3 College Senior

Campus Dining: Market is the best. 50% off if you live on campus. Can find pretty much any food you want anywhere. Conveniently located all around campus which is great if you have a break between classes.

3 College Student

Campus Dining: The food and dining option are widely diverse. There are many options.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: There are several places to eat and they each have a variety of different food. I personally like the dinning at Horne/Knapp, they will cook something special for you if you have a health need.

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There are a lot of options but are somewhat expensive

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There are a lot of places to choose from, there are a variety of healthy options. The only issue I have is with some of the food not being fresh. Some dining halls are better than others.

Due to the dining arrangements in the dorms, the Freshman 15 is no myth at Texas Tech. In the bottom of several of the dorms, a small convenience store called Sam's Place is open until late-night cravings are satisfied. With one swipe of your student ID, every chip, soda, or candy bar known to man is free to you because your parents have already paid for it as part of your mandatory meal plan. Sam's Place does have a sandwich bar and a soup bar, but the more popular items are fried. The Market, located on the first floor of the Stangel/Murdough complex, is an on-campus eatery that is a hotspot for freshmen to hang out between classes. The Market has all different types of cuisines to choose from (not to mention amazing Rice Krispies treats) and is where most freshmen go when they are looking for an actual meal. The Student Union has a wide variety of food to choose from, but for the dieter or even the casual healthy eater, campus dining is not the place for you. Campus dining is convenient, clean, and of good quality, but for the most part, after your freshman meal plan dwindles away, so do visits to the Market and Sam's Place.

Renovations to the Student Union Building itself also brought about renovations to the food choices. In the Student Union there is a wide selection of grab-and-go items, as well as a small food court featuring the ever-so-popular Chick-fil-A and Sbarros Pizza.

For students who want something in addition to their meal plan, or who no longer have a meal plan but want a pre-paid food budget, the Raider Card is for you. This card acts like a debit card and can be used at any of the restaurants on campus. For freshmen, it can also be used to start the laundry machines and to buy other products that can be found in the campus convenience stores (Sam's Place) and bookstores.
