Campus Dining: The dorm dining halls are said to be some of the best in southern California, but the on-campus cafeterias are abysmal if not an absolute embarrassment. The variety is very poor, the taste isn't much better than microwaveable food, and the vegetarian options don't really count as "options."

Campus Dining: UCLA has often been rated as having some of the best on-campus dining of any public school in the nation. There are always healthy options as well as ethnic/kosher ones at every hall, and all of it is good.

Campus Dining: THIS CAMPUS HAS THE BEST FOOD EVER. I try to avoid caps if I can, but seriously, UCLA puts so much effort and delicacy into their food options. Like any other campus, it has chain restaurant options (Panda Express, Jamba Juice, etc.). But that's not what makes it so great. The dining halls are magnificent. B-Plate is one of the newest additions to the dining halls and serves health-conscious options that are also tasty. Workers put fine detail into each plate served, down to minute sprinklings of herbs on a dish. The salad bar is outrageous here, with so many exotic salad dressings, and there is even a booth for a worker to mix your salad for you. Some of the most memorable dishes I've had this year: lamb chops and crab cakes. Brunches on weekends are pretty gnarly as well.

Moving on. There is also Feast dining hall, which is Asian food. Many options are new each week, but some recur on every select day (e.g. Vietnamese pho on Wednesdays). I've had everything from pot stickers to Hawaiian mahi mahi to Korean barbecue to Japanese tonkatsu. There was also an anime night during the last few weeks of last quarter, in which the dining hall was decorated anime-style, and anime-plushes hung from the ceiling. All dishes were taken from some well-known anime and prepared, and there was even a spicy-ramen-eating contest.

Covel dining hall serves mainly Mediterranean or Italian food. Expect carbs. There is always pasta, and it is always good. De Neve dining hall just recently shut down at the end of last quarter for renovation, but a De Neve Lunch-to-Go area was built, which is extremely convenient, as students can just grab sandwiches or salads quickly before class.

Hedrick is also its own dining hall, and yet I've only ever been to its Late Night opening, where fusion tacos are served (Korean bbq with kim chi served inside tequila wrapping). Boba and fast-food options are also served.

All dining halls are immense and beautiful.

Food at UCLA is delicious. Each "residential restaurant" revolves its choices around a tasty central theme, such as American comfort foods or Asian and organic. These restaurants switch up their menus constantly to include creative favorites like penne with shrimp or chicken cordon bleu burgers. Although bad-for-you temptations abound, there's no shortage of healthy, vegetarian, and vegan options—each restaurant features a colorful salad bar and plenty of veggie-based entrees. The dorm zone has three quick-service restaurants, each of which is a welcome break when dining hall food becomes (if ever!) monotonous. Mean plan options are well-priced and range from 11 to 19 meals a week, though most students agree that the flexible 14 Premier plan is the way to go, as it allows unused meal "swipes" to carry over from day to day.

Outside the Hill, non-residential food offerings are almost just as fabulous. Ackerman Union hosts a variety of popular vendors and equally satisfying prices, including the largest Jamba Juice in the nation. Campus cafés, such as Northern Lights and Jimmy's Coffee House, provide an upperclassman's escape from the school day and a cozy place to study or chat.
