Despite rumors of superficialness and the proximity of Hollywood, guys and girls at UCLA are a down-to-earth and diverse bunch. There really is no average Bruin—students encompass a range of backgrounds, and most want to learn about each others'. Though separation between larger social cliques like the Greek system or minority groups is common, spontaneous chit-chat and phone number exchanges between guys and girls occur often. There are more attractive girls than guys at UCLA, but nobody can really complain due to the sheer number of romantic interests at a school with 25,000 undergrads.
Being in Southern California certainly boosts UCLA’s grades for hotness. Students take care of themselves and are always tan and groomed. The gym is the place to see and be seen—Bruins of both sexes don't mess around when it comes to treadmills. When guy-to-girl interaction goes beyond the ever-prominent party hookup, it's usually in the form of an LA café date or Westwood movie outing. Many students are eager to enter relationships, and many do.
