Campus Strictness: Campus strictness is not bad. No one is treated like a criminal at all; but there are some things that are not lenient.

Campus Strictness: The police officers do their assigned duties. If you get caught you have to pay the price. Sometimes they let it slip with a warning and sometimes they don't.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I haven't witnessed any rules being broken to witness the strictness of these policies, because everyone follows the rules for the most part.

The level of campus strictness at UC Merced is moderate. It is not impossible to get in trouble for violating a policy, but there is some leeway. Inevitably, drug use and underage drinking does occur on campus, with students attempting to carry out such behavior discreetly. However, students can get caught, most likely for using drugs and/or illegal substances, or for underage drinking. The consequences include being kicked out of student housing and even being referred to the Judicial Affairs committee as well as the UCM Police. On the other hand, some fortunate students get away with drinking and drug violations without ever being caught.

UCM also emphasizes a zero tolerance policy for plagiarism and encourages academic honesty, with a clause included in all class syllabi. Teachers use tools such as in an attempt to prevent such behavior. The resident committee also attempts to enforce quiet hours during the later part of the day, with residents complaining to their RAs (resident assistants) about too much noise. However, RAs do not seem to have total control in preventing such behavior; all they can do is to tell the offenders to quiet down, which is why there tends to be more leniency in regards to noise during the normal academic year, as opposed to when it is finals season.
