3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Its college. So we all have our little groups but its pretty diverse. Everyone is accepting of everyone else and chooses to be diverse in any way the want.

4 College Student

Guys & Girls: I take value in meeting new and interesting people, definitely have that here.

Guys & Girls: A lot of girls wear spandex, and I just don't understand that lifestyle choice. Some people are super nice, others are mega rude. Most people wear layers because it is cold, but then there are those spandex wearing girls. Lots of people just do their own thing, but others form little groups and you see them doing things together all the time.

5 College Senior

Guys & Girls: First- if you're focused on appearances, this is not the school for you. We're consistently rated one of the worse dressed schools in the nation. Much of our student body lives in dry cabins (no running water). We dress for the cold, and the people who don't, don't stay in Fairbanks long.

If you want personality, intelligence, and a partner for life's adventures, this is the school for you. Almost everyone in Alaska has a story. I've heard Fairbanks referred to as the home of the Mismatches and Misfits. It can be a positive thing- we're more concerned with living our own lives, having fun, and pursuing the interests we enjoy (from broomball to Quidditch to LARP to DnD to hunting, fishing and trapping...etc) than on "socially normative behaviours". Actually, the normal Fairbanks resident is eccentric by lower 48 standards. We have fun though. Typical first dates include bowling, going to a hockey game, having dinner or coffee together, etc. Some of my favorite dates have been to Chena Hot Springs, the movies, or to a picnic. There's a variety of relationships- Fairbanks, as a community, is very tolerant, even of non-traditional relationships. The GSA is a major presence on campus.

Frankly, I like guys with calluses and flannel, who share my values of independence, self sufficiency, and adventure. Yeah, we're kind of rough around the edges, but we like it that way. I generally prefer a fellow Fairbanks resident for dating.
