3 College Junior

Campus Dining: The dining hours should be extended. The variety of food offered on campus is good.

3 Recent Alumnus

Campus Dining: There are some great selections *ahem* ice cream at the A.I. Dining Hall.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: I used more dining dollars than meal swipes. I wish I had more dining dollars to use at the other on-campus dining services rather than the dining hall.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Meal plans are very expensive and cost of food without a meal plan is even more expensive but the food is good and there are alot of different options to choose from.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: I like eating at Lothian for the dining halls. On campus, i enjoy Bytes and the Coffee Bean!

In terms of quality, popular opinion ranks UCR campus dining at barely above average. The most common complaints are poor service—due to the majority of workers being students—and lack of vegetarian/healthy/kosher options. The restaurants in the HUB are easily the most preferred choices on campus, as they offer a great variety of food, such as Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and Japanese. Generally, it is accepted that the HUB and University Village food tends to be superior to that which is served in the residence hall cafeterias. Despite budget cuts, there is a remaining effort to improve the food and options while still keeping costs down. The numerous convenience stores are always useful for those on the go or on a budget, and “Bear Bucks” can be used anywhere on campus or even some places off campus. Dining Dollars and meal plans are primarily for residence hall locations, but they can also be used at the HUB. However, different meal plans have different amounts of Dining Dollars, which limit students’ choices.

Fortunately, dining options continue to improve. A new service gives students the opportunity to instantly rate any restaurant area and any meal at any time by texting their opinion to a UCR Dining phone system or via a tweet on their Twitter account (@UCRDining). Overall, though, students appreciate the availability and variety of food that UCR offers.
