Campus Strictness: There's safety, but there should be more services

Campus Strictness: I haven't had to deal with any restrictive school policies so I wouldn't know.

Campus Strictness: There are many rules in place, but more often than not students are smart enough to not get caught anyway.

Campus Strictness: Campus administration is generally pretty lenient. UCLA allows student self-expression for the most part, and there are many protests/demonstrations/activists on site. Drinking/smoking is not permitted, although there are easy ways around it. This usually does not affect those who do not wish to partake, however.

Campus Strictness: Its a good balance of strictness.

Though UCLA dubs itself a zero-tolerance institution, most Bruins find the authority system to be decently lax. While in Westwood and going between apartment parties, students should be cautious not to stumble or tote the ominous red cup because police (however lenient they may be) are always present. Cops have been known to break up such events as Undie Run, but the attitude toward them is generally one of tolerance, as they surely let students have their fun. And, of course, the UCPD responds quickly and efficiently when called. As far as parties, apartments get as rowdy as they like with hardly any police interference. The newly instated chancellor, however, has worked to institute policies that have severely decreased the intensity of Greek events and increased security at these parties.

Currently, security is relaxed in most dorms. Drinking in the rooms is arguably the No. 1 cause of citations, and punishment really depends on your respective RA's (resident assistant) attitude: some dish out hours of bathroom cleaning, and others inflict no sanctions at all. On most occasions, RAs are students too and respect their fellow Bruins' right to rage. If drinking is concealed and kept quiet in dorms, it's almost impossible to encounter trouble. Visitation policies make it easy to let guests share in the UCLA experience.

Facts & Statistics

Students Are Most Likely to Get Caught...
  • Downloading copyrighted materials

Visitation Policies
In most dorms, visitors must be checked in at the front desk and need to be with their host when entering buildings. In suite-style dorms, there really are no lobbies, so guests may enter as they please, making suites the ideal rooms for avid hosts. Visitation policies at UCLA are quite lenient, and they really do not impede visitors' fun.
