3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: It's average. The drinking and transportation varies throughout the terms. The party scene is okay.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Union is a big party school!

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: I don't go out much so I am not informed on Union's nightlife.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: There are not a lot of bars, and Schenectady can be pretty intimidating at night, so kids stick to the on-campus frats and nearby houses and apartments. They're generally pretty welcoming to first years and alcohol/marijuana supply is abundant.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: There are some nights that are really fun and others that are not. But it balances out.

Union definitely has the reputation of being a party school. Wednesdays are the new Thursdays. That is when everyone goes out just because it works into most people's class schedules better. Monday is also becoming a "go out" night, but Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are usually when you will see the most students out at night. Chet's on-campus bar is open Monday (in the spring), Wednesday (always), and Friday for happy hour (always).

Students will usually drink somewhere with friends (depending on your age) and then go to Rupsis or Geppetto's (if they are looking for a bar). If you don't drink, there are usually non-alcohol related activities happening around Union from campus movies (which show every weekend) to concerts and comedians. If you look for it, you can find it. There are students who choose not to drink, and no one really pressures them to get wasted, though many students choose to drink. The comedians are great, and the movies are usually pretty good, but don't expect to find many `cool' parties late Friday or Saturday night without alcohol being served.

Organization Parties
Party in the Gardens is probably the most popular event thrown every spring at Union. The school sets up tents in Jackson’s Gardens and students get dressed up to dance the night away under the stars in a beautiful setting. Club U is typically for the newly-arrived freshmen to get together and dance in the campus center for the evening, but usually upperclassmen go as well. There are also semi-formals here and there, but for the most part, if you’re stone cold sober, you’re not in the majority.

Rupsis Tavern

Rupsis, which has been around since 1940, is known for its wings. The tavern offers a 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday happy hour, during which you'll get free pizza and wings, and discounted draft specials. Try the chicken dough bake.

Geppetto's

Geppetto's doubles as an inexpensive pizza place and a popular bar. It's available for parties and events, and often features live music on the weekends, in which case there's a small cover (usually in the neighborhood of $5).

547 Nott St.

Chet's

This is the primary Union student hangout, mostly because it's cheap and located right on campus. Plenty of clubs and frats hold events there, and the bar often hosts live bands.
