4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Stereotypical College With Perks – tons of parties. hard classes. typical smart college.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Amazing School Spirit – the games are always great because of the fans. we have a huge local fan base and an intense rivalry which makes it all the more fun. the student section is always incredibly lively and is what makes the games so fun.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Lots of Computer Labs and Printers – Lots of computers can be found all over campus for student use, and every year you get 100 free pages, and the printers print double sided!

1 College Sophomore

Transportation: Good Luck Leaving Campus – Okay, this is a bit of an exaggeration. But, still, getting on-campus parking is outrageously difficult and expensive, especially if you live in the dorms. LA is definitely a city where you need a car. Still, there are a number of bus options. The Big Blue Bus tends to run west of UCLA and costs 35 cents with a Bruincard. Unfortunately, it doesn't run very late. The Metro Rapid line runs throughout LA for $1.25 and runs late into the night. Also, you can rent a car through Zipcar for $8 an hour, if you're desperate.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Pretty Nice – For all of the bad things I could say about UCLA, I have no complaints about the campus. There are several libraries available, some of which are under renovation, but the main library is beautiful and very useful. There is a gym open to all students from early in the morning through the late night, equipped with racquetball courts, a rock wall, basketball courts, a weight room, and cardio equipment.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: It's Ok – The process is smooth but I dont receive my money early enough.

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life is very prominent, and it makes things exciting and interesting. However, it's not for me.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: The Best – Los Angeles has a great variety of places to eat out. There are many places with high-quality cusine, and some local eateries known for unique menus.

1 College Sophomore

Parking: I don't drive to school because I live on campus, but I hear parking availability is rare.

College Sophomore

Drug Safety: But I hear that it's rather easy to retrieve drugs on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Gas and Constipation Problems – The food on campus, in dining halls in particular, is tasty but can cause gas and constipation. There should be some healthier alternatives.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Loans Process Could Be a Little Smoother – Grants and scholarships through the school are straightforward, and there are no huge problems with that process.
The only downside about financial aid is loans because there are lots of steps in the process, especially paperwork.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Luckily, UCLA is in walking distance of many student apartments, restaurants, shops, and entertainment locations. Parking spaces are very limited both on and around campus, so walking is probably the best form of transportation.

2 College Sophomore

Computers: Printers Aren't Always Connected to Internet – In order to print on campus, printers must be connected to the Internet. Some printing labs, however, don't always have Internet connection, making it more difficult to print necessary documents.

1 College Junior

Scholarships: Lines Are Long – The lines are long and tiring. After you a while when you get your turn there is not much they can do for you.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: A Lot of People Talk About Drinking – Many people talk about getting drunk and going to parties that have drinks.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Great Off-Campus Eateries – UCLA has tons of great off-campus eateries, including great fast food such as In-N-Out and Taco Bell to more upscale restaurant like BJs Brewery. Dennys has a 10 percent off student discount. All of these locations are close to campus, just a 5- to 10-minute walk away, and the atmosphere is amazing!

4 College Senior

Scholarships: BRUIN DIRECT MAKES IT GREAT – I recommend all freshmen/transfers should enroll in Bruin Direct Deposit ASAP.
Instead of waiting for a physical check in the mail, students will receive money straight to their bank account about 2-3 weeks in advance. This makes the process easier and faster!

2 College Senior

Greek Life: Greek life does not dominate the party scene at UCLA. I don't like how they are very superificial and shallow when it comes to picking the people who join the sorority or fraternity. I'm glad it does not dictate the social life of UCLA!

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Great Food Options – UCLA dorms may not be the newest but the food is great! Bruin Cafe has great sandwiches (ham and swiss, roast beef, soups, salads, etc.). There are lots of dorm cafeterias too. I miss dorming because of the food!

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: A Huge Pain – I applied for as much as I could but wasn't eligible for a lot and ended up getting only loans which in the end does nothing to help. But it is a public university so there isn't a lot of money to give out anyway.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: GE Clusters – These are open to college freshmen, and they last a year. It is a class that you take, and at the end of the year, instead of only receiving three GE credits, you get four, plus a writing requirement. They are really good to knock out classes in subject areas that are less interesting to you.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: Went Through Easily. After i filled out my fafsa, it went through smoothly. after i answered a few questions, my financial aid was in.

4 College Freshman

Weather: It Does Not Affect It Very Much. Sometimes it gets extremely hot and I get tired walking up the hills, but other than that, the weather is perfect.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Very School Spirited – Our school has many sports teams from football, basketball, and soccer to rowing, tennis, and swimming. Our school may not be the highest ranked but every student is proud to be a Bruin, and we are very school spirited.

Smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles and on the list of America's top colleges, UCLA is a school for those who want to have a blast while focusing on schoolwork. Although course registration is a battle, classes are crowded, and the registrar is impersonal, students praise the wisdom of their professors and feel that a UCLA degree will open major doors in the job market. The quarter system moves fast and tests tend to sneak up stealthily, but this allows for more experimentation when choosing courses and far less boredom. With more than 100 majors to choose from, the campus is bustling with students of all ideologies, races, and academic interests, making rousing discussions an everyday experience.

One of the nation's few top-notch universities that isn't private, UCLA is a place for those who want to learn more than a textbook contains. There’s pressure to shine socially and academically among the approximately 25,000 high-achieving Bruin undergrads, but there are plenty of campus organizations that give students a go-to friend group in the midst of the giant student body. However, it's up to the students to scout out and take advantage of all opportunities because nothing is handed to UCLA students—they must learn to navigate around red tape, persist through budget cuts, find parking and housing in Westwood's winding streets, and steer toward success. And how do they celebrate their successes? Parties! Whether through the semi-dominant Greek system or at a laid-back dorm gathering, UCLA students know how to put the books aside for a night. Overall, Bruins play nearly as hard as they work, making UCLA one of the most well-rounded schools imaginable.
