UCM places a great value on technology, since it is one of the newest universities and the first UC of the 21st century. Consequently, students have great access to computers and Internet, including high speed wireless Internet available anywhere on campus, as well as connections off campus through the Virtual Private Network (VPN). Additionally, if you do not own your own laptop, there are computer labs located throughout campus—near the dorms, classroom buildings, and library. However, none of these labs is open 24/7; the latest a lab stays open is midnight. The library also loans out laptops for four hours at a time, which have access to Internet. You can stop by the library to easily check one out and then take it anywhere with you during your loan period. You can also renew your time, giving you additional four-hour periods, assuming the library has not run out of the loaner laptops. Unfortunately, the likelihood of the library running out laptops is rather high during finals, so if at all possible, it is suggested you have your own laptop or desktop.
The school's bookstore also provides you with an opportunity to purchase Apple computers at discounted prices. You can buy these computers/laptops either directly in the store or online. Students get a discount because UCM has a partnership with Apple, allowing UCM to sell computers at what Apple calls "Academic Pricing." You can also buy iPods and accessories at a discounted price.
