2 College Student

Scholarships: It's such a small school and it is private so aid is very difficult. Especially for international students

Parking: All parking is off campus. Very few students have cars, but in the city, you don't need one. Mass transit is readily available and cheap.

Drug Safety: You see alcohol and marijuana at off campus parties. The requirements of the curriculum doesn't really allow for a heavy drug scene. This sins't a big party school. People are here to work at their art. There isn't a lot of peer pressure to indulge in drugs and the policy enforecement is very strict.

Campus Housing: MY residence hall is an old Victorian Brownstone. IMost of the off campus housing is in similar buildings. It's more like living in a private home than campus housing. It's expensive, but close to everything you need. It ws easy to apply for housing.

Local Atmosphere: Boston is the center of history, culture and the arts. There are museums, great library facilites and everything you would want in the way of shopping and recreation. There are so many colleges, that most of the people I see on the streets are students.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The residence halls on right on city streets. There is private security and I feel pretty safe. But, you are in a big city, so you have to be awasre of the dangers that presents.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: We have a good social life, but everyone is here to work at their art and the policies in place are not hard to abide by. The staff and faculty knows everyone personally and it's more like a family environment. There aren't any unreasonable restrictions, but this is not really a party school.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: We are in the heart of the city. There is every kind of entertainment available, especially in music and the arts. Everything you want is here.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: As a student composer, I can't image being in a city or a school that has more opportunites to grow in my field. it's total immersion in music and performance.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Being in the heart of Boston, apartment rents are very high. The housing is very good quality, but very expensive.

College Sophomore

Athletics: There are no athletics teams at the school as it is a consevatory. There is a gym available fo r personal workouts. This isn't a sports school and we don't have a mascot.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: We share dining facilites with the Berklee School of Music. there are three new, modern dining areas and the food is pretty good. Thee are lots of fresh salad options as well as the usual pizza and burgers. It's a pretty good variety and the quality is quite good. You can purchase a meal plan at the beginning of the year/ There are a lot of good restaurants within walking distance in the city where you can use meal plan/flex dollars. There is every type of ethnic restaurant available as well as the usual chain places.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I received a half scholarship. It was based solely on my talent as judged by an audition and submission of a portfolio of my musical compositions.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: The academic classes all revolve around your life as an artist. In fact, my freshamn composition textbook was entitled "Writing For Your Life as an Artist." It sounds simple, but the standrds are very high and as artits, we are expected to become the storeytellers of our generation in regards to culture and the arts.
