to other large state schools means that we get to go to all of the sports games for free: football, basketball, soccer, you name it. No lottery here. Our athletic facilities are very nice and new and we have two gyms on campus, one of which is huge and state of the art. If sports are your thing it is definitely very easy to get involved.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: Alcohol is of course very visible for tailgates and there are many bars within walking distance to campus. Not terribly sure about other drugs as I do not partake, but the only ones that have been visible to me have been pot smokers at concerts. Orlando is a major city and UCF has a large campus so it shouldn't be too difficult to get your hands on something if you really want. We also just started a medical amnesty program which should be beneficial to the community.

College Junior

Scholarships: I do not receive financial aid.

3 College Junior

Parking: Permits tend to be a bit pricey, but that is because you are buying a parking permit for multiple semesters. At UCF, it can get ridiculously hard to find parking spots during the busiest hours of the day (midday), during events, or in congested areas of campus (such as by the library, or gym). One of the good things about my school is that you do not need to have a car if you live here, because this campus has everything. The thing I hate the most though, is how strictly parking is enforced. If you are parked in the wrong spot, you WILL be ticketed, it never fails.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
