3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I enjoy on campus housing. I live in the newer suite-style dorms and those are gorgeous and spacious. I have my own room and I only share a bathroom with one other person. Traditional style dorms tend to be older and I hear a lot of complaints about them.

Drug Safety: The administration, campus police, and student health services are pretty vigilant about warning students of the risks and consequences of drug use and underage drinking. However, it is still unbelievably easy for students to get their hands on any substances they want.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I am living in the dorms so I have not experienced off campus housing yet.

College Freshman

Guys & Girls: I haven't done much dating so I can't comment on this.

Greek Life: I'm not a member of Greek Life so I'm just speaking from the outside looking in. What I see in the Greek System is a lot of separation. There is very little racial integration in either the Caucasian greek organizations or the African American Greek organizations. And in both instances there is an extreme distinction between those who are Greek and those who are not. However, individual members of the sororities and fraternities are pretty genuine. I just wish the system weren't so elitist.

Athletics: I love everything about Alabama athletics. Of course everyone knows about the football team and they really are the best. Unfortunately I couldn't give athletics a "best" rating because the other teams tend to be grossly overshadowed by the football team. However, it is in the students' best interest to go out and show love for all the teams because overall, they're all pretty good in their respective sports. Personally, I love the basketball team.

Health & Safety: I generally feel pretty safe. I know how to get in touch with the police if I need them and they're never too far away. When it comes to health, I'm not quite sure. I've never been to the health center, however, I do feel that the location is a bit inconvenient from where I live on campus.

College Freshman

Nightlife: I don't participate in the nightlife so I cannot give a good answer.

Academics: The academics are really good. It's helpful to check Rate My Professor when you're looking to sign up for classes, because a professor can make or break a class. Other than that, however, the material is generally pretty good and challenging, especially if you are part of the Honors College.

Parking: I don't have a car so the whole parking situation does not apply to me at all.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: The Crimson Ride buses are reliable and good for weekdays when you need to get to class or even to the grocery store. On certain nights it's definitely better to have a car though, because the after hours shuttle services are not as reliable as they could be. Frankly, the problem is there are not enough shuttles for the amount of people who need to use them on a regular basis.

Local Atmosphere: I love Tuscaloosa. Some say it's too boring, but coming from a pretty high-volume area, I appreciate the more "toned down" atmosphere. It's quiet when it needs to be, but the shopping and dining aren't bad if you just need a place to go when you're tired of campus.

3 College Freshman

Computers: I rarely use the school's computers or printers so I cannot speak to that. My only issue with the university's technology is the fact that the internet is not as reliable as it could be. In my dorm (Lakeside East) we do not have as many issues as other dorms, but the connection could be stronger.

College Junior

Majors: I have not done an internship as of yet.

College Junior

Majors: Currently I don't attend because I have run out of funds, and need a grant or scholarship so that I may finish the last few classes to graduate.

3 College Junior

Weather: Its bipolar. It will be really hot one day and freezing the next!

Campus Housing: I loved my dorm room! Although it was small, it had an apartment style layout and was close to the bus stop that went to all my classes.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: I feel safe. I don't think I would get pressured into using any type of drugs.

4 College Junior

Majors: It is not difficult to become an Engineering major but the classes are difficult and the schedule is pretty strict regarding fall or spring class offerings.

4 College Junior

Majors: The engineering program has given me a lot of opportunities for networking with the industry professionals.

4 College Junior

Computers: Its not difficult to find a computer to use if you are involved in your major. Engineering halls each have at least one computer lab, along with Rodgers library and Gorgas.

4 College Junior

Transportation: I like using the bus when it is raining.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: The only con is the prices. If you want a safe apartment that doesn't have mold you will be paying the big bucks ($600-900)

Diversity: Although our school has been on the news for race inequality in the Greek system, the student body as a whole is very accepting and diverse.

Health & Safety: For such a large campus they keep everything well lit and there are blue emergency phones everywhere.

University of Alabama students constantly brag about their school’s traditions and spirit, and their pride is shown throughout the town. Some say it’s the incredible education that drew them here, and others say it’s Bama football that brought them to this Southern school. But no matter what reason these students choose to come to UA, most believe it was the best choice they could have made.

After graduation, some students get a job, some further their education by going to UA’s grad school, and some even go to UA’s law school. No matter what the students decide to do with their future, they believe Bama has prepared them for it. Students advise upcoming freshmen to walk around the Quad, visit the Strip, or watch a football game to understand why so many love UA.
