4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Sometimes it can be extremely difficult to get into the required classes due to lack of space and priority. Also some classes are major specific which sucks if you want to explore in classes like computer science. Classes range from 20 to 600+ students depending on subject. Avoid Dinosaurs.

Overall Experience: Not going to lie, some employers are turned off by the whole party school reputation. The deltopia riots didn't help. But honestly, a good portion of the reputation comes from SBCC students who live in IV and out of towners, people who don't realize that we have to live there everyday.

Nightlife: It's really easy to find a place to have a good time. Study hard & play hard is what you should aim for

Academics: Some of the best places to study are the library or the Ucen.

During midterms and finals, the Ucen is open longer and several other building host study hours and give away free testing supplies like scantrons and blue books.

Health & Safety: The school coordinates with the local police force and everyone receives emails from the campus when any crime happens on campus or in Isla Vista

Campus Dining: I guess the quality depends on which dining common you go to. Portola isn't the best, neither is Carillo in my opinion. But Ortega and De La Guerra are amazing. The only late night option is DLG but it's a little far if you live in Santa Catalina.

Majors: I think the most important criteria are probably both volunteering/leadership and grades. You need both to get considered and to stand out from all the other applicants.

Majors: My program is mathematics and it's pretty great. There's different opportunities available such as tutoring jobs or internships or sometimes even summer programs. Some of the math professors however are often difficult to understand...

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: The student life is amazing, there's a ton of different activities and places to suit everyone's interests. If you're in to politics there are clubs and meetings for that. If you're into sports there are options for that too. Even Quidditch.

Off-Campus Dining: Everything is close by and you can pretty much order anything delivered to your house. It's awesome.

Overall Experience: Class offerings could be improved but aside from that, the classes at UCSB are amazing! Take at least one class out of your major to enjoy a different element of academics here at UCSB!

Overall Experience: UCSB has a great reputation of producing students who are not just intellectually sharp but have suberb social skills as well which are important in the work field.

Athletics: Soccer is like football at UCSB because we don't have a football team. Get ready to throw tortillas out into the field when our team makes a GOOOOOOOOOOAL!

Greek Life: However, you don't need to be apart of Greek Life to make friends or be social. Everyone is very outgoing without being apart of a Frat or Sorority.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: A vast majority of our student population is outgoing and involved in at least one organization!

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The "Buddy System", is old but true. Stick together, there is strength in numbers!

4 College Sophomore

Majors: The academics at our school are amazing but I wish they had more course offerings throughout the year.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I hope to get an summer internship because you have more time to dedicate yourself to just that position.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: IV has some of the best food in the state! The Habit Burger Grill and Freebirds originate from Isla Vista.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Our school is known internationally for its parties!

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Our campus is not that diverse. Most of the population is Caucasian but the numbers of minorities has come up in recent years!

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Our campus is quite open! People feel free to express themselves and their views.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I wish they had more financial aid opportunities for individuals who follow within the "middle-class" social bracket.

Ask practically any UCSB student, and he or she can give you a long list of things they love about the University, along with a few things they wish they could change. For the most part, UCSB is a college student’s haven with great academics, world-renowned professors, not to mention the great weather and laid-back atmosphere, and lastly who can forget the social scene? Some students describe Santa Barbara as paradise, but for those who quickly get over it and need a getaway, LA is a short one-hour drive south, while San Francisco is only four hours north. There are hidden treasures in Santa Barbara that you can explore and take advantage of while living there.

Do not let the weather and social scene cloud your judgment and decisions—take a deeper look at the school and ask the students. Chances are, the parties are not at the top of their list. Most students fall in love with their internships, clubs and organizations, and research work that prepare them for the real world. The most successful students are those who find a balance between academics and social life. The temptation to blow off school is present wherever you go, so the students pay extra attention to the work they produce. Overall, UCSB is the type of school that produces people that employers are seeking. You will find your fellow peers to be sociable and well-rounded in and out of the workplace. So although you may not get to experience game days like you would at a football school, there is nothing better than being able to catch a quick "surf sesh" before and after your class.
