College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I am a first year on-campus resident so I am not sure how off-campus housing is.

Local Atmosphere: Westwood Village is a fun little area that provides a great backdrop for after games. You can go get some Diddy Riese and catch a movie premiere. Celebrity sightings are pretty common here as we are in such a rich area.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Drugs are available for those who go out and look for them.

Parking: Don't bring a car. Get a vespa.

Nightlife: Everything except the bar/club scene is amazing at UCLA. There are always fun parties going on somewhere almost every night of the week. If you want a good bar/club scene you really don't have to go far. Santa Monica and Venice are very close and there are plenty of fun bars and clubs to go to there.

Athletics: It is so awesome being a part of UCLA especially with athletics. Everyone comes out to support the teams and football and basketball games are insanely fun to go to. Everyone is super rowdy and just having a great time cheering on the Bruins.

4 College Junior

Academics: Being a history major is great. The professors are awesome and the workload really depends on the specific professors. Most professors give a challenge and I like that. It keeps you on your toes and makes you really earn your education.

Academics: Professors are like at any school, you'll get good ones and you'll get bad ones. But its good to know that UCLA professors are always cream of the crop, and no matter what they know what they are talking about. The workload is a little tough at UCLA because of the quarter system, but people are able to handle it.

Campus Housing: The best thing about campus housing is having a meal plan. The food at UCLA is amazing. I'm pretty sure it's world famous.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I haven't ever had to use it, but I've heard its great.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is pretty much all about getting lucky. It's pretty much impossible to park on the street in Westwood, so if you can find an apartment with underground parking, you're set. There are a lot of new apartment buildings that are being built this year so there are going to be a lot more great options next year with underground parking. Its pretty tough to get an apartment in Westwood, you'll have to start looking for an apartment now if you're looking to stay off campus next year. Cost depends on a lot of factors, there are plenty of affordable apartments out there especially with the more roommates you get.

Weather: Its sunny and 70 degrees almost every day.

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining in Westwood is pretty awesome. We have an In-N-Out so that tops the list. There are so many places to check out: Fat Sal's, Tommy's Taco, Gushi, Sepi's, Diddy Riese, BJ's, the list goes on.

Athletics: Go Bruins!
110 NCAA national championships and counting.

Off-Campus Housing: The real downfall of living of campus if the walk.

Transportation: Transportation around LA isn't the BEST, but the bus only costs 50 cents for students, and it will take you right down to Santa Monica where you can enjoy a day on the beach!

Drug Safety: I have yet to hear of any serious drug related issues, and besides marijuana (which is legal for medicinal purposes here in California), I have yet to even see any other type of drug. Marijuana is illegal on campus, however, despite state laws. The drug scene is very lowkey and does not play a very big part in students' lives.

Weather: LA is known for having beautiful weather, and it's sure not to disappoint. Does 70 and sunny everyday sound nice to you?

5 College Freshman

Facilities: Student life is awesome! There are so many clubs on campus that it's almost overwhelming. We have an old fashioned library and a new modern one, and the Jaans steps are a beautiful place to lay out on a nice day and study.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The buildings on campus are beautiful, and the dorms are really nice too! Although some of the older buildings could use some renovation, there is always improvement being made to campus. One of UCLA's famous acronyms is Under Construction Like Always.

Local Atmosphere: LA has so much to offer. There are schools nearby (Loyola Marymount University and our rival, USC) and LA is just one of the most vibrant cities in America. Hollywood is just around the corner, and if you want to take a shopping trip down Rodeo Dr. or go to a Lakers game, you can do it in a heartbeat.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: UCLA has always had a reputation for having outstanding athletics. With the most national championships in the country and 11 NCAA championship titles for Basketball, sports are very exciting here. The legendary John Wooden coached basketball here, and our rec center is named after him.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are SO many places in LA to visit for food, and every possible type of cuisine is offered. If you want to go to Chinatown or more authentic Mexican places, you have every available option at your fingertips.

Smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles and on the list of America's top colleges, UCLA is a school for those who want to have a blast while focusing on schoolwork. Although course registration is a battle, classes are crowded, and the registrar is impersonal, students praise the wisdom of their professors and feel that a UCLA degree will open major doors in the job market. The quarter system moves fast and tests tend to sneak up stealthily, but this allows for more experimentation when choosing courses and far less boredom. With more than 100 majors to choose from, the campus is bustling with students of all ideologies, races, and academic interests, making rousing discussions an everyday experience.

One of the nation's few top-notch universities that isn't private, UCLA is a place for those who want to learn more than a textbook contains. There’s pressure to shine socially and academically among the approximately 25,000 high-achieving Bruin undergrads, but there are plenty of campus organizations that give students a go-to friend group in the midst of the giant student body. However, it's up to the students to scout out and take advantage of all opportunities because nothing is handed to UCLA students—they must learn to navigate around red tape, persist through budget cuts, find parking and housing in Westwood's winding streets, and steer toward success. And how do they celebrate their successes? Parties! Whether through the semi-dominant Greek system or at a laid-back dorm gathering, UCLA students know how to put the books aside for a night. Overall, Bruins play nearly as hard as they work, making UCLA one of the most well-rounded schools imaginable.
