4 College Sophomore

Computers: There are plenty of computer labs to be found on campus, so you do not have to carry around your laptop if you didn't want to. Printing on campus is quick and affordable. Network at times was slow, especially during midterms/finals because everyone is trying to use the internet. In some buildings the connection to internet is better than others.

4 College Freshman

Computers: There are plenty of computers available for use at the library on campus. The computers are always clean and work. It's very easy and cheap to print. Also, the network is fast.

Computers: (Russell Sage) Since the school is small there are always computers open. The only time there's a huge lack of computers is when finals come around (end of semester crunch). Having your own laptop is nice, and convenient. getting wifi is not a huge problem either.

Computers: Printing is great on campus because they provide a budget for each student who lives in campus

3 College Junior

Computers: The computer labs are extremely small and the internet if very slow. Many times, when there are many students on the computers, the computer will run slow and actually crash. This is frustrating when there is only limited time to spend on projects.

Most students find it easier to have their own computer on campus along with their own printer. Note materials and homework sheets are heavily printed by students, so it is just more convenient to be able to work in a dorm room and not worry about going to use the library. School labs seem to be crowded during the afternoon, but other than that, a computer is always available somewhere. There are three computer labs that students can use, but a lab assistant must be present, unless the student gets permission from a professor or the tech staff to use the labs unattended. Most of the computers were moved to the library and are spread out between the first and second floors.

Tech support is very helpful, and they know how to fix any problem. If students are experiencing problems, either on a campus computer or their own computer, they can either call tech support or bring the computer to them. Tech support is more than happy to help any student experiencing technical problems. Network reliability depends on where students are and whose computer they are using. If computers are being used in the labs or in the library, the network is very reliable, and there are very few problems. On the other hand, the network is not very reliable in students' rooms or on other areas of campus not near classrooms. Students can make the network reliable, though, by getting a wire that connects from the computer to the phone jack, which secures network reliability.

Facts & Statistics

Wireless Access
Yes
In all classrooms, Buchman Pavilion, and the library
24-Hour Labs?
No
There are no 24-hour labs on campus, but there are three lab areas located in the basement of the Lorraine Walker Education Building, and the library is open from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays (with computers available).
Charged to Print?
Yes
Printing is not free. It costs 10 cents to print in black and white and 50 cents to print in color.
Special Software & Hardware Discounts
Sage does have connections with Dell and Apple computer stores, and students may save money by entering in discount codes, depending on the type of computer they buy. There are no special software licensing discounts, and students oftentimes have to buy software separately from the computer. Even though this option is offered by Sage, most students will buy their computer from Best Buy or through a similar company so they can get 24-hour help if needed and to also get a longer warranty.
Did You Know?
Students start out with money on their identification cards. They can use the money to photocopy materials or to print out work from a school computer if the student does not own a printer. This comes in handy when doing work in the library and labs, especially since printing is not free.
