College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Everyone is laid-back. You can walk across campus on a football Saturday with a 30 pack, and no one will even be suspicious. I have never had a run in with drugs on campus.

College Junior

Diversity: Most people on campus are middle-class, white, straight conservatives. You can easily run across some small-minded, sheltered jerks, but I think there are just as many open-minded people. UA is a big school, so you can find pretty much any type of person here.

College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: I know sometimes the police are strict about drinking, and sometimes they let you off.

College Student

Campus Strictness: It's very strict. Police are everywhere and monitor the streets where people live all night.

College Junior

Campus Strictness: They are as strict as they need to be. They will level with you on warnings, but once you're caught, you're caught. Basically, as long as you're not acting a fool, blatantly using something, or doing something wrong, they probably won't even notice.

College Junior

Diversity: It really depends on which group you associate yourself with because you will not see all diverse aspects of campus. It seems that most students here are white and come from middle- to upper-class families.

College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There is pretty much whatever you could want. The Strip is within walking distance and has tons of different restaurants. Wings and Dreamland are some favorites.

College Sophomore

Transportation: Within the past couple of years, the University has started a bus system, called the CrimsonRide. Sometimes it's great to ride the bus when the weather is poor or you just don't feel like walking. However, due to traffic and an erratic schedule, it's often times quicker just to walk!

College Sophomore

Parking: Agh! Parking is such a pain and always a battle on this campus.

Athletics: Football, football, and football. In the fall, Tide fans are full of spirit and tradition. Mark your calendar-every Saturday will be booked for Alabama football. Roll Tide!

Athletics: This is Alabama; sports are important!

Niche User

Athletics: Varsity sports, and especially football, are the major focus of the entire University. Sports provide a social environment more than anything. Everyone goes to football games whether they like football or not because it's `the thing to do.' I'm a huge Bama fan, and to me, there's nothing better than 85,000 people going nuts at a Bama football game. Our basketball and baseball teams were both nationally-ranked, and our gymnastics team won the national gymnastics championship.

Niche User

Athletics: Football is a religion. Tuscaloosa is known as a drinking town with a football problem. We take great pride in all of our varsity sports (basketball, baseball, softball, and gymnastics), and IM sports are popular year-round. I hear that a lot of people in campus organizations that I'm involved with participate in things like ultimate Frisbee, soccer, softball, flag football, and other IM sports.

Athletics: Varsity sports are huge; especially football! Intramural sports are very big, too, especially with the Rec!

Niche User

Athletics: There is a great Student Recreation Center (called the Rec), and there are intramural sports practically all year-round. Just about every sport known to man is available as an intramural sport, and it's all free.

Niche User

Athletics: Football is life. Intramural sports are always going on, and they're fun to participate in.

Niche User

Athletics: Varsity sports carry huge weight statewide and serves as a factor in bringing students together.

Niche User

Athletics: Sports are a great way to get involved and meet people. Football games are the highlight of the year.

Niche User

Athletics: There are plenty of athletic activities on campus! We have a huge Recreational Center where you can work out and sign up to participate in IM sports. I am sure that you have heard of our football tradition, but the basketball games are also a lot of fun. There is always something going on with University of Alabama athletics!

Niche User

Off-Campus Housing: It is worth it. The drive isn't bad, and it gives me a chance to unwind and have some space.

Niche User

Off-Campus Housing: Most of it is within walking distance of campus, and it's usually very nice.

Niche User

Off-Campus Housing: I live off campus, and it's great. Housing is very easy to get. There are many, many houses and apartments that you can buy or rent. Most are within five minutes of campus.

Niche User

Off-Campus Housing: People try to rip-off college kids, but the Downs and the Commons are both good for the price you pay.

Niche User

Off-Campus Housing: Housing off campus is definitely worth it! After freshman year, you're ready for your own place, and it truly is an experience you'll never forget!

Niche User

Off-Campus Housing: I've lived off campus for the past two years. I only have to drive about four miles to campus, but because of traffic, it takes about 15 minutes. I don't mind it, really, but people think I'm crazy for living that far away. There are many old houses and apartments rented out to students that are practically on campus, and there are even more off campus.

University of Alabama students constantly brag about their school’s traditions and spirit, and their pride is shown throughout the town. Some say it’s the incredible education that drew them here, and others say it’s Bama football that brought them to this Southern school. But no matter what reason these students choose to come to UA, most believe it was the best choice they could have made.

After graduation, some students get a job, some further their education by going to UA’s grad school, and some even go to UA’s law school. No matter what the students decide to do with their future, they believe Bama has prepared them for it. Students advise upcoming freshmen to walk around the Quad, visit the Strip, or watch a football game to understand why so many love UA.
